I sitll cannot get through!! Apple seems to be trying to bypass AT&t now by having me pickup in-store without doing a real pre-order, but I am not interested in that...
Advertising is about image, not reality. And the image is stark - Apple's Xserves - for whatever reason - are FAILING.
After many failed attempts on the Apple site, I was able to order through ATT early this morning with no issues. I did receive a confirmation email, and the order shows in my ATT online account.
Here is a snapshot of the pending order on my ATT account page. Notably, it says "backordered" - not sure if this means it's actually backordered, or it just says that until the release date.

Double checked my order status and it doesnt say backordered.. hopefully it really isnt for you..
Who ever is technically in charge of their site is doing a terrible job. They should know how many requests AT&T can handle as well as their system. They should then be throttling the request.

Got one from Apple's website. I think the servers are improving. On my final few attempts, I was consistently getting farther before it bogged down.
The 24th will be a clusterf*ck.
