Is anyone still under the impression that all these carriers aren't practicing collusion for pricing of these plans?

As someone who does not use a lot of data, I love this. The price of 3-5gb plans actually make sense!

Why is not available yet , hopefully 2 lines is cheaper than the one with directv we have now

So really $220 for 4 lines. So logically it should be $55/line, but a single line forces you to pay $100/month. So what would the cost be for just two lines? These plans are a joke.

Logistically, the 25 GB plan is a better deal. You end up paying $160 for 4 lines, get 25GB to share before getting slowed down by stream saver, or you could disable stream saver and continue on with overage at your discretion. Plus, rollover data, so I would imagine most months would be > 25GB.

I was thinking the same thing, but only for 3 phones. It's $170 ($110 plus $20 per line) before discounts. You get 25Gb at high speeds, then it throttles down but is unlimited. Plus there's rollover added to your high speed allowance. It was marketed more as an end to overage charges than an unlimited plan, but it fundamentally is this same unlimited with eventual throttle.

Under this new unlimited plan, that will now cost $180 (for 3 phones, same as 4) and you get throttled (maybe) at 22Gb.

Both plans have stream saver (which can be turned off whenever and I see as a good thing, akin to Netflix's data quality options) and seemingly the same other bells and whistles. (text, Mex/Can, etc.)

If you have 15Gb plans or below, or have 4 phones, the new plan probably looks good.

Am I missing anything?

If this is going to be anything like the current unlimited plan but without direct tv, this is what it would look like for my family compared to what we currently have..

we have 5 lines and 2 tablets. 25% corp discount

Current plan on the left (25gb shared data) , unlimited plan on the right:

the $12.50 at the bottom there is because we incurred some overage charges in the last 2 billing cycles... so the plan is really 170

Smoke and mirrors. I'm on ATT, and there are no longer overage fees. They simply slow data the same as they do on unlimited. Hence, there is no "unlimited" plan. . they're just adding an expensive 22Gb plan.

It took 5 pages of comments before someone pointed this out. AT&T has already had unlimited for months. But they marketed as an end to overages. This is the same thing. This change is just tweaking it a bit for when and if they throttle and exactly how many phones you have. (good for 4, bad for 3)

Cell phone providers absolutely screw customers who aren't part of large family plans.

It's complete anti-consumer nonsense -- especially since these plans don't share data buckets.

There's probably an argument that there's a cost to them "per account" and a 4 person account is cheaper than 4 single accounts. But it's likely minimal.

This kind of pattern isn't uncommon in lots of things. Think health insurance. Single person vs 4 person family plan. At least with my health insurance, a 4 person (or more) family is waaay less than 4 times a single person plan, and you can really argue that people are each their own bucket of medical needs.

Such is life. It's logical that society tries to adjust for the fact that kids are expensive and generally don't make their own money for stuff.

Again this topic. I think you have a long road ahead of pressuring your providers. Just to give you some perspective, in Europe, I have an "unlimited plan" for around 18$, and the speed of data is throttled to 2Mb/s after using 100GB. Additionally, I have wifi and LTE calling included. I Have a 250Mb/s connection at home (big city) for 15$ with no data cap. You guys are waaaay behind the whole world. It's sad that US is like a third world country of mobile and wired data connections.
Remind me again what you pay for gas? And taxes?

Unlimited should include tethering as well, otherwise it is NOT unlimited. AT&T's new plans appear to include ZERO tethering. FAIL.

I think this would effectively kill their tablet service market and other non-phone mobile services. It could also spell the death of cell-enabled tablets and such, which might impact manufacturer profits too. And as long as people will pay a premium for tethering... why give it away?

Officially no tethering as per AT&T. Time to really dump them. Too expensive and the least features.

Unfortunately, they're the only provider that provides coverage where I work. All the other companies (Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) barely get 1 bar while AT&T gets 3-4, sometimes 5.

I just checked what it would cost me to switch to their "unlimited" plan for my iPhone & iPad: $129/month, plus I have to have U-Verse. Kinda sucks.

there plan is very confusing. I just checked it says 60 dollars for unlimited plan... so why is it 100 on the main page. My phone and my fathers are both unlocked does that mean anything?

As you put it, again this topic? How does some European country compare to US in terms of size for example?

I think it's $60 for the plan, and an additional $40 per line added to it. So $60+$40 for one line = $100. $60+$40+$40=$140 for two lines, etc.

So is this magical 22 GB for the entire plan or for each line? I have 7 devises (5 iPhones and 2 iPads). Curious if anyone knows.

Verizon, for instance, still offers cheaper tiered data plans:

2GB - $35
4GB - $50
8GB - $70

You can pay less if you don't use much data... i.e. 2GB or 4GB

But if you can afford $70/mo for 8GB... you should be able to find an extra $10 to get 22GB+

At this point... the 8GB plan seems silly. I wonder how long they'll keep it around.

But getting back to your pricey argument... just a few days ago $80 only got you 12GB.

Now you get 22GB+ for the same price.

That's quite an improvement!
With Verizon there's another piece in play that corporate discounts can't be used for unlimited plans. So for many it's not really the same pricing as 12 GB or even 16 GB.

Ah the unlimited data caps, pure logical fallacy.
Doesn't seem like there's a cap on how much data can be used.

Yup. It's not advertised anywhere and lots of people will swear up and down your lying, but it's the truth. Personally I think the 22GB throttle isn't exactly a very strict rule either as I go over it by a lot... very often.
It's not even a throttle.

Officially?

did you read the entire article?
Did you read even just a bit more of the thread to see that the article didn't have information about single lines initially and that's when those types of early posts about it all were made?

The plan is $60 and then it's $40 per line.

Good. Now when my contract expires I can cancel crappy Directv and still get unlimited data. Tired of see nothing but channels of ads to watch.

Best deal on ATT is 15GB Family plan with FAN discount ($100+15+15+15+15) we never use all 15GB and usually have about 19GB with rollover. 18% off with FAN. this of course is it when you BYOD to avoid that stupid $40 charge per line. Works with NEXT too.

About $140 /4 = $35.20 per line teathering/hotspot and ATT wifi hotspots included.

$220 is crazy expensive, especially if it does not have tethering as well.
How does this work? Is it 15GB per device -- total of 60GB? You said you usually have 19 left over.

All this new fantastic pricing on these unlimited plans, insert sarcasm, makes me VERY happy with my current deal. $140 per month on a 20GB plan with rollover, unlimited talk and text on 4 lines for $140 a month. Love it. (Got the deal back when they went from the 10GB to 20GB for like a few days, LOL).

each line. Could you imagine the uproar if it was on the whole plan lol, people would burn down the headquarters

Its 15GB base for family with rollover...so Let's say first month your family uses 11GB (2.75 GB avg each) then 4 GB roll-over so the next cycle we then have 19 GB. Its always not used amount under 15GB added to next cycle..

So the next month we start with 19GB use 13 GB ..the rollover is 15-13= 2GB so the following month we have 17GB...so it varies each month usually we end up using 10-13 GB. Nice for heavy months if you have that buffer.

"Rollover Data is a benefit that we first introduced with our Mobile Share Value plans where unused data from your monthly plan allowance rolls over for one billing period."

Seriously? One of the main points of this article is that you no longer need to have any other AT&T services in order to get the "Unlimited" plan.

Yeah, I keep hoping they'll bring that double data promo back again for a period of time, but I'm not holding my breath. Last year, an AT&T retentions agent put my family on a 3 GB plan with 3 GB of bonus data for the cost of a 3 GB plan. So, a retentions agent is probably your best shot at getting the deal at the moment (assuming they still have that in their bag of tricks).
