When using the Apple Store app can I order two phones, one on my primary account number (my phone - which I believe is the option to "Replace this phone") and one for my wife using the option "buy this phone on another line"? Or do I have to order one on my phone and use the app on my wife's phone also? Both on Next plans.

Also curious about this too. Need to pre-order for myself and my wife. For now I am planning to have the app store open on both our phones and doing them back to back. But this could mean one of us gets it and the other waits....

I would do mine first (since she doesn't care about tech as much as I do)...but I would still feel bad as we have both been waiting a while to upgrade.

Thanks

No it's the Apple Store app (I know this thread is for ATT site, but my carrier is ATT)
It checks with ATT, and on anything but the iPhone it send me a code (or did, I need to check this again and try a few things)

Anyway, I'm just going to use the iPhone, It's pretty easy (good to have a backup plan though).

I did a test run and ordered an iPhone 8 to prepare for the X, and it asked for all that att info on the apple store app. Is there anyway to take it off. That sending a code to my phone sucks and will slow me down. What if with all the traffic Att doesn't send me the code? Can I turn it off?

The OS X Apple Store 'one-time' code your probably stuck with. It's fast if you have the message app open on the phone. The iPhone Apple Store app doesn't send to itself obviously, so you save that step. Also, there's autofill with the carrier info (phone, zip, social), which saves you another step. (problem I'm having is that the autofill on the iPhone Carrier info check has the wrong zip, and I can't seems to stop, or reset it)

There's probably solutions to these, but I haven't gotten there. There's so much handshaking, it gets a little complicated.

I’m running into a similar situation. Posted this on Apple and AT&T preorder threads and no responses yet:

Is there a way to upgrade another line on my plan using my apple ID on the Apple Store app on my iPhone? I’m not able to edit the Wireless Number on the Carrier Account screen in the app (it’s shaded out - defaults to my wireless number, but Billing Zip Code and Last 4 of SS# are editable).

I can do it via the app on my iPad, but none of the carrier account info is pre-filled, so I have to enter all three pieces of info manually, which takes time. I’m just trying to figure out the fastest way to preorder the X.

It'll have to be done from the phone you want to upgrade if you want the information pre filled

I'm having a problem with that. It autofills the wrong zip, if I enter the correct zip, it reverts back to the old zip (that's not in any account). Working on it.....

Ah, that makes sense. My line is not eligible since I upgraded last September iPhone 7 AT&T NEXT plan. I’m going to use my wife’s or one of my kid’s lines to upgrade, swap SIM cards and hand down my iPhone 7.

I’ll just use my iPad and manually enter the carrier info.

Why aren’t you eligible? After 12 months on the Next plan you can upgrade. You do have to turn in your phone or pay the balance. I think of it as a lease. I want a new phone every year.

Well, I can make my line eligible, but want to pass my phone down to another family member, so don’t want to turn it in. I will continue making NEXT payments on my line and use another line to upgrade to iPhone X.

Yup! spoke to att and they said they couldn’t take away all the info we had to put in for att eligibility. I told her that I was worried that her system would crash and I wouldn’t get the PIN number texted to me. She laughed and said that when they had the iPhone 8 on sale orders where higher than mentioned in the media and they had no problems. The she says look I just sent you a text with the number to Apple just incase you need it. It was instant. I hope it doesn’t slow me down where it pushes back my delivery date. She then proceeded to check to see if I was eligible for upgrade and she said I was good to go. I had already checked many times. Just be on the safe side.

Sounds good!

Does anyone know how the Next plan's trade-in process works with pre-orders? Do we enter the countdown/queue site just like everyone else, but there'll be an option to trade-in our current phone when we try to order? And then once we place the order for the X, the X's box will have a prepaid label inside? Not sure if there's a way to indicate that we want to trade in a phone before the pre-order. Thanks!

