I decided some time ago after seeing the hideous icons and other gaudy look & feel aspects of iOS 7, that I'm staying with iOS 6 on my very nice iPhone 5. It does everything I want and has nothing I don't want.

Your discontinued iPhone 5 is going to run an outdated iOS because you don't like the icons of iOS 7? Is that your reasoning? Whatever floats your boat.

It starts fine then seems to speed up and ends in a very cluttered, unnatural, and messy fashion. It looks abysmal. It appears that it should be the same animation as the first boot, where the app icons fall into place, but it seems to end at x5 the speed it should and looks utterly shoddy. It's broken because it looks like ****.

I think I see what you mean, but it's not really a major glaring thing, just a subtle slight choppiness as you pinch to close. Certainly not worth twisting knickers about. :)

But yeah, the iPad version DOES feel a bit half baked. I'm sure it'll be fine in a few releases.

Surprisingly in my mini ios7 is running great. Just as good as ios6. I wonder why it's running like that in the 4. And I must say io7 has grown on me so much. I'm totally loving it.

I have an iPad Mini and it takes a while to change wallpaper. So much so that the first time I didn't think my selection registered and kept tapping. On the iPhone 5 there is a small delay as well but not like the iPad Mini.

First post I have seen about the Mini with iOS 7. How far have you gone with it as far as multitask, control center, new voice Siri, Safari, etc etc.

Thanks for sharing.

Controller center works fine. The little glitch animation when doing a four finger close is there. Nothing crazy. Overall it's running really smooth. I mean I don't even notice the difference between ios 6 and 7 now in smoothness. Safari is much quicker on ios7. I mean even the verge loads fine without stuttering for me. On ios 6 this wasn't the case. Haven't tried Siri. Messages and everything else is great. Loving this in my mini a lot.

Ah haven't really checked the wallpaper situation but it's running amazingly for me. How's it aside from the wallpaper situation for you?

Yup. Cingular didn't exist anymore when the iPhone released.
And the iTunes app didn't exist in iOS until months after the iPhone was launched. (1.1.1 maybe?)

IIRC, wasn't it originally announced through Cingular but it became ATT again by the time the phone actually released? Or am I remembering wrong? Good excuse to watch that masterful keynote again I suppose.

Not only icons are pretty ugly current design is far from apple's design developed in many years, its totally going to different way. Now it feels like microsoft or android..

http://visual.ly/ios-6-vs-ios-7

forstall's design was deep, dark and realistic. It was looking premium. Ios 7 looks childish and dodgy to me. The design itself got quite very simple with very pastel colours ,but overall user experience got complicated.

for another design failure i see is the circular geometry used does not appeal to me..

apple designed ios 7 for iphone 5C ,not for standard iphone.. it much suits to 5c..

no, i am not installing ios 7...

now back to ios 6 and happy, it already does everything i need.

Did anyone EVER mention (good or bad) the current icons, the ones they've have had since the first iOS? I really don't remember the masses loving or complaining about them. They just were there. We all got used to them (I honestly never gave them one single thought) and now that they're changing, it's a HUGE deal! People are flipping out. About icons. Really?

Were the old icons THAT great or are people just resisting change, like people tend to do? (I'm extremely convinced it's the second).

It is right that the icons were old and needed a refresh ,but not in a way like this making it very flat, no deepness, just like rainbow.. they could have improved from the previous design codes..

Re-Restore complete, all 'issues' remain.

Steps taken:

  • DFU mode.
  • Option+Click then browse to ipsw in iTunes.
  • Set up as "new" device.
  • Completed set up.
  • Option+Click then browse to ipsw on iTunes.
  • Set up as "new" device.
  • Disabled push notifications.
  • Disabled Motion.
  • Tested UI with Increase Contrast on/off - no change.

Yeah, iOS 7 has issues on iPad. These are:

  • 4 finger pinch gesture to return home results in a different animation to pressing home button and looks unfinished/rushed.
  • UI stutters when zooming in on app selected to bring to front on multitasking UI.
  • Not as smooth as iOS 6 when rotating from portrait to landscape and vice versa.
  • Wallpaper takes 14 seconds to change (static image).
  • Keyboard is less responsive, more so in landscape mode.
  • Shift key on keyboard has noticable delay between pressing and keyboard showing capital letters, etc.

