I ordered Space Gray and Silver because I couldn't decide.

Even though I'm month to month, and I chose to pay the phone(s) in full, why does AT&T require phone number? I'm used to just swapping out the SIM card from current iPhone to new phone. I've had problems in the past where I lost VM's and all recently dialed numbers, etc when I didn't swap SIM cards.

Secondly, if I open the first phone and like it, and willing to let friend buy the other one, do we need to contact AT&T to unlock the phone?
 
I think someone mentioned this a while back but did anyone else who got the order sent via Fedex from Texas who has a Fedex account not get a Fedex Alert? The address looks right in the ATT system but I never got the Fedex notification. The tracking looks normal.

ATT doesn’t send the “Shipping Information” for the package until Thursday which means FedEx doesn’t technically “receive” it until such time. Making it impossible to track via the FedEx Delivery Manager.

All the while we have found out that they have been shipped out on Sunday.

Does UPS give you a tracking map? I think that's what I like about FedEx better. More detailed/useful information and I think you can even locate individual trucks on their routes.
Really? I never tried this feature before. It would be so cool to see the truck getting closer and closer to me tomorrow...

I didn’t get a fedex alert until I woke up this morning. This morning at 2am, it wasn’t on my fedex manager yet. On fedex manager, I can see my address and ref number.
 
After failing on Apple app/site I ordered 256GB SG 10/27 at 3:55:55 on ATT est ship 11/2-11/10

Got the "we have your order" email from ATT shortly after. No Text.
Was In Progress until early hours of 11/1. Changed to Preparing to ship with Est ship 11/2-11/10

Shipped order email with FedEx tracking # arrived at 5:09 AM today. Shipped today Standard Overnight from Fort Worth, TX for 11/3 delivery. Shipment shows up in my Fedex Delivery Manager.
As of 7:06am CT it's in Indianapolis making its way to MN.:)

This must be why there is so much inconsistency about the ATT order status system. I guess they flag certain orders as "preparing for shipment" but once it comes time to assign individual packages (already en route to a distribution center) to specific customers, they may even do so for those whose order was still "in progress." In my case, I had an 11/02-/11/10 shipping window (preparing to ship since Sunday) but my phone is coming tomorrow.

I have to say it really looks like ATT is coming through this year, lots of us getting our phones earlier than expected. And I ordered at 4 pm EST on the 27th!

I was wondering this too. Maybe they want to give priority to their own customers? What's really absurd is that you can't even pre-order a phone from Apple without choosing your carrier and using your number. If you wanted to buy an iPhone for yourself and one as a gift for someone else, you can't.
 
I ordered 2 phones, I had 2 pending charges of 100 dollars in my bank account... they have now gone away and the funds have been released... wtf happened??? both are still preparing to ship with Nov 3rd delivery dates.
You are most likely screwed! Thats exactly what happened to mine. I was finally told I had to go a local store and prove my ID. I was told then, after another hour of calls there, that there was not way I was getting a phone, I would have to reorder and that they would not be getting ANY phones to sell in the stores for a while. I asked, "just this ATT store?" she said no ATT store would have phones in the stores for a while!

I am so salty at this point. 256 silver order at 606am eastern Friday and nothing. Not shipped or anything and I see all these people with orders shipped and they ordered after me what the f!? I don’t get it

6:06am EST?? I ordered mine at 3:31am EST (256gb space grey) and am still in the "Preparing to Ship" status. I think there are just too many hidden factors that we don't know about that cause this...just gotta hope you get lucky and a phone shows up tomorrow LOL.

I think that AT&T is overwhelmed with the volume and system just don't update in realtime and we're all crazy impatient. At least this is the case for me! I should have gotten myself out of bed at 3am and ordered instead of having a good night's sleep! :D

I tried chatting w/ the on-line reps yesterday and they didn't tell me anything other than 11/2-11/10. But one did use "awesomesauce" which was nice.

I used the FedEx deliver manager to track some other orders. It does have a map but it only shows progress from hub to hub, NOT the truck as it's driving around. That's probably for diver safety.

I know I ordered silver which definitely had more stock though.
 
Not sure how I could've ordered any earlier. I set an alarm for 2:50am and waited for the att.com countdown page to finish...then it went to a "you are in line, this page will refresh when we're ready to take your order" screen and as soon as it let me in I ordered. So clearly orders are not being shipped in the order that they were received.

It seems a good number of people got the FedEx Alert already though. I order from ATT all the time so I don't think there can be an address mismatch but it is a little disconcerting. I do see the "Shipping Information Sent to FedEx" line was recently this morning so maybe I'll still get it.
 
I smoothly purchased a 256 GB space gray with transaction finalized 15 mins after preorders started. Mine is arriving via UPS, and I also received an UPS My Choice expected delivery email earlier this morning. I only ever received the “good to go” email immediately after the transaction, and the shipped email this morning at 6:44am. Never received text notifications from ATT, but always saw an 11/3 delivery date.

Edited to add that I live in Houston.

would have preferred a UPS delivery in lieu of fedex.... now im worried on what to do since i wont be at home.... If we enact vacation hold today, will it be effective by tomorrow AND where will the phone end up for pickup or will have to wait until the vacation date is expired.. SMH
