I like how you can discuss without being a pompous dick. Not.

So by your logic Apple would just stick the feature back into the messaging program *hoping that AT&T would be ready for it this time? Or is it that Apple is planning their release dates around AT&T's (in)ability to handle this revolutionary new feature?

Yeah your logic is a lot better.

I'm not saying it was but just keep in mind that Apple does not cater to AT&T.

I think the point people are trying to make is that yes, Apple introduced MMS into the iPhone OS with 3.0 yet AT&T wasn't ready for it which is why the camera button wasn't present in the Messages app.

In 3.1 (beta, so far) the camera button is there. Logic would dictate that if they took it out for the final release of 3.0 then put it back for the beta of 3.1, the actual public release is going to closely relate to the activation of the MMS service or be directly linked.

That's my logic anyway. Discuss.

That may be true, but AT&T doesn't need OS 3.1 for us to have MMS. All we need is a carrier update (just look at the few who have got it to work in the U.S. in various threads). The problem with the ones who do get it to work, is that then AT&T sweeps the account and turns it off and they have to redo everything. So, why do you think OS 3.1 would particularly matter if others have already got it w/o OS 3.1?

Awesome. A mature discussion.

I was only pointing to the fact of the camera button being present in 3.1 because it would make sense to me that Apple and AT&T would try to work together for once and have the new OS revision come out with a button that actually does what it's supposed to.

I guess my question is why would AT&T enable MMS while most users are still using 3.0 which, without a hacked file, doesn't have the MMS option built in? OR why would Apple release an OS with a button that has no function? Again, I'm just trying to think logically here.

I'd also like to remind everyone that I am FULLY aware AT&T doesn't need an OS update to enable MMS.

yea the deadline has already been set, it doesn't benefit AT&T to let people eat all the bandwidth, the disappointment factor of "late summer" has already set in, lets hope they make the right choice and it comes sooner than expected :p

Yeah...I know it wont happen but if iphone went to T-mobile I'd acctually pay the cancellation fee.
I just bought my iphone in Feb. so I have a year and a half to go.

It's aggravating how people really don't know jack. 3.0 already brought MMS so 3.1 can bring MMS all it wants but it's AT&T's choice to go through with it or not.

Yeah, it was.

sorry, but you are all wrong. 3.0 was able to accept the carrier file which was modified by someone on this forum. Apple quickly shut that down. 3.0 did NOT come from Apple with MMS enabled...it was enabled by loading a hacked carrier file. It was the GM release that closed the window for installing the hacked carrier (or any carrier file).

I'm 100% positive that if T-mobile had a 3G network that worked with my iPhone I would have ditched AT&T sometime last year. I had no problem with them until they started their shenanigans with Apple.

You'd think AT&T would want to improve their image. I was surprised when they offered the early upgrades after all the complaining. So, I was thinking with all the complaining that's still going on over MMS (and tethering) that AT&T might try to do this sooner. I just don't think it'll be joint thing due to Apple coming out with OS 3.1. How long does beta testing normally take anyway? Surely longer than a few months? IDK.

There you go and there you go. People keep forgetting that MMS was part of the BETA of 3.0. Who knows, maybe Apple was under the impression that AT&T could handle itself as a major cell network. It was never officially included in the GM.

No, you are wrong.

3.0 was able to accept the carrier file which was modified by more than just one person.

Apple didn't shut that down.

3.0 did come from Apple with MMS enabled.

The way I see it AT&T has some making-up to do with iPhone customers.

Maybe this will be the time they'll implement those rumored lower data plan prices...

:)rolleyes: yeah I know I'm dreaming)

yeah my problem with ATT is just iphone features and the price. But if I am an iphone fan Ima stick with it.

wtf?
No, Apple gave us 3.0 and there was NO icon. A hacked carrier file opened up the camera icon.

how does this translate to Apple enabled MMS. If you didnt hack the carrier + do alot of other things there was no MMS.

so you can say what you want, but the fact remains that if you loaded the files Apple provided...there was NO MMS.

But that was due to 4.0 update we got, wasn't it?

Does 3.1 have the MMS icon? or would it be comming out on 3.2?

After MMS I want a 5 mega pixel cam lol Or if my iphone could make me money I'd call it the intelligent phone.

if you look around, the testers and developers are all stating that 3.1 does have the mms camera icon.

also...there are plenty of 5 mega pixel cell phone cameras out there today. most of them not as good at the 3gs camera. why would you think the size of the mp matters at all?

Unless you're blowing your pictures up to be framed on the wall, you don't need any more than the 3 megapixels that are included.

I don't remember much about the photography classes I took ten years ago in high school but that little fact is pretty common knowledge.

I've been seeing a lot of posts about MMS and teathering... I would like both also but we all have to wait until AT&T releases it..

I really have been thinking of getting rid of my 3G and moving onto something else... Just remember apple didn't come out with anything revolutionary when they came out with the iphone except for a touch screen.. Other than that all the feature's that the iphone is FINALLY getting has been out for YEARS..

The only thing the iphone has going for it right now is the App Store.. If apple didn't have that I'm sure the iphone would be falling on it's face.. I have to see what my money situation is in the next couple of months..

When AT&T rolls out MMS I bet we will have a boat load of issues with dropped calls, slow internet texting probelms, etc... I will then decide if I'm going to jump ship and either cancel my AT&T account or try to stick it out until my contract is up, then I will decide what carrier to go with... The pre is looking pretty good right now...

Like lostprophets said...YES the 3.0 beta had MMS enabled. The final release (7A341), however, had it disabled for AT&T. I remember being excited that the camera was there when I downloaded the beta from the dev center, only to find out it never worked.

wtf?

AT&T didn't allow us to have the proper carrier file. The other countries did.
