it's not that bad on gas it's just the fact that people are planning on camping out to get an old computer....that makes me want to jump on the deal even less because i'd be real bummed to find out I got there in the morning and couldnt get one after driving for 2.5 hours

My thoughts exactly. Just how much is my time worth. About 2 hours from the greater DC area. Given the deal one can expect to need to arrive 2 to 6 hours ahead from the first sale. Then another 2 hours back. For my Baja, I can count on about $25 to $30 in gas, maybe a few dollars in tolls. So hard costs are about $75. Add to that you can arrive 6 hours ahead of the sale and still be out of luck.

Pretty much a non starter for me.

I'm going to go there at 4 AM and see if anyone is out there, if not i'm going back home to sleep for another hour. There is a McDonalds right across the street that opens at either 6 or 6:30 AM but I can't remember.

The only other event that I know that people were out there early was for Nascar tickets. People started lining up at around 7 AM. The local news and all that were there.

I would love to help anyone out but it's one per person.

I am from richmond but I dont live there now I live in elkins wv. I plan on driving down for the ibook offer. Here is the plan the gate will be closed outside until 8 am instead of driving through the gate and having to park and walk to the sale I think I am going to park at the churches chicken next door walk to the gate and when it opens run like hell to the front of the line. Everyone else will be slowed down by there cars.

I am getting there at 5am we should set up a place for all of the mac rumors people who are going to meet, and when we get there we can develop a plan to get to the front of the line.

Well somewhat bad news about this...the news of this has spread many other forums as well as news sites...so for the people who don't think the scene is gonna' be mobbed and that it's only the people of that town and mac rumors know of this sale...lol, there are tons of ebay vulchers already all over this

BUT, with that being said...I will also offer up the standard 100 + 50 + shipping for one of these I see people throwing out there.

I won't lie, I don't have a dying sister, or blind cousin, or want to donate it to the lady across the street. I just don't have a laptop, I actually HAD one of those white ibooks...but sold it for monetary reasons. I would love to get my hands on one for such a nice price. No loans, no debt, it'd be nice to buy one and get it all taken care of right there.

The ibook is more than what I want for a mobile option.

PM me if anyone out there is intersted in helping a fellow mac guy out

Watch out for tow trucks and don't park in Rite Aid. I would park at Mcdonalds.

You can park at Winston Manor ( I live there ) and Park in Guest Parking, they don't tow those.

I'll be there. Me and the fam are going to scope out the place tomarrow, ya know, decide where to park and all that.

On the 9th, we should be there by 2AM.

Dude. I think I'm crazy.

OK so I'm in Wisconsin & I"m gonna get there @....
Well, no I'm not goin'. But...

I just love how this story is unfolding. It just makes me think of when I was @ the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay & they have surplus sales. Circa 1998. They sold off old computers with a 2 per person limit. Gateways & Macs. The Gateways sold out & the Macs languished basically. I went the day after the sale & the guy in charge was lamenting he would have to pay $5 per computer to ship them to UW-Madison where there is a Mac following. So I offered $5 each for 17 that were left. Mostly PowerMac 7100's & 7500's (I think) but also one 2300c Duo & a 4400. Sold all but one on eBay. Gave it to my 85yo Aunt.

So I feel this cheap mac rush.
Just had to share.

Enjoy!

PS I can't wait to read what happens on the day of the sale.

As for the idea about all macrumors people meeting and planning on how to get to the front of the line.....................I'll be there, right in front of the gate, at around 0530.
