Got a replacement and its.... worse! :(

Called Apple and asked for a advanced replacement, but I was told, after being on hold for a while, that they can't do it and that I had to go to the store.

So went there and they were pretty friendly and helpful this time, they quickly looked at it, said it was a rare issue (LOL!), and gave me a brown box replacement.

I asked the genius to check if it had backlight bleed and he went in the back and told me that this one was much better... well when I got home and checked it's much worse :(

So going to call Apple again and insist on a advanced replacement this time.

Mind if I ask what are the serial numbers (1st 5) of those two iPad 2?

Very sorry to hear your experiences. Hopefully, you'll get a perfect one the next time.

Good luck. :)

The moderator should close down this thread and delete it from existence. :(

If not, in a year or two, people looking for used iPad 2 on place like Ebay
will be asking some real hard questions. Would any of you buy a used
iPad on Ebay knowing that it may have backlight bleeding issues? :D

Those who buy used are typically less OCD about things like this.

Not saying being concerned about backlight bleed is OCD, but the driver for most used buyers is price.

Apple support rocks, going to pick up another replacement, fingers crossed!

FYI - The 1 iPad replacement only rule is not a corporate policy, they'll swap it as man times as needed.

Well third time is defiantly not a charm! Old one on the top and new one on the bottom, the replacement serial number is DLXFP as well. P-(X-TheMarkness-bad)

Called Apple and I got them to setup another repair on the replacement DLXFP I just got so now I have one going back to them and one on the way that will be here Monday; I'll try yet again and see what serial number I get when it ships. To those that think we are crazy good for you! I paid $760+ for this thing and on top of that added the $79 apple care plan and I intend on getting what I paid for. If I wanted pesky leaks I would have gotten an iPade or iPadd knockoff instead. I don't expect this level of crappy QC and building from premier price gouger such as Apple.

Pictures below (old one on the top, new one on the bottom). New one also had a scratch on the back! (tsk tsk)

There actually is an official Apple replacement policy:

Replace 1 unit - For sane people who have legitimate product concerns

Unlimited replacements - For the crazy ocd users who may come in and shoot up the place if you don't replace their backlight bleeding issue. Speak in a calm voice and agree with everything they say...even if you see no issues at all. Just get them out of the store so they can go in their dark room at home to watch movies with the brightness set at 100%.

Thanks for sharing this info. Didn't know about the above Apple policy previously. Appreciate that. :)

Oops you're completely right, sorry late night. The correct serial is DLXFN.

I went to an iPad 2 workshop today at the Apple store and I put black wallpaper on several of the iPads and looked for backlight bleed. I didn't see any, but maybe that was because of the store lighting. I tried various angles to see any light leakage, but could not see any. I just read through the thread and apparently some people saw the bleed with normal lighting in their home or in the Apple store. My question is, how difficult is it to see the bleed in an Apple store?

LOL...THAT was actually my experience. When I went in to replace my unit, the Genius told me that they would only replace once. I told him that that is not true, and that I will continue exchanging until I get a bleed-free unit, or else I will just get a refund then and there.

He went in back and came back and told me I was absolutely right...and even as I walked out with my (perfect) replacement, he reminded me if I had ANY problems, to just come back in and they would replace it again.

So, your tongue-in-cheek post has a ring of truth to it!

I went to the Apple Store in Charlotte this past weekend to get mine replaced and they were out so they had to order it.

My old one had some obvious light leakage on the left corners but nothing MAJOR.

Got the email that my replacement was in today so I went and picked it up. I downloaded a black jpg and went all over the sides in the store. Held my hand to block the over head lighting and really tried to get a good look. Everything looked great in store.

I get it home to normal lighting and this is what I found:

$830 for this? Unacceptable. Guess I'll be trying again.

Sorry to read about your bad experience. Hopefully, you'll get an iPad 2 with no backlight bleeding in your next exchange.

Good luck. :)

I really got to say Apple QC is really gone to meet demand and stock market.
I thought I'll finally settle with the 9th iPad, Now it turns out the glass is not propley glued to the body and now I get this sqeak/cracking noise when I touch or grip the iPad in the bottom corner......:(
Oh well back to Best Buy..
