As for the confirmation email, it happened to me many times ordering through the online store. For my MB Pro last month, it took them 8 hours to send me something. I wouldn't worry too much. :)

Damn I am so glad. I can finally take a cat nap since I've been up since 12AM PST to 7AM and from 10AM to right now. I feel like I am hangover.
 
You are a genius seriously. I switched to GC and it immediately went through. To all of you turning insane try Google Chrome - It's been 12 hours and finally WORKED. A-ma-zing.

I have been trying with GChrome all day, since 3 am until now and it only worked about 10 minutes ago so not sure it's all due to the browser ;) I think they either fixed the problem with the server or people are giving up.

Whats up everyone,

Phew! I'm glad that is over and I can rest now (I Think!)

I just wanted to give my own insight on my experience hoping I can help some of you out!!! I CAN ASSURE ALL OF YOU THAT I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY DONE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Chose "Existing" and "Replace a phone on my account with a new iPhone" replacing my existing iPhone 3G with an iPhone 4 by renewing my 2 year contract

2. Paid $299 + NY tax which came out to $324.79 Total via Apple.com store with my itunes account

3. Have a printed receipt from the website displaying my order number

I CAN ASSURE YOU I HAVE NOT:

1. Received any other form of notification of my order going thru. No emails!

2. Had a fun 14 hours trying to order

I kept going to apple. com and clicking away.... After a number of failed tries, I took a break for dinner. When I came back I tried 3 more times, and on the fourth try it worked, and i got a message on the bottom saying "Not ready to buy? We've saved your eligibility request and you can come back to purchase anytime within the next 30 days." So You bet I was real excited to see that! Now I clicked continue, and WHAM! my hopes were shot down by an Oops error message! Not to worry because hey, they saved my eligibility request remember? WHAM! right in my face once again! I go back and click pre-order again, and they forgot all about who I was!

I then went ahead and logged into the apple store with my itunes account BEFORE clicking any pre-order buttons!

Now after logging in I clicked pre-order, it went thru, but timed out adding to the cart again!

THIS TIME THEY REMEMBERED ME!!!!!!!

I went back to the cart and hit check-out!

KEEP TRYING PEOPLE, My last hint of advice, click the buttons only once, and wait, it may seem like it is stuck hanging, but if you wait, you will be rewarded!

Been reading everyones struggles in this thread. Just finally got through apple.com... they do only let you ship to the billing address in your account... Since I dont do autopay I changed the billing address to my work shipping address. Once I get my iPhone I'll change it back to home :).

Ah so relieved to have gotten a confirmation number, hope to get an email confirmation soon, and avoid the chaos that will be instore activation... If it is this bad for preordering, how bad will it be on launch day to activate all those pickups?!

I just hope iTunes activation goes a bit smoothly.
 
I managed to place an order. I have an order number. No confirmation email yet, so we'll see how long that takes.

Finally after 10 hours of trying I got it to go through. I took someone's advice (can't find the post) and logged in to the apple store w/ my Apple ID then tried ordering and it took two tries and went right through. I also selected the 16GB model then changed to the 32 later in the ordering form.

What a horribly mismanaged situation this has been.

if I go to my account on AT&T and look at my orders and it says processing... does that mean the order is going through? i never got a confirmation email... i'm worried
 
Seems that now everyone orders are going through? I just really hope the ones through apple deliver on June 24th (or earlier)... I mean, they are the ones making the freaking phones.

Most people seem to be doing the 16GB, maybe 32GB will have a bit more breathing room as far as stock goes? who knows.

People, it's 'I couldn't care less'! 'I could care less' doesn't make sense. It would mean that you do care… at least a bit.
 
Did anyone else's eligibility date for some reason get changed to 11/16/2011, and now you can't upgrade? :mad:
 
Yup, second time on Chrome worked after trying all day on Safari. Tried side-by-side with both, Safari still crapped out, Chrome did the job. iPhone accomplished.

no confirmation email though. Glad I held out going via ATT.

Curious about the monthly plan though.... I have a FAN discount.. Should get 8% off data and voice...
 
Still can't get through. Get to the point where it shows my eligibility and $199 price, I click continue, and it spins until it times out and offers me to order for store pickup instead. No way in hell will I stand in line, so I guess I'll stick with my old 3G for the time being.

i've been lurking here over the past few days, and while this morning i was envious of the MANY people who were able to pre-order, i am now in a pseudo-confused state.

after trying to pre-order via the apple website all day at work, i left for the day and decided to give the AT&T site a shot. well, two tries in and it worked at 5:15pm CST. i ended up with a confirmation number and receipt*. the BGR and stories on here began to scare me. although i don't particularly NEED or want the phone on launch day, i don't want to wait for some stroke of luck to get the phone. so...i tried the apple website again, after some of you seemed to be getting through, and i seemed scared that with everything going on on AT&T's site...

well, i was FINALLY able to get through, and without second-guessing myself, i pre-ordered there as well, and even got the "thank you" screen. now for my confusion and fear. i fear i may be getting either two phones or none. i know one or two of you may be in a similar situation. any advice? i assume i can always return the phone from apple to an apple store, but i worry about the one coming from AT&T. how simple/difficult is it to cancel the order? personally, i have more confidence in my order with apple than i do with AT&T, but don't want to be stuck almost $700 out, with two phones. that's about 3 months worth of student loan payments for me!

*edited to add that i haven't received emails confirming either order, and my bank has no pending payments. i have a confirmation number for both orders via their respective "order complete" or "thank you" pages.*

At this point id assume it would be pretty simple to cancel either order. Id wait a day or two though because the sites not working very well today. Then either cancel one online or call them up if you are worried.

I think I found the reason...I found a check your order status button on ATT's website and did it for *****'s n giggles. Look at that! The order that timed out this morning at 6:45 CST apparently went thru That's why I couldn't upgrade (again). :eek::mad::rolleyes::D
 
Still No Luck!

As of 5:35 PM West coast time, still no luck. Got through once and asked only for in store pick up. No option to ship it to my house. I'll be out of the country on the 24th, so won't be able to pick it up. Come on Apple!
 
I decided to just reserve mine since I'd be surprised if they actually get delivered on the 24th now if you pre-order.
