man i wonder what iPad im going to end up with. mine was just ordered this week. i guess ill see. im afraid it could end up with pixels or one of the weaker screens. guess i will see what happens. :\

I received my iPad yesterday (ordered online 17 days ago) and it has some light leaks. I guess they still ship them this way.

After reading (partialy) this thread, I think I will stick with it for a while. I can tolerate light leaks but won't stand dead pixels. And if the Apple store doesn't have supply to switch iPads right away I don't want to wait again for a new iPad that can be worst - there is no guarantee that replacement will be better...

As most people I prefer the brighter screens, which seems to be LG.

1-Is there a way to tell by serial #'s if its LG or samsung?

2-Is there are difference in brightness between the white and black ipads?

Thanks

Anyway about what I’m guessing is a Samsung screen – it is warmer but you guys are exaggerating the yellowness of it. Trust me – I am OCD about image quality. I think this is by far the superior screen – pictures and movies look night and day better on this screen than the previous blotchy (assumed to be LG) screen. Ok – the LG got brighter on the top end, but this does give much better colors overall and it is NOT yellow, the white is slightly warmer, but yellow is an exaggeration. I am very happy with the new screen and I wish you all luck on your hunt to get a “Perfect” iPad from “we know better than you” Apple.

Glad you got one you are happy with and agree with this paragraph 100%. My thoughts exactly.

Decided to take my chances today on getting a good screen. Got to the Apple Store in Manhattan Beach a little after 0800 and am first in line. I'm told that the lines vary wildly from day to day at this particular store, so I guess I got lucky.

Wish me luck on getting a decent screen...otherwise I'm right back here again.

iPad 2 32 - 3g light leakage and seal issue

My husband bought me an iPad for my birthday. He bought it at Best Buy last Friday. There were major issues with light leakage. I decided to try another one shipped from Apple since the Apple store is 2 hours from us. They overnighted me another one. This one still has some issues in the lower right and upper left and right corners, but nothing close to the previous one. They both, however, have a loose "seal" between the glass front and metal backing right near the headphone jack. Is this normal? Does anyone have an iPad 2 which does not have a seal which can be pushed in at that spot?

I am trying to decide if I should send this one back to Apple and return the one from Best Buy to the Best Buy store for a refund (I have another 9 or 10 days to do so). Or, if I should keep this one, and just do another exchange in the future - maybe even make the drive to an apple store.

Apple was extremely nice and each of the 4 people I have spoken with have fully acknowledged the issue.

Before I purchased applecare, they said it would be 2 weeks for a replacement and that I would have to ship mine back first. I purchased Applecare, and the next time I called, they would do an overnight shipping and free return afterwards so I could compare the two. They also said they will refund the cost of the applecare within 30 days if I decide to return to them and the other to Best Buy.

I went today to pick my replacement iPad 2 and this iPad came in brown box and it even had some light leeks not bad as the first but it diehard some leeks and the square on the home button was some what in weird shape not perfect in the middle I said iam not happy they said ok we will try and get another 1 for u ,they said maybe tomorrow they will get me my replacement or day after tomorrow . I have. 1 question when apple send a brown box replacement do they personally check if the iPad is super perfect ? Or they just put a another iPad and just send ?

Went to apple store today to get new iPad and the guy told me apple recalled a bunch of bad ones and they ordered me a new one. Said they would call when it was in, probably tomorrow.

Wow...this is disappointing

Received my brown box unit....display is not yellow it all...it's just dim. The brightness slider has no effect past 50%.

To top it off...the back of the device has 5 or 6 dings/chips. I'm just going to return this thing and rebuy in a month once they've sorted out these display issues.

So disappointing.

Is your screen darker on the left and right borders in portrait mode?

Well, that's one way to stop the bleeding..

It's still there, but only visible in a dark room.

Apple support refused to overnight me a unit without the $80 applecare plan.

I'm sort of shocked at the customer service at this point.

Damn...First in line and all they had was white...:( The good news is that I only wasted 20 minutes there. :)

Decided I'm going to order online because I just got approved for the 0% Barclaycard Visa and I'll have the thing paid off in 2-3 months anyway...

So close yet so far...LOL...

Just thought I would check with others...

My first iPad had a decent amount of light bleeding, after talking to a genius they replaced it with a new model from a brown box.

Took it home and the light bleeding is worse, but bearable so I talk to the guy who replaced it the first time and tell him I can wait I don't have to have a replacement now I just want it to work so if he thinks waiting would be better I can.

He goes in the back and comes out saying they have been told if a customer has already swapped out once and wants another one that they will not replace it they will just refund the customers money, no matter when it was purchased...

Anyone else get that answer? He did mention to call apple care though too.

I was told also only one swap was possible

at this point, I wish I could go back and collect my moderate light bleed unit....this new one is so dull and dim the light bleed almost looks better.

I'm probably just going to ask for a refund and order another one online....hoping for an LG panel

I just gave back my white iPad 2 16GB Wifi-Only, Bad condition. Was expecting so much out of this.. Any idea if SAMSUNG has replaced it? When will their LCDs lot being on sale?

Dont you mean a samsung panel? Or do I have this wrong? Haha

thought i could

Put up with it, but it got worse and worse till finally it was too much. Some of them go away in a day or two, but others brighten up. Unfortunately mine was the latter. Gonna keep sending them back till I either get tired of it, or I get a good one. Yeah apple. Oh by the way it is a not real problem unless you don't always look at the screen.

I just got a white wifi 16gb because i returned my black one to target and this one is worse than the black one i had! I am going to call apple care now to put a note that i complained about this. I wont be going to get a replacement for another month or two until this issue is completely gone.

I'm not trying to stir anything, but when we're talking about screen bleed, can we just keep it at that? It was hard enough to prove to people that the screen bleed problem exists, but now we're going on color temperature? facepalm moment...I'm as OCD as the next person, but at some point you have to give a little slack to apple. They've "fixed" the issue, but the fix now gives new symptoms, if thats the case, please start a new thread. One problem at a time hehehe.

aside from that, i'm still a little scared. I returned my iPad for screen bleed more than a month ago and just placed an order for another on on the 7th. Seeing that they're still coming to peoples door with screen bleed has got me worried that i should've waited longer.

Yes, you should've waited longer. I received mine yesterday and it has a bit of light bleeding. It is only noticeable in a completely darkened room, and it isn't any worse than the bleeding I have on my iPad1. The only difference is that it is uneven on the iPad2 which makes it more noticeable.

I think it's safe to say that:

1. The issue has NOT been resolved or at least:

2. Apple is (via the one-swap per person deal) trying to get SOME unsuspecting customers to accept these somewhat faulty displays.

I'll be waiting a bit longer before trying to buy again it would seem.

thanks for the heads up everyone. I got overly anxious when people started saying they got good screens with no bleed so I ordered. I won't cancel, however, its suppose to arrive late in the month and I'm not as anxious as I was before launch where I was counting down the days. If the newly ordered one comes in with screen bleed, i'm just going to return it and move on.

sad to say to, i didn't buy iPad 1 so I could just get iPad2 but man am I disappointed.
