basically....im one state away and it's a 2.5 hour drive which im not even sure I want to make due to the gas costs

This isn't meant towards anyone in-particular, but, you make a thread with cheap Macs, people view it, and all off a sudden noone has any money, their dad's brother's son's friend needs it....etc, etc, etc.

So amusing to read people beg like that.

Hahaha, an hour's drive from my house! But no, it's during band camp, and I will be figuratively shot if I miss that. Maybe I can get somebody else... A $50 iBook might be in my future, if there are any left by the time I, or that somebody else, gets there. And no, I won't be getting any for anybody, so don't even bother to ask...

Heh. I was thinking the exact same thing. Always happens, doesn't it.

Are you serious? What are you driving? Honestly, you are worried about gas costs for a 2.5 hour drive? I am driving 6 hours to get there. My car, a 98 Mazda Protege, can get me a 4 hour round trip on 1 tank of gas, about 10 gallons. So I figure a 6 hour trip each way, probably more like 5, but I will go with 6 on this one, is 12 hours total. So i figure 3 tanks of gas at about $25 a tank is $75. Well worth it to me. I guess no one in this thread has any money, eh?

Damn, if I was still living in Old Town Alexandria, I'd be driving down there to get one....I'll have to pass this on to some friends - thanks for the link.

Yes, i'm serious and I don't have a 98 Mazda Protege

I'm not tryin to sound like an ass or anything, and my protege's mileage definately is nothing to be proud of (but my prius will be when I get it :))- so how bad could your mileage be?

Stop driving an H2. :)

it's not that bad on gas it's just the fact that people are planning on camping out to get an old computer....that makes me want to jump on the deal even less because i'd be real bummed to find out I got there in the morning and couldnt get one after driving for 2.5 hours

Can you all say "mob scene"? I wonder how many people are going to show up there for a crack at one of 1,000 iBooks... don't forget, Richmond is a fairly large city, and Washington DC and Baltimore are not too far away (2, 2.5 hours driving time).

Maybe if I lived in Richmond I'd go... but otherwise, there are going to be a lot of disappointed folks being turned away.

This place is going to be PACKED, I think I'll stay home but it's so damn tempting...my mom says she doesn't need an iBook but I know she'd like one. I was looking on eBay but they are $400  Oh well maybe I'll just buy Mom and iBook she deserves it anyway! :D

it might *not* be as big a mob scene as you think... 1000 notebooks is a lot. it's also a tuesday... lots of people work...

that being said, i'm taking the day off of work with a couple of my buddies from up here in DC. leaving town nice and early...

i've done that drive in an hour and ten, cops will let you go 85 down I-95... leaving dc around 6

very excited!

I think it will be pretty packed. I'd make sure you get there plenty early.

Just don't assume that only the Mac faithful will show up. My guess is lots of people will buy these with the intention of making $250 and sell on eBay. That's more than most people make all morning so it's worth their time to take off work an hour or two.

Oooooo, thinking about making a special trip from delaware just for the occasion...gotta love having a Toyota Echo for such occasions- 40 mpg highway! I get almost 400 miles out of one tank :)

Anyone else from up here wanting to go down? Misery loves company...

Hey guys be sure to take plenty of pictures, I wonder how many people they can cram into the school's parking lot!!

I might go but, I'm debating weather or not it's worth it. This story is now all over the web...I bet that place will be a madhouse! :D haha

I understand that this is a one-per-person deal, but if someone gets one I will pay you $125 shipped for it.

You may not need it because you have a nicer system, but at least you could help out those of us living in Wisconsin, where an "apple" is a thing that grows in your backyard. :D

Some people (like myself) bearly have any money to spend on macs.

The timing works out perfectly. It's all set. I live in central/south New Jersey. My brother is on vacation that week in Sea Isle City (south, south Jersey). It's a 6.... maybe 5 hours drive from either location. So I am gonna meet him at Sea Isle monday afternoon, then take 1 car either via a ferry out of New Jersey or around the damned water, should be about the same distance either way. We are aiming to get there at midnight on tuesday. Should be a fun time.
