it's NOT a promotion but a 'Save Offer'. That's why you deal with Retention Dept. It's their way to keep the customer. Getting your data doubled on 15gb plans and up is a Promotion.

That being said I must've been lucky cause I got mine updated to 20GB via Chat.

One thing everyone should think about. Before jumping on the 20GB deal, the 30GB plan will no longer be available after the end of this month. With devices using more and more data, you might want to think about the future before settling on only 20.

I have thought about it and going to the 30GB isn't worth it because we use no more than 5-6GB a month. I jumped on this because it's the same price and I would be stupid not too, even if I never use it.

At that point does it even save you money to go next?

Depends on your underlying plan. If on a 10GB or higher mobile share Next tends to win out over contract subsidy. Losing the $25/mo discount for 24 months on contract is $600, plus add a $40 activation fee unless you get it waived, then the phone contract price ($499) - total $1140 not counting sales tax. Next is $47.45/mo for 20 months or $39.55/mo for 24 months, total of $949 plus tax either way. Beats the contract price by $191 not counting tax.

If at 6GB mobile share or under the analysis flips. Losing the $15/mo discount for 24 months is only $360, bringing the phone total to $900 plus tax; beating Next by $50 or better if you get the activation fee waived. Sales tax tends to favor contract, but not in every state.

Thanks for this post!

Just called ATT. Got the nicest rep I've ever had. (Dialed 611, 0, 3).

Said I heard about the sprint offer for 20GB and wondered if there was anything they could do for my account to double my data from the 10. She said absolutely. Verified my phone, social etc. and it was done.

Very, very cool!

Thanks for the information OP.

Originally called 611 - 5 - 6 (posted somewhere on the first page) and got denied, but called 611 - 0 - 3 and they did it for me.

Wish I actually had use for all this data, but still glad to have it anyway.

Awesome Thread!

Called AT&T. Talked to Jeffry, who had to be the nicest rep ever. (Dialed 611, 0, 3).

Asked about doubling data on the 10gb plan and he put me on hold, came back and doubled it.

A side note, he said that regular representatives have access to data doubling only until the end of October, but that the retentions department has it access until December on the promotion. If I wanted to change it and go up to a higher plan after October to just call back and they can do it.

AT&T FTW!

Some of us REALLY don't like haggling for deals. I personally hate it. It makes me feel like I'm getting overcharged in the first place if I have to play whiny customer to get a better deal.

But you are being overcharged. Don't you want a better deal?

And no need to be whiny. Just be businesslike. Say you've got a better offer in hand and can they match it? There's nothing wrong with asking companies to bid for your business. It's what businesses, themselves, do all the time. It keeps the free-market system healthy and efficient. Be part of it.

Before calling, I pulled up Sprint and T-Mobile's webpages so I had my facts straight. Both were clearly offering better deals (either 20 GB for the same price or 10GB for a much lower price). You really can't lose walking into a negotiation like that.

Ugh I just switched this month to 30gb (15gb on the promo) for $30. In 7 years of iPhones and iPads, we've gone over 10gb between two people exactly once...last month. So I let myself get sucked into paying another $30 so as not to have to think about going over again.

I specifically asked at the time of the upgrade if a 20gb plan was in the works. I was told no.

$30 and a month later, here we are.

And I just checked my data usage for the month with 7 days left...we are at 7gb.

We don't need 30gb. We barely need 10. But 20 would be nice.

If you haven't already - call. People have posted that they've been downgraded to 10, doubled to 20 for free, and been given a credit for the 30GB plan they were on.

Wow...3 minute call.

Make sure you are in the Cancellations/Retentions Dept

Other reps can not help.

As for those who are saying the 30GB deal is going away at the end of October. The rep said that regular representatives have access to data doubling only until the end of October, but that the retentions department has it access until December on the data doubling promotion. If I wanted to change it and go up to a higher plan after October to just call back and they can do it.

thanks for the tip!

i wasnt on a 10 gig plan but i called anyway. I got my old family share 6 gig plan upgraded to a new family share 10 gig plan, doubled to 20 gig and saved almost $50 a month

Thanks for the thread! I just called and got the 20GB upgrade through retention. Unfortunately, the rep said she cannot actually add it to my plan until I receive my 6+, which looks like November. She said she would add a note to my file that I can call in later and have it added then. However, she did send me a Microcell free of charge which was unexpected as I had mentioned my signal wasn't quite as good since we moved to our new house.

I like AT&T. USA reps (not outsourced) who are bright, cheerful and a pleasure to talk to. They have raised their game in the customer service area in the past couple of years. OP, you rock! I may never come close to using 20GB but it sure is nice to not fear overage charges again, which I did after giving up my unlimited earlier this year.

I just successfully called in and was easily doubled to 20gb. I just switched from Verizon when the iPhone 6 came out and i was already on the 15 doubled to 30 plan. She originally asked me if i wanted to double to 60 but i knew she had to be mistake.....I didnt press my luck, all i wanted was the 20gb for 10gb plan.

Whole call took 5 minutes or so and the rep was super nice/helpful.

Just dialed 611,0,3 and got connected to the nicest lady. Mentioned the Sprint 20gb plan and asked if there was anything they could do to help. 2 minutes later I have 20GB and she offered me 50% off any iphone case $100 or less.

This is awesome. I just gave up my unlimited plan a few weeks ago to jump on the 30gb offer even though I felt it was a bit much for my two lines. 20gb seems the way to go. Going to call once they open to save a few bucks. Thanks for posting!

Worked to perfection! Waited on phone for 1 minute to get an AT&T retention agent. I asked nicely about matching the Sprint offer and he said they had a a promotion for 20 GB for same $100 price. The agent was super nice. I said great!

All done in 4 minutes!

Thanks OP!

10G to 20G

Thanks for the awesome information OP!! :)

I just called and got 20g for the price of 10g. Customer rep was very friendly and helpful!!

So, I'm trying to not strike out a 3rd time (see previous posts). When I call 611, and press 0, there is no option to press 3. It will connect me to a CS specialist. If I call and press 3, that too brings me to a CS specialist. How do I get to the retention dept? Do I have to specifically ask to speak to someone in that dept?

Maybe we all have different menu trees. For me, after I call 611 I press five to get to the account menu and then listen to the choices. From that menu, option five is "cancel your account". So for me it is 611, 5,5. I would just play with it and listen to the choices as opposed to trying to follow a specific sequence posted by another user.

I went through online chat. Yes, they are doubling the 10GB & 15GB plans but I have the 2GB plan and they doubled me to 4GB for free!
