Most concealed carry owners do not have any actual training besides basic firarms safety, and are more of a danger to themselves and the community than anything else. Why do you think police officers undergo intensive and ongoing training in the use of firearms?

I disagree... some CCW holders are better marksmen than most police officers. Some police officers are gun people, but some just do the minimum to pass their qualifier.

I know countless CCW holders that shoot over 1000 rounds a month, and a know a few Police Officers that rarely go to the range and may not shoot more than 100 rounds every 6 months.

As always painting with broad strokes is never a good idea.

I hope this was in self defence. There is no other reason for him shooting the guy in the head. I hope he has an excuse, otherwise he may find himself in prison for a long time.

Another completely ignorant reply. You hit the targets you have available to you it is a simple as that. Even if other body parts where available it is far better for society that criminals end up shot in the head. The simple fact is that is the defective part so live or die that bullet in the head delt with that which was dysfunctional.

Oh by the way personally I don't care if the criminal was armed or not. Dy definition they are criminals and the best possible outcome is that they all die before society has to spend millions on them.

being the CCW permit holder that I am... I sure hope this guys did more than break some glass; security guard is going to feel a lot of pain for this one... doesnt matter if that guy was running with the whole damn store being pulled behind him, can't shoot at all for this one. I really hope there is more to this story.

PEOPLE READ!!! THE GUARD EXCHANGED GUNFIRE WITH THE PERPS!!! I've read too many posts saying the guard is gonna pay for this and that, etc. That it was excessive, etc. He was in a gunfight with criminals! He has a right to defend himself!

Now repeat that 10 times before you post anything else! I swear I don't think people read more than the headline of some articles.

Ipads aren't worth dying for. My condolences to the families to these robbers.

iPads are not, but armed robbery and shoplifting are 2 totally different things.

My condolences to the officer who was forced by these robbers to use lethal force.

Think you mean "seconds". And I agree - noting no automatics required, and everyone was pretty sloppy in placement.

I suspect that the guard probably only fired a single clip full while the robbers came with extra clips pre loaded also. Very scary to see someone shooting at you and pulling for a pre loaded clip.

Kudos To The Security Guard

for having balls!!!!

I am tired of whiney PC sheep trying to prevent criminals from getting tried and found guilty due to their actions....on the spot!!!

Wish all 3 would have been shot in the head.

In fact it is, so long as you're not involved in illegal drugs.

Sure... What fictional movie are you watching bro

More people die daily in the USA through gun crime than in the field of battle across the globe!

Sad indeed...

But think about it, someone decided to commit a crime. A minor one at that, but still a crime. When one chooses this course of action, there are consequences.

In this case, the security guard acted based on what he perceived in the situation. Details of which are not known, but he too chose to act in a given way.

Somewhere, something prompted him and the criminal (s) to draw a gun. They fired and 40 rounds were exchanged. Seems to me that the encounter although sad, was met with equal reaction on both ends.

In the end, no computer is ever worth the loss of life. Let us hope that other criminals think before they act.

How sad,
I mean a person lost his life because of his actions, and the guard now has to live with the fact that he took a life. All for what - some iToys? Doesn't seem worth it. :(

I'm as pro gun rights as anyone, but this sounds like a problem for the security guard. Unless that guard's life was in danger, there was no reason to shoot anyone, especially in the head. The placement of that shot was no accident.

That being said, I'm sure there are a lot of facts we don't know. Innocent until proven guilty, of course.
Do you have a reading comprehension problem? 40 shots were exchanged. The suspects were packing heat and using it against the security guard. His life was in danger.

Dang, I though rent-a-cops only carried flashlights. People dying over Apple stuff is just crazy, at least go rob a bank, that is where all the money is!

Now there's irony!

It seems the security guard did what he had to do. So long as he responded to shots, or an imminent and highly likely risk of shots being fired, he was defending himself.

However, despite the fact that these men turned up armed and willing to fight I still would have preferred that everyone left alive. I am above hoping people will die.

The security guard likely had a couple of pre-loaded magazines as well ("clips are world war 1 crap now do some pushups" is what the range master would say in my police academy class to anyone calling them clips :) ). I carried a total of 37 rounds while on duty--12 & 1 in the weapon and 2 extra 12 round magazines. Since he was former law enforcement, I imagine he probably carried a similar setup while acting as security.

The security guard just saved CA taxpayers a nice chunk of change.

Tax payers dont really mind. Just look how they rolled over for the bankers and the government. Billions of dollars transferred back to the wealthy and we barely bit the pillow.:D:D:D:D:D

Because bad people have no way to obtain guns in the UK, right?

I wouldn't say no way... Just a very hard way - hence a very low gun related crime rate especially when you consider London alone. Going by American statistics London should be worse than Gotham city!
