I ditched it after getting frustrated during my 2nd week of bill cycle. I got the double your data and haven't looked back. it would have been nice to have but the tethering option is nice to have when I take my MBP with me.

On hold right now
Trying it for first time. 5 min wait :)
I got mine switched to the $20 plan last week. Make sure you call retentions (the phone option for cancelling service), and be super nice to the CS rep. Ask if they can help you with lowering your bill. Plan to be on hold for awhile while they do whatever it is they need to do on their end. I got it on the first try, but if the rep you get doesn't want to help you, just call back.

Afterwards, they should email you a confirmation of the plan change so you can review it.

Expect a nice fee attached to any future tethering for unlimited users.....

Has there been any suggestion they might do this in the future? I would like that option? $20 for 3 or 5GB of tethering? I might not keep it all the time, but that would be cool.

I've got the same plan but with 1000 min, and the 5$ a month 200 text bundle (which i never really use since everyone is pretty much on imessage)..with a FAN account discount and in CA I'm at about 67$ a month after taxes, which I just can't beat with a newer plan..plus they pay me 450$ every two years to take a new phone. ;-)

Thanks for the info. I have 2 iPhones with Unlimited Data and 700 minutes (now unlimited) and $30 for the unlimited messaging. Just called them and they lowered mine down to $20. Now after my 15% FAN I only pay $149.

Not bad for Unlimited all the way on 2 smart phone.

If you don't mind telling... what exactly did you say to the rep to lower your texting package? I have tried but no go :(

Here is my question...

Has anyone else noticed their data usage has SURGED since they upped the limit to 22GB?

I was using 3-4GB many most, most ever was 5-7GB, and now I'm using 1GB+ per day. I wonder if they are measuring it differently so that we get to the 22GB faster?

I have another iPhone on T-Mobile and get only 1GB per week pay as I go and even with tethering, it hardly gets used up.

This unlimited on AT&T is now just eating away like lightning. It said in the last 24 hours, i used 3GB alone.

Have you noticed you're using more or it's counting as more?

I haven't noticed. I've gone from 3-5 gigs a month to 6-8 gig a month since they got more lenient a few months back. I started using a little more Netflix at the gym :)

Did you by chance get a new 6s or 6s plus this week? Or maybe the new wifi assist setting is making your data higher. You could try turning it off (settings-cellular scroll to bottom).

It's not counting it wrong. You're using it up.
Go to settings, usage and see what apps use how much data.

Well, I'm finally leaving AT&T. I've been with them for 18 years straight and I've had the Unlimited Data Plan for 7 years. Finally realized just how much money I can save with T-Mobile and T-Mo's reception is better in my region and T-Mo's LTE data speed absolutely crushes AT&T. So, I'm going to put my Unlimited Data Plan up for sale and say hasta la vista AT&T.

I'm super happy that they've moved the tower-congestion cap to 22 GB though. I know this is great news for all of you that will continue to keep the plan. Hopefully it keeps getting even better with time. Cheers!

Interesting -- this is a good development.

I've been a AT&T UDP guy for 7 years and I still am, at least for a few more weeks. I just decided to switch over to T-Mobile and I'm waiting on my 6s+ to arrive. When it does, my plan is to port over my AT&T number and cancel service with AT&T.

For years, I've been saying that I will never give up my UDP. However, after thoroughly crunching the numbers from every angle, I've concluded that it just isn't worth it for our (my wife and me's) particular case. By switching over to T-Mobile, we each get 10 GB of high-speed data a month and music streaming is always free. I can also freely tether as much of that 10 GB as I want, for free. I've never used more than 5 GB in a month and my average is 2-3 GB a month. I'm fully aware that data usage will continue to grow over time.

After running the math and carefully considering every single variable, I am saving $31.50 a month by giving up my AT&T UDP and going with T-Mobile. That comes out to a savings of $378 a year! And when you add up that savings year after year, the savings are huge.

Sure, signal coverage is an unknown until I actually get out there and try it out, but T-Mobile has made tremendous advancements over the last year and continues to do so. I suspect that the coverage differences will be somewhat minimal for the region I'm in.

