Is there a way to upgrade another line on my plan using my apple ID on the Apple Store app on my iPhone? I’m not able to edit the Wireless Number on the Carrier Account screen in the app (it’s shaded out - defaults to my wireless number, but Billing Zip Code and Last 4 of SS# are editable).

I can do it via the app on my iPad, but none of the carrier account info is pre-filled, so I have to enter all three pieces of info manually, which takes time. I’m just trying to figure out the fastest way to preorder the X :)

For the iPhone 8 preorders att started taking orders at 2:56am est. earlier than any other method. Plus I would get onto att website early. They have a line type system. And they put people in a queue.
What time do you recommend?

I bought my 7 through the Apple app and picked it up at the Apple store, I did ATT Next Every Year. I don't see that option on the App store. You can bt through their own financing not a carriers. What happens now? I can only buy it through ATT?

You get the option for next every year once you start the checkout process

Oo ok because i tried the early preorder and checked my eligibility but it said i was not enrolled yet. So I don't think ill be able to through them

Not enrolled sounds like you choose the IUP. Do a trial run using the 8 and choose the att installment plan and you’ll see the option to choose between next and next every year

I think we discussed this earlier, and perhaps buried somewhere in this thread, but I checked on my current bill, and I've got about $75 to go in terms of paying off my 6s; is this something that should be paid off before pre-ordering the X (and trading in the 6s)? Thanks for your input!

Update: talking with folks over at AT&T, it sounds like I'll end up with a monthly cost of just about the same, and probably $4 less than what I have now (6s, 64 GB) on the 30-month AT&T Next plan. The up-front cost of the X would be between $150--200 based on whether or not I turn in my 6s (to possibly pay off the rest of the phone). Checking gazelle, I could get up to $185 for it, but I wonder how much that will drop once the X comes out.

I’m ok with it. Don’t plan on leaving att any time soon. My current 7+ has the intel modem and it’s fine by me

same and same but it doesn't bother you at all for $999+ you have a different manufacturer modem from the previous status quo of Qualcomm only up until the 7 and since OG which wasn't Qualcomm?

asking not preaching :D

7+ I didn't really realize and there wasn't any other 7+ available at the time, I was lucky to get an AT&T model period.

But second go round it just feels like im rewarding the wrong way they go about things

I dunno if its enough to be a dealbreaker to wait for SIM free or borrow a friends' Verizon account or whatever but

as I understand with software, the modems RF and performance is on parity but you'll always hear varying things

like MLC/TLC flash days, on 6 and still continues likely on small storage GB vs bigger storage.

i chatted with a rep and he said yes they are bringing the BOGO deal. i just wanted to see if anyone else knows about it!
Can’t always trust the reps. One rep said preorders started 12am eastern standard time and 3am pacific standard time. And even double checked it with her supervisor.

Not a huge issue for me. I have been with ATT since the iPhone 3G. There might be some advantages to the Qualcomm modem. But oh well. I won’t see them.

ah so you had an AT&T model 7 then with Intel as well and no problems?

Does this mean you're waiting for sim free is available down the road to use on att?

No. I bought an 8 plus. Have no interest in the X. Face ID means nothing to me, and bezeless is great but not a big deal. Wireless charging and Apple pay mean much more to me.

Spending a grand on a phone is ridiculous. If this is the new norm, I’ll look elsewhere.

Can somebody clarify the one-time passcode verification that happens when filling out the carrier info with Apple? (Phone#, zip, last 4 social). It sends me a text with a code that I then enter on the iPad or Mac. I thought it might be the 2 step verification (which I turned off). Not sure.

so is AT&T bringing the BOGO deal with iPhone X?

The reps I've chatted with online and in the store aren't sure, but the mechanism for the 8 was (and is) buy an iPhone 8, get $700 in credits, paid out over two years, to apply to another NEW line, as long as you have an unlimited plan AND DirecTV.

So, if you bought an iPhone 8 and another iPhone 8 with a new line, and paid the $700 for the second phone on installments, it would be free. If you bought an iPhone 8 with more memory or an iPhone 8 Plus, you'd end up paying the difference. So, if the same holds, you'd get $700 credit towards an iPhone X. Or in my case, I'd buy an iPhone X and get an 8 free. By giving you the $700 over two years, they are ensuring you remain with them and DirecTV for that time.
