90%? i doubt 90% of macrumors readers were unable to place the order.

I don't know percentages, but I have been trying All. Day. Long. 9 hours now (on and off), and the furthest I have gotten was the pricing confirmation before the FAIL.

What irks me is the fundamental unfairness of the situation. Server failures online like this mean that there is no queueing or FIFO. Just a gigantic free for all that makes the situation only much worse. Apple has had to check AT&T more than 100 times now for my account information. If they had just done it once, that would be dozens of more people they could have served. But no. Instead, they've served N O B O D Y .

****ing retards.

If you have more customers than products, there are several ways you can handle that. One is first come first serve, when you run out of product you apologize to folks that didn't get there soon enough. Another way is to take customer names, put them in a hat, draw a few to get the product, and throw the rest of the names away, telling those customers to try again. That doesn't seem like a good way to keep customers happy, but that is basically the way the Apple Store is working now. My name doesn't seem to get drawn from the hat, just tossed aside by the random number gods. I keep trying, but isn't a very good system, in my opinion.

Finally got the GD Apple website to confirm my eligibility and then it crapped out after it showed me my price. Naturally now it can't confirm my eligibility again.

This is a GD complete clusterfook.

You're not going to get any type of reserve number. Its just another way of them saying.. come to the store on the 24th like everyone else and WAIT in line. EVEN though you supposedly have a reservation.

Disregard this man. Apple definitely had reservations last year, and people with reservations were allowed to skip the line.

After trying since about 9:30 am, I got through at AT&T's site about 20 minutes ago. I didn't get an email and I heard reports about people's orders not going through, so I kept trying for Apple...

Finally got through about 5 minutes ago. I'll keep checking to see if that AT&T order went through, if so I'll just cancel it.

Either way I'll have a 32 GB iPhone 4 at my house next Thursday, shortly followed by a black bumper. :)

I just looked at my status page, i made my order at 2AM pst and it does not show any quantities as being backordered.

My confirmation email from ATT came in at 2:13 AM Pacific. No idea why mine says backordered... ugh.

No, they didn't. At our store, they had a different line, but both lines were being serviced simultaneously.

Fortunately, I got mine before they ran out, but I have no illusions that they were definitely going to run out of reservations before they ran out of phones.

Thanks to the person who said "just keep trying". I finally got thru after a long night and day. On to the next headache... the delivery! haha I got thru on apple.com with Google Chrome for anyone who really is trying. Something about IE and Firefox didn't seem right so I tried Google Chrome the last 30 attempts. LOL

So glad the iPhone App worked when it did. I was able to reserve my 16Gb black iPhone 4 (exchanging my recently purchased 3Gs back, and before you say anything people I knew the new one was coming but being an iPhone developer I needed a new iPhone ASAP and my last unluckily had some water damage that warrented the new phone but I digress) Apple Store near me said they would swap within 30 days as required apparently by AZ or US law according to the Apple rep.

Anyways the app still shows my reservation and I did get my reservation email from Apple. I work till 3:30 that day so it will be after the huge rush in the morning. But I may ask to work late that day or just take the day off so I can ensure I actually get it. Though some of you apparently have talked to Apple Stores, and I guess if our reservations says they will hold till end of business on the 24th then for sure they will. If that's the case then AWESOME that will work for me.

Finally! Only took me 9 hours of trying!

After trouble all morning and giving up for a few hours, I got my order for home delivery completed on the Apple website at about 3:45 PM.

After the cluster that was today, I'm a bit too worried about the 24th to deal with in-store pickup. I'll be canceling the "reservation" I made via the app.

For those that ordered via Apple, how long did it take to get a confirmation email?

It's been two hours and I don't have mine. The order is showing on the account page of the website just fine though.

To hell with them.

I will pre-order it tomorrow... If I don't get it launch day then so be it. I am not gonna sit here all night long begging to give them $400...

I was looking forward to this all week... What a disappointment.

After a long power nap, got my reservation confirmation email at 7:13 AM, just to find out all these people bashing on the reservation. Why would apple have an option that would be pointless, if all you required was to be in line? So, i went to my local store, asked to speak to the manager and he said, more or less " We are all aware of the fine print on the reservation email ( the " first come, first served" ) but that's not how things work, on the 24th, you will have a device here with your name on it, and we will hold it until the end of business day, now if you don't pick it up we will sell it to the general public the next day, for example if we get 1500 devices and 1000 people reserved we will place 1000 aside for those with reservations and save them for them until the end of the day." So, don't worry, if you have a reservation just get to the store that day and you will have it on LAUNCH day, lines or not.

I feel like I work for NASA or something-
Having Safari and Firefox open side by side checking on both sides if the thing goes thru.
It keeps declining after I see the eligibility pricing - I am seriously about to start smoking again.
Nuts-

Just got mine ordered after 13 hours of trying.

If anyone is still having trouble, log into your ATT account, and change the address in some way (you can change it back immediately). This was suggested earlier, and after everything else failed, I tried it. First time, got right to the checkout.

Good news if true. I finally managed to get an online order in, after I had reserved one at the retail store. Between the two I hope I end up with a new phone on the 24th.

although i ordered on on att earlier i just got through again using the same phone number at apple.com and ordered a 2nd. so ill either give the 2nd one to the wife or deal with att and apple with having 2 phones

I gave it one more try through Apple.com

It will only let me have it delivered to my billing address, wont send it to my work... Oh well..

BUT SWEET GOD ALMIGHTY THE ORDER WENT THROUGH!!!
