I installed MAME and Street Fighter 3 but my Apple TV is just stuck on the MAME start screen. I cannot select any games. Is it normal, that the first time takes a while? I waited 10 minutes...

I guess Street Fighter 3 is one of the bigger games but I heard that it is supposed to work with MAME :(

Wanna shoot my Hadoukens :(

EDIT: I actually got it to work that the App runs. But it cannot find the game. Any tipps? placed it in res/roms folder, than dragged to Ressources and then build the app, no luck :(
You drag The roms into resources folder not the rom folder

well I put it in ressources/roms for the files and then in Xcode just in the ressources folder. that's what it says on those youTube tutorials. Was that wrong?

Sometimes putting things into the resources folder alone isn't enough to convince Xcode to copy them to the device.

Select the project in the navigator and then go to the Build Phases tab and make sure that the roms folder you dragged in is also included on the "Copy Bundle Resources" section. If it's not there it won't be moved to the device, just drag it across into there and it will be.

well, i'm new to Xcode but I think it does copy them, it says so in the bar on top where it says 'running Mame on Apple TV' in the end :( Can I share the screen for someone of you? I'm a bit frustrated now :( Teamviewer, Skype... Or maybe something is wrong with the ROMS? Those are for MAME and include 2 files, a .chd and a zip (for the BIOS I think)

Sf3 id chd. I don't own an atv4 but do know that mames need different machine emulators depending on the game.
For sf3 though try this that I had copied a few ago in my mame notes:
1. Place the zipped sfiii3 parent rom in the MAME roms folder as you normally would for any rom file.
2. Now make a new folder and name it sfiii3. Put the cap-33s-2.chd file as is into the newly created folder. Leave the new folder unzipped. Now put this new folder in the MAME roms folder.
3. Refresh your games list and launch the game.

I have been able to install provenance on a couple of Apple tvs without problem. My most recent attempt however, I seem to get the error "could not find developer disk image" when pushing the "play" button. Anyone else run into this or could help me resolve this error?

Thanks.

Street Fighter 3 was added relatively recently in MAME's life (in the past few years), and I am not 100% sure the version of MAME that currently runs on Apple TV is new enough to support SF3 - maybe try and find a compatibility list for the MAME version for Apple TV? I'm not sure what MAME version it is, but I know its quite old.

Provenance has no way to reprogram buttons, that I can see? Correct?

Need this for NES games. Want to swap some buttons

To better represent the nostalgia I have for old school Nintendo, I changed Provenance's icon on my AppleTV to this:

In addition, I changed the name of the app to Nintendo. Under Build Settings there's a line item called Packaging and under that there's Product Name. I changed it to Nintendo and rebuilt it on my AppleTV.

I also added a Top Shelf image and changed the splash image to the Nintendo logo.

I'm astounded at how easy it was to side load this app, get the ROMs and play. Kudos to Provenance for putting together such a polished app that looks great and performs seamlessly.

Does anybody know how to change the name that shows up in the Home screen? I'd rather it say Nintendo.

Can you post a picture of how that looks on the Apple TV and how was it done

Please see my screen above. I simply replaced the assets for the icons in the folder where I saved Provenance. There are 2 different icons. One large, one small. When I changed the large one, nothing changed. AppleTV displays the small icon on the Home screen. Once I changed that one, the change appeared on my AppleTV. Each icon has a background and a foreground. I created a grey gradient for the background and the controller for the foreground. This creates the parallax effect.

Once you've made all your changes, you'll have to rebuild it on your AppleTV by connecting via USB-C and hitting the Play button in Xcode.

They had both on display at the Apple the other day. I like the Horipad better in almost every way. It feels more solid, has slightly better ergonomics on the shoulder buttons and the tactical pressure on the pad/buttons was nicer. That said, the nimbus is not bad. Just a hair behind in most areas. I own a nimbus and it's not enough better to replace it, but if I have a need for a second controller in the future it will be a Horipad.
