Here's my story...
Could not order until afternoon on 09/12 based on issues with my phone eligibility. Got all that straitened out and went to store and pre-ordered an iPhone 6/64 GB/Space Grey at around 1 PM CST. Person in store told me for sure I'll still get it on 09/19. Came home to see the confirmation email saying 10/13 - 10/31.
Called AT&T on 09/13 and they said the regular iPhone 6/128 GB/Silver or Gold are still shipping (lasted updated that day at 0500) on 09/19. So probably prematurely I canceled the first order (probably should have just kept it I guess). Then I ran into the phone line upgrade eligibility issue that people get when they cancel an order and cannot place a new order. AT&T rep said it could take up to 24 hours or even longer to update.
So I spoke to a AT&T lady online chat because I didn't want to wait over a day to order and she suggested that I could go ahead and pre-order an iphone 6 128 GB Silver now and pay full price ($849). Then once I get it take it in store (don't activate it), have them return it and refund me the entire price then put that phone on a 2 year contract and I'll just pay the contract price of $399. So I did that yesterday afternoon so I can go ahead and get into the queue.
Here is what my status shows:
Status: Preparing to Ship Shipping Date: 09/23 - 10/02

Now, going from my 4 to my 5s, I was not as patient because the 4 was absolutely on it's last legs and slower than slow! Thankful that Best Buy messed up and allowed me to pre order it and pick it up on launch day
That's the thing.. my iPhone 5 only has 130mb left (16GB). I need this new phone for the space lol
Folks I wouldn't worry too much about the 'backorder' status at this moment because I believe AT&T is working to get things straight between their orders and apples supply numbers.

I have still been following this forum in the meantime and since folks started claiming status changes to backordered I thought I'd check my status again. Sure enough, iphone 1 changed to backordered, iphone 2 changed to in progress, iphone 3 changed to backordered. So I've again been periodically checking this forum for the past several hours and just checked my status again. Now iphone 1 is still showing backordered, iphone 2 is showing in progress and iphone 3 is showing preparing to ship.
Make of it what you want but I really think we won't see good data until mon-tues.
Happy camping in the meantime.

Fwiw I have lurked for a looooooong time but let me tell you, I have reaaally broad tastes and entering your username and password on website after website after website gets SO irritating. Not to mention waiting for the confirmation emails of which good ole att likes to decide which you want and which you don't. Grrr! Now that you have my life story...

The reason everyones status is changing to pending or processing is because they are creating the tracking numbers and will probably start shipping them later on tonight or tomorrow. Dont worry if you had 9/19 delivery date you will still get them on friday. Also if you had your date bumped up that is even better. you are at the step where people who had a 9/19 date was at earlier today and when you are about to get a tracking number for your phone it will be the same process thats going on now.
Like some others, my phone originally had a shipping date of 9/17-9/18 and said "Your iPhone 6 will be delivered on September 19"
Today the status changed to

Item Status: Processing
And the dates have disappeared

I really couldn't even imagine what that would be like lol. Must be amazing in so many ways though. With that said if your not already there - id venture pretty low to non existent.

I hope so man. I had a shipment date of 10/13-10/22 with "preparing to ship". Just logged in again and it says back-ordered. Maybe it's updating and there's a small chance we could get bumped up with all the cancellations and changes going on.
I had a hunch about not ordering through ATT but the apple site was a total mess and ATT was the first to go through.
I'm sure we'll get some update sometime next week. I don't care about not getting in on launch date (i6 + 128gigs). But I do wish we had at least an accurate and concrete ship date.
Well the rep said there is no way I would get it on release day, as their estimates are now "accurate." I will just go into the AT&T store on Friday morning instead.
Got the same news- ordered iph6 + at 11:45a on 9/11, received confirmation email 10 minutes late. scheduled to ship 10/2-13 now it ready 10/13-22.
On the positive side, we can look forward to looking cool like ZaCH with our iPhone 6 plus-

I gotta be honest, this is the one caveat to it all lol. How funny it's gonna look with a block next to your head. Atleast the mic will be closer to your mouth lol. I'm sure many of us have imagined and considered this very picture persay. Hopefully we will adjust. The pro outweighs the con IMO.
Ordered 128GB 6+ Gold at 11:50pm PST on 9/11, originally in the 10/2-10/13 delivery window. Just checked my order status and it has also changed to backordered with no dates....I'm going to take it as a good sign! Seems a lot of people who got their orders in early have switched to backordered.

My Gold 64+ has changed:
Confirmation email said 21-28 Business Days
Yesterday shipping estimate changed to Nov 9th - 27th
This morning changed to Oct 13th - 22nd
Seems like a lot of 6+ phones have switched to this October date
Got mine in at 11:55pm PST and I was in the 10/31-11/11 window until today, now I am in the 10/2 - 10/13 window. I am happy to have been bumped up, but there are several folks who ordered after me who originally were in earlier windows. Grr.. Ordered 6+ 64gb gold.

Just checked UPS My Choice (love it!!) and my 6 is set for delivery on Friday 9/19. Coming from Memphis, TN. AT&T site still shows processing for shipment.

Has anyone on here called the AT&T Automated Order Status Phone Line at 877.782.8870? Online my order says "Preparing to Ship" with a ship date of 10/2 to 10/13. I call the number and it just tells me by phone is on Backorder

How does a trade in work when u ordered online? Are u forced to pick it up at the store and bring your old phone or something?
