We pay (well not me anymore actually) at least 80 sumthn' dollars for a line with data, We will probably have to pay about $40 more for tethering, and if new macs come out with 3g connectivity that will be another $40 most likely, By the time AT&T is finished with us we will have like a $300 bill ! Yes I can add, I just totaled in the mystery costs that AT&T always surprises people with lol. Not to mention, you see what they are doing with Slingbox app. something that they really should have no control over, I hope no one really believes this is where it will stop. Making money is one thing, legal robbery is another lol.

very bad move on at&t's part..as someone mentioned before, sling media will miss out on a huge opportunity because of this..ive been considering a slingbox for a while just based on how cool it was..i couldnt quite get myself to justify the cost for how much id use..this is big for someone like me who wouldve bought a slingbox instantly if at&t allowed it to work on 3G

think about people who ride the subway or take the bus to work every morning? this would be an AMAZING addition ..BUT, lack of 3G streaming kills the idea

i would definitely jailbreak/hack or do whatever i need to do to get it working over 3G..otherwise WTF am i paying 30 bucks a month for??

WiFi

I have been giving AT & T a break by leaving my WiFi on, that ends now! I am going to get my monies worth.

I can't wait for Iphone with Verizon!!!

As soon is the iphone is offered at Verizon, I am switching!!! I bet you verizon will not have a problem supporting sling on their network!!!

Exaaactly . . It is sad when greed ruins a great thing, especially when it's the hard work and passion of others.

when the hell will we be allowed to use iphone on other networks? It's win win for the consumer. Win because we get to chose our network and win because the data-hungry iphones are distributed across different networks.

By the time Apple is able to sell the iPhone on Verizon's network, they'll have the next generation network up and running in many major cities. So, yes, I think at that time, Verizon would probably support Sling. However, putting Verizon in AT&T situation today, I doubt they would allow streaming over 3G.

+1!

I switched from Verizon to AT&T for the iPhone and I am regretting it. The terrible service, botchy 3g areas and their idea of unlimited data is getting on my nerves. I hope Apple takes the iPhone away and goes with a carrier that can handle it. It's like we gave the keys to a Ferrari to a person who only rode bicycles in their life.

Don't Get Mad, Get Even: Complain @ www.fcc.gov

Wish each of the 133 (and counting) folks that commented on AT&T's Slingbox app '3G only' position would file an online or letter complaint to the FCC. More complaints = more attention.

The FCC's website complaint category wasn't obvious for this subject. I ended up selecting Service and used the text box to decry AT&T's consumer-hostile and inconsistent practice (3G streaming OK, just not for iPhone Slingbox app).

Have fun.

It's available, downloading now.

3.4 MB

Can you provide a direct link to the app? I'm still not able to see it. I can find Sling Media as a Developer, but when I click the link there are no apps listed.

UPDATE: Found it. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=309280605&mt=8

"Data Plan for iPhone 3G includes unlimited* data in the U.S. Access rich HTML email and desktop-level web browsing, as well as Visual Voicemail to listen to voicemail messages in any order you choose."

*Unlimited data = unlimited restrictions on data usage with limited bandwidth

That's the first forum comment to make me laugh out loud in a while. :D

Why? Why download that broken App? Not having 3G/Edge support makes it worthless.

3 reasons, one I am a tech junkie I can't help myself, 2 in the hopes that AT & T feels the heat and allows it to run and 3G and III I jailbreak the phone and make it work on 3G anyway.

When you try to stream over 3G, it says it's not supported at this time.

The way I use my slingboxes (on a mobile device at least), I usually have wi-fi available.

Technically what Slingbox could do, would be to just have their SlingBox generate a web page that the customer could log into, and then push the video using standard internet protocols to Apple's QuickTime plugin.

It would be difficult for AT&T to prevent you from viewing a web page in Safari...

Uh... they could just block that site from being accessible thru their network.

Additionally, you can't program streaming video interface with channel changes, pause, play , rewind ETC into a quicktime website.

no problem, if i want to use slingplayer, i guess i can take the sim out of my iphone and put it into my blackjack (which has the sling software on it) and use it over 3g that way

This post is a good poster for the over-the-line whining on this thread, rivaling the I PAID $600 FOR MY IPHONE AND THEY DROPPED THE PRICE! crowd.

You pay $80 for a line with data, then "about" $40 more (it's $30 for everybody who can do it now) for tethering and about $40 (nobody knows) for some mythical MacBook that doesn't exist yet. Stopping at this insanity, you're out $160, which isn't even close to the $300 rant. I already pointed out that you're $30 off for tethering, and as I said nobody knows about this MacBook with built-in 3G that doesn't exist.

OK, let's also examine another thing. You're going to have a MacBook and an iPhone, which you will use to tether for a network connection. Then you're going to buy a new computer and ALSO pay for another 3G connection? You're going to pay for two 3G connections (built-in on the notebook that doesn't exist and iPhone tethering) on one computer. Really? Seriously?

Most likely if you want to do this, you'll be out $140. The iPhone stuff actually runs $70 plus taxes, which are $5 for me. But we'll call it $80. The 3G plans you can get with an add-on card or dongle cost $60. That's $140, not $300.

Lastly, you are really going to call it legal robbery? What's next, dry water?

Jees !!! £18 in UK. Now...I had hope that maybe Slingplayer will be available in UK on 3G. Its seems is only one version available and that is in favor for O2. But having say that I am not sure if O2 had problem with streaming that app over 3G.
The other thing is that they say in description that this is wi-fi only AT THIS TIME, which means that they will change that soon or later.
For guys in US...you good in suing so you should do that with AT&T...good luck:D
