Went to my appointment…. They didn't have the same model in black and in stock, so was offered white then and there or to wait for new stock - I'm going to wait. Have to say, the customer service that I got was great, simply great.
Well, I picked up my replacement the following Tuesday - still had a bleed issue in one corner but I thought I would use it to see if it bothered me… it did. Although it seemed to be less than the previous unit, the severity of the bleed seemed to be vary a lot more depending on the angle, so when moving the iPad around (e.g. playing a game).

Got another Apple Store appointment and although I got the resolution I wanted (i.e. it would be replaced), the customer service I got from the Genius was considerably less impressive than last time - e.g. when he offered a replacement, he said that as it's a new product, there would be no guarantee that it would be better.

Anyway, picked a new unit up the following Tuesday - this time, it was brown box replacement, so they just swapped the iPad. This one is great - although I would say that in very dark conditions and at higher brightness, there is very slight bleed, these are not conditions I would be normally using the iPad and I was really only able to notice it when I was looking for the problem.

If, out of every 10 million iPad's sold, just 0.001% are returned because of this one issue, then that's between 5 and 8.3 million dollars worth of inventory that Apple has to absorb. Multiply that by 10, which is where Apple would love their sales figures to be, and at some point this issue has to be addressed - either by tightening quality control or moving to a different display technology.

If they do nothing, it's a case of many thousands of people pissed off, and tens of millions of dollars lost.

So 100 iPads are worth $5 - $8.3 million? you might want to check your math, son.

Have the iPad but going to upgrade to iPad 2. How long should I wait to avoid having this issue? June?

WOW!!!!

Just got my wife a 16 gig 3G. The worse backlight bleed I have ever seen!! Luckily she isn't picky and it isn't mine so well keep it.

I got a replacement at apple yesterday and it has very minor light bleed which I can handle...my first one looked like it had spot lights all around the edge

I heard that June 24th is the date on which the flawless ipad2s will begin shipping, so you should definitely wait until then.

I got lucky with mine. Didn't realize this was an issue, but I did test it out with 80% brightness and black screens seem completely black to me.

I just picked up my brown box replacement. I've done a quick check of it in a darkened room and it is a lot better than my original. It has no dead pixels and a small amount of bleed. There is some yellowing in one region which may be glue so I'll wait a few days then compare it with photos I took my original before I decide what to do next. I suspect I might ask for another replacement but am not sure yet.

There is no glue. This panel is not bonded to the glass like the iPhone. It's a defective panel. Take it back.

Ok I went to the apple store today because mine has 3 spots were I can see the bleeding the guy there saw it made pics and send it to apple India head office and he got a reply that he can go ahead and replace the device for me . The sales guy told me I would get only a iPad in brown box and if iam not satisfied with that screen also they will replace it for me again . They told me on wednesday evening I can come collect my device and if iam satisfied then they will take my iPad and replace it with the one which came in the brown box .
Do you guys think that the brown box replacement units are better ? Do they have the same lg display or the samsung one ? Did you guys who got a brown box replacement iPad 2 has no bleeding issue ?

My brown box replacement was bleed free--ironically, I exchanged mine for dust under the screen, not light bleed. My first one had a slight case of it.

Talked to a senior advisor last week to document my bleed issue for future replacement. He said that they will keep sending me iPads until I get one I find satisfactory. I got my first replacement today. Bleed free, no dead pixels, no dust, no uneven glass or home button. Overall very happy with the result. It was a brown box replacement express shipped to me because I have AppleCare. :)

Cool congrats for getting the perfect device I hope I too get 1 which has no issues . Will post here once I get mine.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuu

I haz teh bleeding.

Dammit.

Not taking it back though. Not yet anyway...

So after opening a case with Apple and waiting several weeks for the issue to be (hopefully) sorted out I can positively confirm that while in Tampa this weekend I was able to get mine replaced with a brown box special that had no splotchy light bleed as my previous one did.

It looks fantastic and Genius was very friendly and made the swap very easy. Good luck to the rest of you with the issue still!

I just got my replacement, I will say that it's ALLOT closer, but still not 100% perfect.

very minor light bleed. I'm still testing out the color temperature, however I want to give my eyes a few days before I say anything decisive.
