I've got light bleed too, but my plan is to wait several months maybe a year if possible, and exchange it then. I don't want to wait in line again or exchange it now just to get a unit that's got more issues. In the meantime, I can use my iPad and enjoy using it knowing the replacement will come eventually.

That is petty much my plan.

A year? Do you realise how that sounds?

'This is not right but I know, I'll use it for a year'. A year? Are you off your rocker? :D

Why? You have a year long warranty. Just used the device to you felt the issue was fixed.

If every person that had an item they felt was faulty, used said item without returning for up to a year - do you think the manuf would be incentivised to repair said item?

Its like saying, well, I have bought my audi and the wheels wobble a bit but my warranty lasts for 2 yrs, I'll replace it next year....

Would you do that? No. I expect you would be at the dealers the next day. Why would you be at the dealers the next day? Because the item is faulty. Why are you not going back to apple now? Because you believe the replacement is faulty (which it likely is).

Do you see the idiocy in that?

So you think it is a better idea to take the item back for a replacement when the issue hasn't even been resolved yet?

I think a person that bought an item which had a fault would return the item. If the replacement was faulty then I would ask for my money back.

If that individual paid a premium price for a substandard item, just so he could have it, despite it being faulty, I would call that person a compromising fool.

To those mentioning warm screens on the service replacements or iPads without bleeding I can say that mine is warm(er) than the iPad 2s I had replaced due to light-leak. Also, I was in an at&t store today and compared it to the model and it was slightly warmer *SLIGHTLY* than the display iPad 2 they had. People looked at the comparison and everyone preferred the one I have. I have an OLD iMac that has a really warm screen (compared to a PC it sits next to with a cooler screen) and the service replacement iPad 2 I have is not as warm as the iMac and not as cool as the PC.. right in-between.

When I was comparing it to the display model at at&t it really made me feel even better about the one I have now. I thought I liked a cooler screen (my iPhone 4 is almost frigid) but I think my iPad 2 screen might be dern close to a perfect balance now.

Every iPad I've seen has had the backlight bleeding to some extent, including my first one. However, the bleeding on my iPad 2 is far worse and for $900 (w/ tax..) is pretty bad if you ask me...

Pressing on the bezel and side of the screen makes the left side bleed more/less depending where you're pressing. However the bleeding on the bottom, top, and right side doesn't change when applying pressure to the area at all.

Yours looks exactly like mine, I think I'm taking mine back to get it exchanged at apple next week, really sucks

And that is just what we said we are going to do. Return the item for an exchange when we feel the issue has been resolved. My iPad works fine so no need to rush in as the iPad has a one year warranty.

Ha! I'd follow the same logic with any other device, but since there is nothing (in my mind) comparable to the iPad2 on the market and the bleed is the only thing wrong on mine, it makes more sense to me in this case to keep it and enjoy the heck out of it. 9 months from now I'm going to walk into the Apple store and get a replacement with hopefully a no-bleed screen. What I won't tolerate is standing in line again and/or getting a replacement now that has the same or worse issue. Nor will I return it for a refund and be without an iPad, as it's now my go-to device everyday. What I tolerate even less are folks who fail to look beyond their own circumstances and fail to open their mind to other possibilities or reasoning.

Exactly.. where is cvs person now?

probably going through his book of insults before posting? who knows. or maybe he grew a brain and stopped being a genuine ass to people with an opinion. "NO YOUR OPINION IS WRONG." thats what his posts read as sometimes.

So I'm on my third iPad 2, and knock on wood this one has a perfect screen on it. The first one I had was really bad with most leakage on the left side. I returned that one as I bought it from Best Buy. Ordered my second one through Apple and that came with less light leakage then the first but still very annoying when watching videos. I brought that one into the Apple store they swapped it out and tested the new one and it's a perfect screen even at 100% brightness.

Right here. This article is written in the past tense. LG planned to have corrected in Q2. We are already in the middle of Q2, meaning that Samsung has already been providing LCD's for the current iPads, and you still experience the issue.

In addition, point out in the article where it states that LCD screens are supposed to be perfect without flaws? The article doesn't give a benchmark of what is acceptable or not acceptable LG screens in terms of light leakage to quantify the article.

Finally, if you truly think that any manufacturer of televisions, gaming devices, or ipads, is going to set manufacturing tolerances of LCD screens to 100% perfection, or they get thrown out, you are clueless.

If, out of every 10 million iPad's sold, just 0.001% are returned because of this one issue, then that's between 5 and 8.3 million dollars worth of inventory that Apple has to absorb. Multiply that by 10, which is where Apple would love their sales figures to be, and at some point this issue has to be addressed - either by tightening quality control or moving to a different display technology.

If they do nothing, it's a case of many thousands of people pissed off, and tens of millions of dollars lost.