Ok, try turning off Documents and data in icloud.....see if that does anything for keyboard lag.

I'm also staying on iOS 6 on my iPhone 5. The only thing that would get me to iOS 7 is a jailbreak before a 6.1.3/4 jailbreak is released. IMO, iOS 7 is hideous and its pros don't even come close to the cons. TEHO.

Many think they greatly improved (I just love the bright colorful new theme... it makes me happy to look at my phone). Obviously they can't please everyone unless they make it super customizable, and that's just not Apple.

The point is, the old icons were not *that* great (again, I never even thought about them for a single second). Now people are suddenly caring about it, just because they changed.

I tried to like ios 7 ,but it really does not help the fact that i hated flat and colourful design over deep sophisticated ios 6 look..

icons are inconsistent with all the 3rd party apps, i have over 100 hundered apps installed none of them have ios 7 wise design.

i think i will survive with ios 6 as much as i can..

i need a few stock apps from ios 7 i liked..

compass app is good, i liked the level bubble thing, is there any 3rd party app similar to stock ios7 compass ?

Cool. I'm not going back, no way. :p

Every time I look at iOS 6 I think of one of these:

Pretty premium, right?

I wasn't too fond of the design at first, but it's really grown on me after using it for three months. Once apps are updated to fit the new design, they're gonna look really clean and great.

Everyone has a different opinion though, and I respect that.

I liked the look of iOS 6 myself but iOS7 is the future. It is modern and fresh, and only bound to get better. There's just a point when you realize, you have to let go. :)

To the people holding out with iOS 6. No big deal, enjoy what you got.

It's alright. I find little issues here and there so I would say it needs some polish. Things I have seen issue wise with iOS 7 across various devices:

1. Music doesn't keep its resume spot when playing over Bluetooth. What I mean by that is if you get out of your car where you are streaming, then coming back, your music will not resume where it left off. In fact, it won't even resume from the playlist you were on. It sucks. May not be related to Bluetooth either.

2. Random crashes in the settings app.

3. Some lag doing various things like wallpaper.

4. Some apps lost features that were there on 6.1.4 and gone on 7.0.

I still like iOS 7. Just needs to be baked a little longer. I'm hoping by 7.1.4 it will be flawless.

Ironically I've still not gone back to iOS 6 since putting 7 back on for my little 'experiment' earlier.

I just like the look and features too damn much!

Only Apples influence, as part of their planned obsolescence to grab your money, says its outdated. You've missed the entire point.

Apple's fat & happy that you've bought into this thinking.

7 versions of the iphone & you honestly don't think it's even possible that it's outdated??? If not, what's the shelf life of the design... 10 years? 20? Or do you think it should stay that way forever?

My iPhone wouldnt downgrade from iOS 7 GM!

My iPhone would not downgrade from iOS 7 golden master for ANYTHING then I downloaded 6.1.3 from an apple alternative website and its restoring all the way through at the moment!!! :)!

All you do to restore via iTunes is go into DFU mode then click Restore in iTunes mate. iOS 6 is still being signed by Apple, so there's no issue with iTunes doing it ... but at least you got there in the end. :)

The iphone 4S is still available for purchase and is older than the iphone 5 so there goes your theory of "planned obsolescence".

From a software point of view it makes NO logical sense to stay on an older version of a software. "The icons are ugly" is not a legitimate argument.

iOS 7 brings better multi-tasking, background updates, new APi's so that you can use game controllers to play games, airdrop to easily share files with people near by. What Does iOS 6 give you? The best of 2007?

These "I'm not updating" threads are getting ridiculous and tiresome. You WILL update. If not now, you will be forced to later.

So are you not going to update any apps ever.. Or buy new apps?

Apps are already starting to be updated to look like ios7... The updates will start hitting more pegresivly after wedensday.
