FINALLY replaced my launch day bleeder today 6/30/2011.
Local Best Buy was getting little stock but I tracked a 32GB Wi-Fi Black this afternoon and bagged it.

Serial DN6FX

No light bleed on this one.
The color temp is slightly warmer.

I am much more satisfied with this one even though it took 3.5 months.

Best Buy will accept "Manufacturers Warranty Exchange" on iPad 2's.
It's printed on the top of my receipt.

This means a return of a defective iPad 2 within one year at the Best Buy it was purchased and that includes light bleed.

Just bought my iPad a couple days ago at Target. Serial is DN6FX. There's only a teeny tiny amount of light bleed along the left side, not bright at all. You have to look for it to notice it. Guess I lucked out!

Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon... I just tried it with a completely black screen in a completely dark room. It looks worse than I thought, but I can live with it. I don't see it during regular use.

Edit number 2:

Just looked at a bunch of the f-ed up screens in this thread... my goodness! Mine is nothing in comparison. At least one side of my screen is perfect:

(excuse my neurotic edits.. I just can't stand when new devices aren't perfect)

Here's mine - DLXFW. 100% brightness in a dark room. It's a little worse than the photo lets on, mainly along the bottom and in the corners. However, it looks pretty acceptable to me. Would appreciate your opinions, though.

This is not that bad. I'd keep it. In the end, it really depends on how much that will bother you.

Got back from the apple store.

Good news is I got a good iPad on backlight bleeding

Bad news is it has 3 dead pixels

This ones going back

For the record though W-Macdude2010-Good

UPDATE: went back to the apple store and they had to order me a new one, post back in about a week with results!

I've got some mild edge bleeding on my 64GB AT&T 3G iPad2...I only see it when watching movies in a totally dark room so it doesn't really bother me too much...
Now, would I like one that doesn't have ANY bleeding for the nearly $900 I spent on the iPad2? Of course, but from everything I am hearing and reading the chances of getting a perfect one on the first exchange aren't good and I just can't see going down to the Apple Store 3 or 4 times to try and get one...
If it was REALLY bad, like a few of the pictures I've seen then I'd give it a go, but mine doesn't interfere with my daily enjoyment of the device so I'm gonna sit tight with mine...

Oh, and I agree with post about LED not being the ideal technology for displays (at least the cheap LED's that are found in most of these devices)...I even have a good amount of LED flashlighting on my Sony NX710 3D tv and I have returned two of those for the same reason and I STILL have the issue on the 3rd unit...I think the current LED technology is about done anyway. I've been reading about the newer 'Hyper-Real" LED panels now being built with WAY improved LED lights and no more of a battery drain than current technology and it certainly appears promising...LG's new LED technology looks interesting as well.

My iPad 2 white 64gb wifi looks great(I upgraded from the 32gb that I had that had major screen bleed problems) this one the bleed is VERY VERY minor, you just see a tiny drop of it on the left hand side its a huge improvement over the other one, but I do notice when I went into a dark room when its booting up that for a second, just a split second, you see a silver dot on the screen then it disappears after that split second and everything looks great..I saw the same thing happened on the old iPad 2 as well so I dont know what it is just wanted to make sure that its Ok

I have a DLXFW as well, and it seems to be close to perfect! :D
It is a black 32GB Wi-Fi/3G

Here is a picture of mine with brightness set to 100% in a dark room

thanks=) i'll update as soon as i get it. had to go through 2 to get the first acceptable one , needed another for my aunt so i had 2 more failures hopefully this one's good. bleeding i can live with as long as its minimal but no dead pixels... it seems to be my curse

you might get something better since it seems like people are getting better units now. but you might also end up with something worse, i guess if its not too much of a hassle you can try to return it then compare in the store itself which unit is better then take the better one home

I know. But are they getting a swap when they get an better ipad? This ipad. Did come in last week so its new. It is hard to compare in the shop becuse it ismso much light in the shop. I have contacted the shop with email and asked for a new ipad. If i have to send it in to repair i will not send it

oh okay, i usually go to the dark rooms of the shop like in a storage thing wen i check, the staff thinks im strange. haha. you can try the jacket over your head method if you really have to compare in the store.

Hehe. Maybe i shold take a trash bag with me. Lol. I hope i can return in on monday for a new one right there. If they want to send it in to be swaaped. ( can take 2 weeks) i might wait 3 months and then send it in. This bleeding on this ipad is not that bas as it loocks on the photo :). But when i pay for a product i want it to be perfect.

I will come woth an update on monday:)

You simply return it for a refund due to defect, NOT an exchange. All stores do that. Then, you just buy another one.

HEADLINE: Lightning Strikes Second Time, After Hiccup

Well, as the week ends and the new one begins I want to bring you up-to-date on the acquisition of the second iPad. In my post #3311 I gave a review of my wife's 64GB-ATT-White model. Virtually perfect! NO light bleed (at 100% brightness in a dark room), etc. See post for the complete picture .

So on Wednesday morning I called Best Buy in Wilmington, DE (the tax-free Mecca around here) and was told that they had just gotten in 19 black 64GB-ATT models. I said, "Nineteen???", very incredulously! Yes, he said, 19! After work, in the early evening, I went down there and snagged one. They had only sold a few of the others all day; had like 15 or 16 left after my purchase.

Got it home, put up a BLACK screen and no light bleed, just like my wife's, just as I had hoped! Or so I thought.

But next morning I realized that I had forgotten to set the brightness at 100%---it was only at 50. So when I boosted it to 100 and looked at it, no good: there were blobs of light around most of the edges! Well that's going right back, I thought. Serial number: DLXFX (bad).

I called and they still had three left. Sold a dozen (!) after my purchase the evening before and first thing Thursday morning! Three left! I asked the girl if she would hold one for me, but that I couldn't get there till 7:30 at night. They are reluctant to do that, but she said she would since she would be on duty the whole day. And she did too!

Went and got it, took it home, set the brightness at 100% this time and: PERFECT! NO LIGHT BLEED (or any of the other problems) on this one. Search over! Serial number: also DLXFX (good). I got the last of the 19. WHEW!

I've had three now, and they all bleed to one degree or another.

That's the bad news since it's really annoying.

The good news? iPad 3!

Coming soon to an Apple store near you... I'll be there, cash in hand, will you?

Why would you do that? You don't even know what new features will or will not be on the next iPad nor do you know its price.

Most importantly, if backlight bleeding bothers you so much, it's probably a good idea to wait a few weeks once iPad 3 is out, so that you can make sure the issue has been resolved before you buy it.

Making the decision to buy now with "cash in hand" is just stupid