So, even though I've been a UDP customer for years, I finally did the math and it just doesn't make sense to keep a death grip on something that is actually significantly more expensive in the end. I am super stoked though to see that AT&T is changing their policy. It's great for existing UDP customers and it's the right thing to do.

I'm in this same boat on an individual plan but I haven't found a plan cheaper than my ATT UDP. What exactly is the T-Mobile plan you have?

I don't. Even with a FAN discount, I was paying almost 4X more than I am now with T-Mobile.

With T-Mobile, I'm getting unlimited minutes, texts, 10GB of data (unused data rolls over for a year), free hotspot tethering, free music streaming, free international text and data, free calls/LTE to/in Canada & Mexico. And I'm averaging speeds of 45Mbps.
What plan is this?

We have two lines. On AT&T, one has the UDP and the other has a monthly data allotment of 250mb. (yes, mega-bytes.) After our AT&T Fan discount, we pay $116.50 a month plus tax/fees.

On T-Mobile, we now have 10 GB for each line, the usual unlimited voice/text, plus music doesn't count against our data. It is normally $100 for this, but once you include our corporate discount/FAN, we only pay $85 a month plus taxes/fees. This alone saves us $378 a year.

On top of that, T-Mobile does not charge an upgrade fee every time we upgrade, whereas AT&T does. (That's another $40 per line, unless you can talk AT&T unto waiving the fee which seems to be hit or miss.)

One word of caution though. T-Mo's coverage is excellent in our region, but they are still catching up in certain parts of the country, especially in rural areas. They are rapidly expanding, but you might want to check out the coverage for your area first.

Hope this helps.

Ah. Thank you both for the info! But it appears the great discounts are for 2 lines or more. I'm just looking for a better individual plan and so far ATT UDP with FAN can't be beat.

Same here. With my ATT Fan discount factored in I pay less than $80/month before taxes and fees. That gets me 450 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. I see the TMobile plan is $80/month for unlimited talk/text/data. With taxes and no fan discount I'd pay more. Might be worth it if I spoke on the phone a lot but I barely do. I have over 4,000 rollover minutes. Holding on to this UDP for dear life. Thank goodness for the change because I explored leaving it quite a few times due to being throttled to crippling speeds on multiple occasions, effectively making it a 5GB plan.

Yep. I looked at that T-Mobile plan too. I think I'm gonna hold tight onto the UDP for now.

thanks to this thread. I knew about 22GB but did not know about unlimited voice. Just checked and now I got unlimited voice on my 550 familytalk. I almost gave up unlimited plan for double data promo last year.

another bonus is that my upgrade eligibility date is now 5 months earlier. I upgraded to iphone 6 last year on 9/20/2015. my eligibility date is now 4/20/2016.

Hmmm... I am looking to add my kids to our family plan. T-mobile looks interesting.

I was all set to go to T-Mobile upon the launch of the iPhone 6S, because one of my lines was going off contract. Plus, AT&T had made it hard to get the subsidy since you must buy at ATT.com.

T-Mobile is great for international travel too.

Problem is, I have been testing a pre-paid sim (99 cents on their website with free shipping when I bought it), I'm on the $3 a month plan for 30 minutes and I keep adding $10 1GB data packs that last 7 days. Anyway, I've done this to test their network, and while the coverage to at least "work," is almost as good as AT&T in my area, I get speeds as low as 1Mbps in important places. I average around 6-7Mbps, whereas on AT&T I average 30+ and get peaks of 60+. This is making it hard to move to T-Mobile now.

Do your calculations factor in your device costs/subsidies? That is where the savings started breaking down for my family. T-mobile was only going to be very slightly cheaper, if at all after having to pay full price for phones vs the higher monthly rate plus subsidy model at AT&T. So in my case, it wasn't worth risking T-Mobile's coverage, especially since the maps didn't look to good where my brother and sister live (on our plan).

Wow how didn't I see this until now? I was actually considering going to the double data plan it would have saved me around $20 a month but screw that. I have 3 lines on unlimited.
