Ok people....months later you seem to not get it. Most if not all iPads have this "bleeding screen"! If you purchase one, more than likely you will have it. You can be indignant and shocked at how Apple has put out a product with this issue! Bottom line, it's there. For the people who do not have this issue, it's perchance. This thread has turned into an almost laughable hodgepodge of ipad sherlocks searching for the holy grail. I mean you have come up with theories on certain numbers and codes to follow this holy grail for the perfect screen. On occasion, some clueless person walks into the store and gets one of these 'perfect' screens and post the pic...the rest of you drool over how such a rare diamond has been found. You sniff the box to see if it smells different. You lick the screen to see how it taste. You look at it from all angles to see how this special one has been found. Personally, it is to the point that this thread is one big show. Keep entertaining folks....you all should have oscars lol!!!

You sound bitter.

Turns out mine has some bleed, but it's unnoticeable during normal viewing in either light or dark environments. If I crank the brightness, state at a completely black background and tilt the screen to extreme angles, I can make out some bleed in the bottom left corner.

So I think I'm keeping this one. No dead pixels, the screen brightness is nice and uniform and the unit shell is flawless. I think that most of you guys are a little too OCD for your own good.

I am annoyed with this thread, but I identify with these guys. I've gotten two good screens in a row, but my issues have been with gunk under the screen. My first iPad 2 had some large white flecks of dust under the screen and a very miniscule amount of bleed. Apple exchanged it "as a courtesy this one time"--I complained about the dust, not the bleed.

My second one has a screen that's about as close to perfect as I've seen as far as the bleed. If you hold it under direct flourescent light, there is some junk stuck to the glass, like some little gray dots. They are not visible when the screen is on, and they are almost never visible when it's off. The LCD has a dead pixel near the edge that is barely noticeable and in a place my eyes never seem to go, because I usually forget it's there.

For all intents and purposes, the screen is a good one. I could let the little stuff bug me and end up trudging back and forth to the Apple store and calling Apple Care and dealing with shipping stuff back to them. But I went through that with my iPhone 4 and all its issues. And for a long time I hated my iPhone 4 just because I didn't find it a trustworthy piece of hardware. I got a good iPad 2 on my second try and I'm sticking with it until something is actually wrong with it.

MUCH better!

I picked up an iPad 2 when they first came out and the screen bleed was terrible. I ended up returning it. I picked up a Black 64 GB 3G today at the Apple store here in Altamonte and it is now what I would consider very acceptable. The brightness is at 100%.

Serial number starts with DN6FTB for those keeping track.

Looks perfect to me. Apparently, you can't go by the serial numbers to determine if it's likely to be imperfect or not. Hopefully the manufacturers have made a change in the production to correct the backlight issue.

here is the one i picked up today in best buy, towson, md.

what do you think, i notice just a little bleed. but nothing to worry about i think? 100%/50%

No problem at all you should be happy I would if in your shoes, got my 3rd one today and all have been bad to this point. I mean I know there might be some uneven lighting and maybe a bit flashlighting but when its so bright that you can see these flashlights in broad daylight at 50% brightness that's just unacceptable.

I'm about ready to just call it quits but going to give it one more go.

smh

...hey, look at the last week (T). That's the reason of the table... seems Apple is finally doing something.

(*) X-user-bad, means 'X' is factory DLX, '6' is factory DL6, 'T' for factory DQT and 'P' for factory DMP, all taken from the first 3 of the serial.
(**) 4th character is half of the year. Will be 'F' for first, 'G' for second half.
(***) 5th character is week of manufacturing from previous table.

ps.- If your serial# starts with DLXFP. You have an iPad2 made at (DLX) factory, is made in the first half of the year (F) and on week 20 (P)
ps2.- post your first 5 characters of your serial and if you have a good backlight or the bleeding problem.
ps3.- any error in the table?, let me know.

from week 23, it's ok, hope so!

and from pics from many people, non-bleed screens seem to be darker than the bleeding one :(

100% Brightness

70% Brightness

Serial Number DN6FR - No Hot Pixels

Do you think is a keeper ?

Keep it!
But I have a question, in the 1st pic, what is the thing in the middle of the screen? Prob with camera or "bleeding" in the middle of the screen :p

I suppose this is the reflection of my face in the glass or some sort of aberration caused by iPhone 4 camera.

i wonder how long it will be before we see massive issues with non apple ips displays, now that so many are coming out.

The screen bleed on my asus transformer makes my ipad look like it's perfect

Quick question. If I go to the apple store saying my iPad 2 has bleeding shortly after 14 days will they give me a new one or will they just give me a refurb?

I just got a DLXF7 from Apple.com (ordered 5/25, recd. 6/10) and there is very slight bleed to the right of the Home button. I tried getting myself to hate it but just can't - it's indiscernible under real world conditions, so count it as OK.

Strange, though, it seems I got a week 7 iPad. Re-manufactured, perhaps? In any case it's perfect other than that very slight bleed that I failed at getting upset with - no physical marks scratches, no dead pixels.

Black 32GB w/3G (AT&T)

Still waiting for Apple to call me... lol its been 2 weeks no since they just sent back my iPad rather than replacing it and promised to get it sorted...

oh BTW to the people who purchased from Best Buy how are they as far as returns go no hassle money back? restocking fees?

Other than asking for ID when you return stuff.
I didn't have any problem returning defective iPads.
