I saw order numbers whose first four digits were as low as 1012, and they seemed to be from orders placed earlier than mine.
Talking with a rep now. They say my NEXT plan will start renewing once it's activated, so my whole every 12 months plan is being ********* over
First four (before the dash) are random, the second string is the numerical order.
And you believe them? Ha. I can see him/her laughing after the got off the call.
not necessarily true. I placed my first order at 3:17am when att website went up. Got 2 confirmation emails and congratulations text. was given a 9/17-9/18 ship date. and now it shows processing.
Let's not forget that there are literally 18 variations on the phone.
3 storage sizes * 3 colors * 2 screen sizes.
That means there are 18 different lines you're waiting in, first come first serve.
So it's not very useful to compare order times or numerical order of order numbers unless you both ordered the same exact configuration.

UPDATE:
Called ATT and they called the DMDR people who confirmed that the 6 (128,sg) on "Backorder" will come on 9/19 as originally indicated. Even put a note in my file and an entry to have someone call me (!) on the 20th to confirm. We'll see...

I highly recommend not calling AT&T customer care today. Just got off the phone today after speaking with 2 reps and a supervisor. Each telling me different things. I'm going with what the supervisor told me. Call tomorrow when the "normal" reps are in

No, it's not. You just make however many payments you need to hit 12 installments in one lump sum and you're good. Or just pay off the phone entirely.

They do have a fairly new program that allows you to pay off the remaining payments needed to upgrade early. Once you have made 2 payments this is an option.
So when next year comes and you have made 11 payments you could go ahead and pay the 12th payment early and qualify to upgrade and trade in the old phone.
So if you pre-ordered the phone in store but cancel it they will ship it to a local AT&T store?

AT&T didn't waste any time getting the money!
It says that for me as well on the premier order status page. But when I log into my at&t account itself, under my orders, it says preparing for shipment with a ship date of 9/17-9/18. So might want to check that if you can.
