Ick. I had a launch day iPad 2 and returned it because of the backlight problems.

Im sick of waiting, im going to bestbuy tomorrow and im coming home with a freaking tablet lol. But frankly its 161 page long threads like this that are making me lean towards the Tab 10.1. It just looks to me like apple isn't going to be getting their act together here.

Hehe. Maybe i shold take a trash bag with me. Lol. I hope i can return in on monday for a new one right there. If they want to send it in to be swaaped. ( can take 2 weeks) i might wait 3 months and then send it in. This bleeding on this ipad is not that bas as it loocks on the photo :). But when i pay for a product i want it to be perfect.

I will come woth an update on monday:)
I've made the Light Bleed Checking Tool (mention in my #3236 post). Just make sure you make it out of some thick, dark paper (manila folder paper is too light). It's very small and portable. I've made one and plan to use it as soon as the local Apple store has the model I'm looking for. :D

no bleeding but 1 dead pixel, didnt get it. arg.. its w.. and it still has dead pixels.. will try again tomorrow

I have some bad backlight bleeding on my launch day iPad. Is the Apple Store good about replacing iPads with backlight bleeding or are they picky about it? For those who have had success, are they replacing the whole unit or just the screen?

If money is burning a hole in your pocket, why don't you buy 2 shares of Apple stock and wait for iPad 3? Financially that would appear to be a far better decision than purchasing a product you think is flawed. And haven't you heard about the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and all of it's light bleeding problems? Maybe you should do some research...

Galaxy Tab Light Bleed

Apple isn't going to "fix" a product over one thread on Macrumors. It's going to take massive media attention and a heavy hitter like Consumer Reports to get behind this issue in order to have any hope of an official response from Apple. I bet you didn't even contact them, did you? Who else in the media have you contacted? Given the fact that the Galaxy Tab is just as "flawed" as the iPad 2, I don't think you are going to have any options out there.

So relax and save your money, or invest it.

I went ahead with a replacement whilst still retaining my original (DMPFV).

Comparison:

DMPFV left DN6FR right

Although the DN6F (right iPad) has stronger bleed on the left hand edges, the screen is much more uniformed and doesn't have the yellow patching of the DMPFV (left iPad)

Refund!

Store mgr said defects go through apple..

Originally I meant that if you opened it and found it defective, they'd have to take it back. But the manager seems to be contradicting that. IF that IS Target's policy (seems weird to me, to have to take it somewhere else; I would think that would be their job, to return it to Apple, instead of having YOU run around), but IF that IS Target's policy as the manager is implying then just call Applecare or take it to an Apple Store. This is, of course, if you open your "X" model and find it defective. Apple will either refund or replace it. Hopefully, if you open it, it will be a good one!

If you 'chicken out' and don't open it---and take it back sealed---Target WILL refund you. They HAVE TO in that case for sure.

So did you open it? If so, what's the verdict? I had three "X" units from the "DLX" factory; two good and one bad (see my posts #3311 and #4000). I'm done now and my wife and I are VERY satisfied. Hope it works the same for you! :)

Target will take it back sealed.. In fact they will take it for 90 days.

I spoke to the guy in electronics who said Apple does not want target taking back any opened units and said that if too many came back via target stores, apple wouldnt sell them there movng forward. (doubt this is the case).

In any event, if i needed to exchange a defective unit and there was stock, id get an exchange. No stock, a target gift card for $665

will try again today. hopefully it gets better, unfortunately it seems like my search will never end because now my dad is planning to also get one and hes asking me to get for him. arggg...

Okay...try number two - white 32GB WiFi and...

...bleeding is very acceptable. Very little at high brightness and really none at normal brightness - even in the dark.

Serial number: DQTFF

As an aside - I bought the white because the black was out of stock and I have 90 days at Target in which to return it. I'm loving the white (which is surprising me).

The whole iPad feels much better than the first one I bought about 6 weeks ago. The screen is the same color balance (cool) and looks amazing. The only minor issue is the headphone output volume is noticeably lower than my first one which is strange.

At any rate, I'm pleased and will be keeping this one for sure.

This was almost exactly the situation I had with my second and third iPad 2s. The second one was great with respect to screen bleed but had a very non-uniform screen to include a yellow splotch in one of its corners. My third iPad is worse with respect to backlight bleeding but is also almost perfectly uniform. Since I notice the uniformity issues far more often than I do the backlight bleeding, I decided to keep #3.

i can't believe it, another unit with a dead pixel, for the one keeping track W-bad 2 units 2 dead pixels.arg

Returned mine over the weekend for bleed and glass separation.

DLXFW - very minimal bleed and no dead pixels, screen is also more of a bluey white than the really warm screen I had on the last.

All 5 units I had had dead pixels and light bleed, I gave up and will just wait for the next version now.

Still got an iPad 1 for now.

are they all black? or color has no connection? the shop is offering me white but i kinda want the black. wanted to give up but i was able to get one wifi unit only with small bleed and no dead pixels so i still have some small hope of getting a second unit with no dead pixels but a 3g one this time.

We ordered 20 iPads for a museum were we are currently showing a project and all of them have (more or less extreme) backlight bleeding problems so don't get your hopes too high getting one without.

didn't say bleeding was the problem=) my problem was and still is dead pixel. the w units had very minimal bleeding unfortunatelly they had dead pixels. did your 20 units have dead pixels?

Sorry didn't check them for dead pixels but the three units we got here don't have any dead pixels afaik.

lucky=) i'll give black one more shot then im switching to white, i don't think it matters but maybe i'll have better luck with white haha
