Yes at the same apple store, got a refund as they had no stock but took my name and number to phone me when they have them.

I have been phoning them every day to see if thu had stock but not telling them who I am and they have not ha one single 64gig black in 10 days which is very strange. I am hoping the new 64gg ate going to be the latest batch from LG

Ipad 2 received may 7

I love the ipad 2 and the very bright display I have. Unfortunately, I saw the backlight bleeding which looks bad and round yellow haze on the top left corner of the pic. I called Applecare and they said they'll send me a Brand New product but "it might have used parts in it." I laughed and said thats a refurbished product. I was very angry and the representative told me that they only send new iPads to Applecare customers and that when I receive it, I can send it the old one. After a while, he told me to pay for a new ipad 2, and when I receive it, to send in the old one and they'll issue me a refund. Such a headache!

What do you guys think of the bleeding? Is it really bad or kinda bad?

My wife's 32GB White WiFi iPad which was bought on release day has considerable Bleed from 80% above. Serial Number DLXF. Will probably return it once things are looking better.

My 32GB White WiFi & 3G iPad which I ordered through the Apple Store on 5th of May and arrived today has very very minimal light bleed and is barely noticeable at 100% Very happy, :D it's a keeper. Serial Number also begins DLXF.

Pretty bad, I wouldn't keep it if that was mine.

Personally I would not accept that, however if you don't watch many movies on it or arent super bothered by it, I think you have the brightest / bluest display possible. It comes hand in hand with the bleeding from what i can tell so

If you like the brightness/blueness of the display and wouldn't want to deal with a slightly dimmer/warmer screen with no bleed, then keep it

if you can't stand watching movies on it then exchange it. but if you find a bleed free unit It probably won't be as bright / blue.

Good luck

Tobster3, please repost including the first 5 (not 4) letters of your two serials (this will tell us the week of manufacturing) so I can include them in the updated table. Thanks.

We vote with our feet. It's RIDICULOUS that people are even thinking about defending Apple. Their products should simply work flawlessly or they should recall the entire batch. As one of the largest corporations on the planet, they would be juuuust fine.

I'm amazed that people are so eager to get shafted by Apple.

If keeping flawed products is acceptable - companies will simply churn out cheaper and cheaper garbage and everyone loses.

Return the flawed pads and keep on them or just put your money back in your wallet.

I bought my iPad 2 from Target in early May, and it has noticeable backlight bleeding at both 50% and 100% brightness. Most of the bleeding is located along the left side of the screen (the top edge on the attached photo). I see it when watching movies or viewing web pages with dark backgrounds. :( The first five characters of my serial number are DN6FL. I have attached a photo of the bleeding. Is the bleeding bad?

Minimal Bleed

Hello... So I went and picked up a 64GB Black Wi-Fi up at the Sherman Oaks, CA store Wed. Serial Number DLXF8A for person keeping track.

There are no dead pixels that I can tell. There is a very slight bit of bleed along the left and right. The screen looks dark but seems lighter on the left and right.

From my perspective it isn't 100% perfect screen but 99.99%. What I notice is only because I know where to look and it is almost not noticable.

Compared to the other 4 I had this is just fine and acceptable. So I would say that they are getting better and either this is the best they are going to get or I probably just won't worry any longer.

I am concerned that the brown box replacement's I would get if I went asked a month from now would end up being a refurb instead of new.

Picked up another iPad this morning....DLXFP.

It's warmer than my others....but actually looks better. This is coming from a guy that likes ice cold screens ;) My last warm screen was dim, but this is actually brighter than my unit that I considered SUPER bright. Thumbs up there.

But the real kicker.....no bleed. There's some minor normal leak along the right side that is distributed, but I have to strain to see it at full brightness on a black image.

What's funny, is that the edges now almost seem DARK on a white image. Looks like they've made a real effort to lock down the edges to stop the bleed.

I'll be posting some comparison shots and video between 3 different units sometime today.

DLXFP looks to be the latest batch off the line from the chart above....maybe this is a sign of a change coming.

I received my replacement yesterday. No bleeding, but now, the long edges of the screen, are definitely darker than the center (it is not the angle to the eyes, they are darker). Quite noticeable when reading a webpage.

I wonder if this darkness is supposed to fade out (the infamous glue). Should I wait instead or returning it?

My 5th digit is 9 and its an ipad 2 64gb wifi. I bought it new at target on Wednesday. I dont have much bleeding. You can see my pics in the prevous post. I am happy with my screen but if I had to guess I would say its a samsung bc it has a warmer feel. My preference would be a cooler screen. Even though its warmer its very bright which i like. In some of the earlier posts it looked like the warmer ipads had a dimmer brightness. I am just guessing though. Would need to compare it to another ipad 2. What week produced is 9?

Thanks for that info it's appreciated.

One more thing did you originally purchase at the Apple store? If I purchase through b&h it wouldn't matter right I'd still be able to get it swapped and replaced via the Apple store?

Hi, Bobright...

Yes, I purchased my iPad at the Santa Monica Apple Store the morning of 5/13. Returned home with it. Checked for light bleed, and immediately made a Genius appointment at the Manhattan Village store (a bit closer to me) that afternoon.

Regardless where you purchased it, you are covered under Apple's one year warranty which permits you to bring it into the Apple Store at any time during that period. So, yes, you will be able to get it swapped and replaced at the Apple Store.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. There ARE good units/screens out there so hopefully yours will be one of them. It seems that there are more and more reports of good screens the last week or so...at least here on Macrumors.

Thanks Built hoping for the best...

How does it work if my replacement was just as bad and I wanted a refund - since I purchased elsewhere they wouldn't refund me would they?

I'm assuming they'd make me get a refund through Vanns/B&H or wherever I originally purchased?

Sorry for not clarifying...

Ipad 2 - 64GB Black Wi-Fi up at the Sherman Oaks, CA store Wed.
Serial Number DLXF8A.

So since it is early should I return or be happy I have an almost perfect one with barely anything noticeable? I would refund because I don't trust the brown box replacements.

Vanns told me that I can't return it........ Calling AppleCare. And I'm going to file a complaint with the BBB against Vanns. They sold me a defective product and said I have to deal with Apple directly. Wtf?

Vanns states that iPads are not returnable. I agree with you, though...Essentially when purchasing from Vanns, you are stuck with the iPad...because Apple will not refund the money you paid for the iPad to Vanns either.

You may have some wiggle room in arguing that when you click on the RETURNS POLICY tab on the iPad page, there is NO mention of an iPad not being returnable if opened. The only place this policy is stated is if you click on the general Returns Policy tab at the bottom of the page. Their site is inconsistent and incomplete in parts.

Well ipad number 3, better on the bleed front, more consistent with regular lcd crapness as opposed to yellow blemishes. Unfortunately couple of stuck pixels showing lighter than those around them, like a bright pinprick on any background other than black.

Returns to Apple Paris, didnt even finish sentence with genius before replacement was brought out (brown box). Apple know these ipads are crap, its just a question of who will not bother returning/refunding. He said they would be sent back to be dismantled.

DLXFF- all three. Wonder if its worth another switch, at least the bleed was only in dark, stuck pixels visible at all times :(
