I am in the exact same boat as you. When I called the automated order status line a few mins ago it said my status was back ordered.
FWIW (in case we have some staticians is data analysts etc) my order number is 1114 and it went thru at about 740 EST.
Yeah, my online status just says backordered. Nothing about a new date. I started off as 10/13-10/22.
Almost 100% positive that each iPhone will ship separately. Most phones are shipping between 1.2 and 1.3ibs.
It changed this morning Pacific time, from shipping 9/23-10/2, to Item Processing. It still says the same thing.
I ordered my 64GB iPhone 6 in silver yesterday and it already says "preparing for shipment" but the shipping dates are still 9/23-10/2. I'm kinda confused by that.
I gotta tell ya, att csrs must hate their lives at the moment. Tearing their hair out I'm sure. They all work on commission and the waves of endless phone calls coming in due to online orders are making them jack and shut. Take it up with your superiors IMO

When I first ordered my 6+ it said 7-10 days on the att page after I hit order. Then I got an email a few hours later saying it would ship in 14-21 days. Then once it processed it said my shoot date was Nov 9th-Nov 27th. Now it says Oct 2- 12th. I'm hoping it keeps getting bumped sooner!

Order status on att.com showed it was being processed until just a little bit ago today. Now says preparing to ship but says it will ship 10/13-10/31. I chatted with a live agent. She asked where I was seeing the status and said she shows it will arrive 9/19 on her end. I'm not sure what to believe but am hoping many of us are seeing the regular "business rule" shipping dates that they would normally have. Att probably has special shipping rules for this launch and the systems are confused as they're not the normal...thus, all of the jumping around of what we see on our order statuses. At least, that's what I hope. I'll cling to the fact that the chat agent says she sees 9/19 on her end :/

I could be completely wrong, and if so, oh well. Past history on this forum, and other forums, have proven that backordered might actually mean you get your phone on launch date.
How? Because, evidently, backordered doesn't mean backordered in the true sense of the word when it comes to AT&T preorders, and if you don't understand how that could be true of AT&T, you haven't been with AT&T that long.
No one can even say. For example I ordered before you and I have a later date. It's literally pointless to do anything but speculate and speculate very loosely.
On my order status, its still saying "Pending Comfirmation". any ideas way....?
It's still Apples supply no matter who gets them. It would actually make MORE sense for apple to share them around.
That being said I would all but stake my life that they have some, perhaps haven't made it I to their hands yet however. Things will move fast as the week progresses.
And "limited supply" for apple is a few million units
I ordered at 4:28 am est as it took me and hour and a half to get thru ATTs website. iPhone 6 plus 64GB Gold thru next. Orig had date of Oct31-Nov11 but today it changed to Oct13-Oct22. I hope that time gets even better because I dont get how the people that ordered within a few hours of going live are getting dates that far back. Its crazy. This is my 4th iPhone but my first time pre ordering, have the dates drastically changed in the past?

Im okay with either of these days now, considering yesterday the 16 was 10/17 and my 64 gig was 11/14
Guess as they continue to organize everything they are getting things back to business. Will see if I get them now anything close to the dates provided...

Ever think it may not be intentional persay? I'll cite my taxes again. I filed the day they went live yet got them back months and months after people who had filed them weeks after me.
Why?
An error in their system that in short, moved me to the back of the list and had to re process me. Perhaps att systems were scheduled to come up at 301 and the people who got in sooner submitted their orders but they were resubmitted after 3 and ended up further down the list or being pre open persay caused an error?
Purely speculative but what I'm getting at is that if this was the case, I can all but gaurantee you it isn't because att is punishing people.

This happened to me too the only exception is that my phone is gold. Same model and size.

Love your positive attitude. Pre-ordered 16 and 64 GB phones and got one tracking number earlier, I assume for the one listed on AT&T as pending shipment while the other is still backordered (status on both orders changed before noon today).