I was chatting with someone from AT&T yesterday, and it seemed like the best approach was to pay off the remainder of your current phone and just pre-order without a trade in. They mentioned a buy-back program where you could get up to $200 for your current phone if it's in good enough condition. That's what I'll be doing; of course, my pay off amount was only $75 (for a 6s) which I imagine isn't the case for everyone.

That’s cool, but I still owe half 400ish. Rather just give it back.

need some help.

there's 2 options when i add the phone via the apple store app when i get far enough.

the first is "replace this phone on my att account"

and the second is "buy a new phone on an existing wireless account account"

i plan on buying the phone outright but i still have a balance from my current iphone 7.

the first option has my information pre loaded and seems quite a bit faster compared to the other one.

**if i'm buying outright which one do i have to select?

even though i have a balance it doesn't stop me from adding an iphone 8 to cart either way. will either of these options or even my balance give me a hiccup?

(and if you're wondering why i don't just pay it off, my job pays for my phone and phone bill and it's just easier for me to keep track of leaving it the way it is and selling my iphone 7 on my own to put towards the full purchase of the X)

Quick question hopefully someone has the answer to.

Currently have a Galaxy S7 Edge with ATT NEXT. I am eligible for upgrade and trade in through AT&T. Do I have to order the X through AT&T which I know they will send me phone and then send box to send other phone back in or can I order through Apple and then go to AT&T store and tell them I ordered through Apple and I want to send other phone in?

I believe if you preorder through Apple then you have to send the phone to Apple. I’m contemplating what to do because I’ve heard of people running into problems when preordering through Apple, regarding the condition of their phone according to Apple. I have a buddy that previously preordered through Apple and his phone got lost and he had to pay a large amount out of pocket.

You still send it back to att regardless of where you purchase the phone from.

That is what I have heard because I bought Galaxy through ATT. Really wondering if I can order through Apple site or if it has to be through ATT.

Apologies if it’s been covered, but I’ve had trouble finding an answer to this question. I went thru the steps on the apple app to order an x. It will not allow me the option to order it thru next 30. Just next 12 or 24. Will I have to order thru att to do next 30 or will it be an option on the apple app come pre order day? Thanks in advance

Yes you can order through Apple site. Once you receive the new device, just box up the old one and send it in. If the new one doesn’t come with a shipping label, you can request one thru att chat

I'm struggling to find any answers to this anywhere. If anyone knows please let me know.

I need to order two phones, same color/spec, same AT&T account. One is replacing my phone, the other my daughter's. I know I can "replace this phone" with the app store app and order mine but my daughter is a) on a family shared apple account ie. not the primary apple account and b) is a 2nd line on my AT&T account. So I don't know if I should be trying to place the order on her phone, or use the "buy a new phone on existing account" option. So confusing!

Also, when upgrading with AT&T in the App Store App, does it still require a valid credit card to pay the tax?

Anyone know?

I have ATT and will be doing the Next installment plan like I have for years. It is under my mothers name (I am the only line on the acct and an authorized user as well) and address. If I order through the Apple Store app I would be using my card and my address. Would this be an issue? Would I need to change my ATT address just for a day or two until it ships?

So apple shipping and billing info versus att shipping and billing info....

Wondering about what combination of this options might get me the fastest shipping. I currently have ATT and I'm ready for an upgrade. I will preorder the X.

When purchasing through the Apple Installment program (I tested on a new 8) it says that an "iPhone has been reserved" right away, then I have to wait for them to reach ATT and send me some code or approval to finish the order. My question is, during this wait, I am losing the possibility of a day 1 X?

How does the process differ from ATT installment plan? I'm already approved for an upgrade would it be faster?

I can also potentially buy the T-Mobile unlocked version straight away and that seems like would be faster but not ideal.

Anyone wondering the same or has experience on this

Can't answer the first but in my weeks of researching and reading, I believe if you don't pay in full whatever card you order with will be charged tax and the first months fee. Not positive but that's my consensus. So definitely needs to be an active card for sure.
