Hello guys.. Here in Greece , Europe there is also a whole iPad community that copes with this specific ipad 2 problem. My personal experience after four replacements has left me with a little bit of bitter taste in my mouth... Every iPad that I have received up to today has a various amount of backlight bleeding.. The last device i've received ( the so called brown box replacement , I would say ,in my case " brown letter envelope " ) has a s/n starting with DLXFM and is the best so far iPad 2 I've ever experienced with minimal bleeding within "acceptable" limits.. However, I'm going to ask via AppleCare for another exchange betting again at this "casino roulette " given the fact that chime innolux gives us something to hope for... I really hope to get this time a sealed new device as I was informed last time by apple.. What really frustrates me is tha in every electronic store here in Athens all the demo iPads are carefully chosen to be bleed-free starting with DLX and a common response of all the supposed tech "gurus" of these stores is that the problem lies at the glue issue that hasn't yet dried.. Lol! one month and my 4th iPad hasn't yet dried.. Maybe i'll take it with me at Myconos for a little sunbathing .. Sorry for my desperate little manifest ..

Kalispera, Anton...You're right. That "glue drying" nonsense is a lie. I've been watching this Backlight bleed issue from the beginning...Got a bleed-free unit (DLXFK on 5/13)...The issue is a matter of design, and the fact that the iPad 2 screen is glued and not clipped. The manner in which the pressure is applied when affixing the screen determines whether that particular unit suffers from backlight bleed or not.

The fact that certain batches appear to be better than others (i.e. DLXFK vs DN6FN) indicates that, perhaps, in certain factories, on certain shifts, the workers are doing a better job of assembling the units.

It has been proven, as you know, that relatively bleed-free units are out there...some completely bleed-free and some with minimal bleed.

Best of luck.

Yassou! :)

This has probably been said before, but the Apple Store has told me that the policy for exchanges has changed. You are allowed to exchange your iPad, but after that you cannot exchange or return. If the exchange is still faulty then you are stuck with it permanently. I guess I'll have to keep ordering new ones now. The two week wait is getting really old.

I think that is the "line" they are told to give you. When I challenged it on 5/13, the Genius came back and said that I was absolutely right, and that I could exchange the replacement iPad again if there were problems.

I think they are trying to dissuade endless exchanges, but if challenged, they are told to work with the customer.

If Apple's supposed "iPad 2 only" exchange policy is not spelled out via signage in the store, on the terms and conditions of sale, and/or on the receipt, then there is no such actual "official" policy.

I had problems here in Northridge, CA. Specialist called a genius and both proceeded to tell me that light leakage is normal. They were trying to look at the leakage under their bright ass lights when I told them more than 5 times you wouldn't be able to clearly see it under lights and it affected me while watching movies in the dark. I had my last iPad replaced in AZ and advised them they were happy to change it. Genius then told me that it was a courtesy exchange by the AZ Apple store and they were not obligated to change it. I was about to blow up and punch him :D Anyway, I went home and called Apple Care and they gladly said they would exchange it, gentlemen I spoke with clearly said it was a "manufacturing defect and is being pushed as a top priority to exchange such units." I really wanted him to let me take it to the Apple store in Northridge so I could exchange it and have that same specialist help me out, but I had to ship it via UPS. Got my new one today, seems worst than the last one, out of warranty :/

Just a heads up for those in the norcal area...anywhere around san jose I should say, go to the VALLEY FAIR apple store. There and only there have I gotten the best service and no hassle exchanges. Seriously, I've been to almost every apple store in this area out to 75 miles out and can tell you from personal experience that the genius' at the valley fair store are a lot more friendly and understanding and this is 100% of the time. I've had coworkers who have been turned down for exchanges at other stores and I direct them to valley fair and they have been more than pleased with their results...also they've been getting their fair share of non-bleed units in. HOWEVER, the sales people can be jerks at this store, make sure to have an appointment and you'll be taken care of. I've gone through numerous exchanges with them and not once have they ever said there was some kind of policy for exchanges on ipads and how many you can get. Best of luck to everyone.

