The presidents' podium is backed by two FASCIST symbols on either side

We have reviewed your planning objection and your justification for this single, Australian store to be prevented from opening at the bright new King Street location, servicing the Sydney CBD, is unconvincing at best.

In future, please raise your objections to store openings with the city council *before* construction occurs.

It is the decision of this committee that the King Street Apple Store will open, regardless of the objections from those opposing the move.

Sincerely...

P.S. You're boring, and your tin-foil hat is of poor construction and will offer only intermediate levels of protection.

Now how about two more apple stores....

One in Mumbai.... (thats where the Bollywood is) and one in Auckland, New Zealand and I have my bases covered :D

Apple is currently working in India with a reseller to open a huge number of "iStore" branded premium resellers.

I guess they're going to help test the waters but I wouldn't be surprised if they open a few stores in the (many) higher end areas of the cities. They'd be nuts not to, the economy there is gigantic.

Give it time!

For all of those other Aussies waiting or is it longing to get an Apple store near them give it time is my mail as Apple has big plans down under, not sure about the kiwi's though.

I hear the Sydney and Melbourne Geniuses returned only today from Cupertino from training and initiation and all reports are that Apple was very happy with them. I think they start work as early as Thursday/Friday this week setting up the store :apple:

M sure that will happen.... Even though the market is huge for Iphone (now with 3G, GPS and extended battery) but the niche Mac market will be scarce there. The potential Sales for IPhone in markets like India and China are still very big and this should alone be a big enough incentive for :apple:.

I also see Apple - NZ store very shortly. Here the market for Ipods and IPhone has been absolutely stunning. Almost every other person owns an Ipod. I can hardly find ppl listening to music on anything other than IPod. I work for IT-dept in one of the major Uni's here and have seen the Mac-usage sky rocketting in the last couple of years. Even though the market is not very big in NZ but still its very lucrative for apple considering the rapidly expanding Mac-user base here....

Why another in Sydney? The thing that really cheeses me off about Apple is why they would open up two stores in close proximity in one city!

What are you talking about? This is the first and only Apple retail store, not only in Sydney, but in Australia in fact!! There was talk of a mini store opening in Sydney too as well as the one in Chadstone, Melbourne, but this is what is known as a "flagship" store - different to a mini store.

But you're right. There should only be one flagship store per city. Having more than one store is a strategic decision made by Apple to earn more revenue!

i think hes referring to the fact that there are HUNDREDS (literally) of apple stores/resellers already around. E.G. nextbyte, myer, fonezone blaablaablaa etc.

but this is the official apple store, so i suppose yes it is the first one.

Oh thank God there's a store opening in Australia!! About f*****g time too. Enjoy it, Sydney.

But what I'm really excited about is the retail store opening on Chapel Street in Melbourne (because I live in Melbourne). For non-Melbournians, Chapel Street is one of Melbourne's biggest shopping strips. Should be great!

He's talking about Apple opening two Apple Stores within spitting distance in the city of Sydney. The one in George St and the one in Chatswood Chase.

The Chatswood one isn't rumoured - the bunting is all up and the store is being fitted out as we speak. It's not a flagship store, it's one of those smaller ones like the store that opened in Vancouver this week.

you clearly are not an aussie.....

Neither of you are, Vegemite is owned by Kraft Foods, a US company. Even Promite, which was initially owned by Masterfoods was bought out by Mars Incorporated, another US company. Marmite is owned by a UK company (I think), which is probably closer to our roots, but there is no longer an Australian owned and made yeast spread. Switch to Dick Smith's Peanut butter instead ;)

Us Aussies are a bunch of lazy bums, why would we need a store when we can order online and the nice man delivers to our door?

edit: Unless the female apple genius' are hot, then I'm so there....

Because that's no fun.

And I need an excuse to spend a weekend up in Sydney.

Yes Vegemite is technically trademarked by Kraft but it has poor sales in the US. its heritage and high sales in Australia make it more Australian than American. its Australian… but not "technically".

In the US, at least, it's a nice way to deliver your Apple for repair at the depot. I have not yet experienced AppleCare service Aussie-style, so I don't know what's normal here. It's probably a long way to drive to save a day or so of transit time though.

(and I think I'll take a pass on vegemite, marmite, and promite, thanks...)

Well, I'm sure a lot of work has been put into the Sydney store. It has to, after all, live up to the title of one of the prettiest cities in the world.

Damn, I shed a tear thinking about it - I miss Australia!

It´s not the first store in the southern hemisphere

I know for sure, I have been last week in the Mac Store in Mandela´s Square, Johannesburg... a [very] small store for my taste, but a Mac Store indeed.

Chatswood Chase location opening August

Just talked to mall concierge and they believe the mall contract allows Apple to open in July/August.

I watched as some crew entered and you can see a pile of wrapped up merchandise boxes on skids. Looks like inventory so maybe it will open up sooner.

It's a reseller. These are actual Apple Stores owned and run by Apple Inc.

There are hundreds of Apple reseller stores all over the Southern Hemispere but none of them are in any way owned or run by Apple. These ones are - it makes a big difference in terms of the service and support that can be offered in store. The Apple Stores are where the buck stops, at a reseller they will do everything they can but at a certain point because they are not owned by Apple they will have to pass the issue up the chain. There are some great resellers here and overseas but this is the next step up.

Dude, I'm an Aussie too, and Kraft has never been Australian owned - US company since (I think) 1903.
I remember thinking as a kid that Kraft HAD to be Australian, because they made Vegemite!!!