My second iPad 2 (which I posted pictures of earlier) is quite good with respect to backlight bleeding but it has a small yellow "splotch" in its upper left corner that's visible on light/white backgrounds. I suppose it might be glue, but I doubt it. However, this also iPad doesn't have any dead/stuck pixels and the backlight bleeding is okay so I'm inclined to just live with it rather than play exchange roulette. Sucks, but I just don't have the patience to deal with multiple exchanges especially when I know I'll be replacing this iPad when the next gen comes out.

We can only hope that the iPad 3 has screens that are of the same caliber as the iPad 1 screens were.

Just thought i would drop in here to see what the situation is, as i had an iPad 2 when it first came out but refunded due to horrendous yellow / backlight bleed screen (couldn't be bothered to do Apple's QC for them and go through multiple exchanges)...

I see Apple still hasn't fixed this at all several months down the line... what excellent quality!

I guess when the money is still rolling in on these devices what's the point...

i bought my iPad2 on ebay but got the screen problems like patches of light coming out of the bottom and a big path close to the top-right corner.
will i be able to exchange this at any apple store?

I know its been a while since I posted on here, but I just wanted to follow up on the iPad 2 i had that had 2 dents in the back.

Upon further inspection and research I found the teardown pics and low and behold, all iPads will have that little "birth mark" so to speak.

I have inspected the back of my iPad 2 with a fine toothed comb and found no dents anywhere. Where exactly are these?

No significant bleed here. Screen brightness is fairly uniform and there are no dead pixels or blemishes under the screen. :D

DLXFT serial number, whatever that means.

Hello... Have a friend from work that just received his IPad 2 64Gig Wi-Fi he ordered online from Apple.

It is almost perfect. A tiny bit of yellow tint in the bottom right corner. A small bit of light center bottom and left bottom edge. So consider it good.

Serial: DLXFT

I finally got mine shipped back to Apple, which was a pain in the rear. I live in Okinawa and there is not a UPS store here and Apple does not receive or ship to APO or FPO addresses. I sent it to my Dad's house then he took it to UPS! Anyway, mine (White 32Gb DLXFF) had (has) very significant / borderline severe bleeding pretty much around the entire screen. Worst in the bottom left corner and entire right side. I was surprised with an email today stating the following:

"Our technicians have performed full diagnostic checks on your IPAD 2 and have been unable to reproduce the symptom(s) you reported when you requested service. As a result of our tests, we can confirm that your product meets Apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality."

By the time I read the email my original unit was already enroute back to my Dad's house for him to send back to Okinawa for me. I guess my iPad was routed to the Apple technicians at The Lighthouse for the Blind! I envy those of you that live close to an Apple Store.

Hope you all have better luck getting what you paid for than I did. :(

you know this is borderline ocd what i'm about to say, so please go easy. I put a zagg cover on the back as well as front. I had the ipad face down on the floor and noticed the reflection on the back of the ipad, "oooh pretty." Among admiring how shiny the back was with the skin on, the reflection had a little bit of bubbling near the apple logo, about an inch to the right of the logo. again if you don't have the skin on it, you probably won't see it or feel it, it was pretty darn minimal but it bugged me, did a little research and found that those are the mounts for the pcbs in the ipad. but again, this isn't related to screen bleed...it was just a follow up in case anyone was wondering what happened with the dent on the back of that perfect screened ipad i got a couple weeks back.

iPad 2 screens

Hello all! I had a iPad 2 with significant light bleed but the whites on the display were WHITE! I got a replacement with very little light bleed but the whites are a bit warm/yellow. I don't know if I should call apple for another replacement or should I just accept this one. I'm still shocked how the two screens look different....it's as if I hve two different tvs!

BTW I posted pictures in the previous posts about two days ago. Check the iPads out.

do you guys think that this is bad?
LINK HERE

yes sir, that does look bad. looks like you got yellow "glue" and flashlighting on the bottom there. honestly, you don't really need a black image to see it, if you notice it in a youtube video or something, then i would consider making a trip or giving apple a call. just my 2 cents.
