Probable Cause

That must be the sweet spot as if any bleed occurs, it's usually right there.

There's a lot going on at that spot: the home button and the dock connector are both there. I wonder how well-supported that area is? It may be more prone to pinching/flexing, and thus more bleeding, than other areas of the bezel.

My 64GB 3G GSM model has the same serial prefix as yours (DLXFW) and it looks almost identical to your pictures...IMO, this isn't enough bleeding for me to return it...I watch a TON of video on this thing and I hardly notice it unless I'm looking for it and even then it's hard to distinguish...I only REALLY notice it when I use the black screen to check it..
I've had MANY backlit displays from phones to computer displays to flatscreen tv's, and no matter the brand (Sony, Samsung, LG, Apple, Pioneer) there has been some degree of bleeding or flash-lighting if I REALLY looked for it...yes, some worse than others, but thus far, my new iPad2's slight bleeding has not been an issue...
well i just got mine and immediately took it to the bathroom at work with the lights off and switched it on. bleeds still and i have a scratch on the glass screen abotu 1cm long and the top right corner of the glass is chipped.
this is going back!

Could you post pictures?

Hm, I actually didn't want to post anymore in this thread, but I would like to ask people this: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1181934/

I wonder how many of you have that problem? IMO that's a bigger problem than light bleeding as it can be seen even at low light intensities and on a white background. That's just me of course, I use the iPad about 90 % for reading stuff on a white background so this annoys me.
If you guys don't have that, I am going to exchange mine. If it's very common on all iPads I guess I'll have to live with it, I really don't wanna exchange more than once.

Would be nice if you replied in the other thread, but if you'd rather keep it here, that's fine.

i am getting a new swap fraom apple on friday and i am selling it to get the 32 GB modell. i had the white one.

white or black? witch modell is it less light bleeding on? i want the white modell becuse i think i can get more money when i sell it next year in white pleas help me

what do you guys think?

this is better then having light bleeding on the sides. you dont see this on movies. but when they are on the sides you will see it all the time:p

does the black models have more defects? seems like a lot of the people posting have black units

Well, just picked up a 64gb black wifi model today and gave my 32gb wifi model to the wife.

Suprisingly, this ipad is perfect. No light bleed and no dead pixels.

Serial number begins with SDN6FT... Looks like a good batch.

2 things, one, is the serial SDN6FT or is it DN6FT, and two, can you post pictures?

I decided to keep this current one and put on a screen protector, as i was cleaning the screen for application.

Bam, i found a small chipped on the aluminium body where it meets with the display glass..

Sigh wanted to keep this one but dont think i will be happy to accept that.
I could refund but its a gift so has to trouble a friend, and it has to wait a few days for money to get back into the CreditCard.

Worse thing is the apple store has no stock for replacement. Made an appointment with the Genius tomorrow , do you guys think they will have small amount of stock for replacement? (brown box, They are pretty much new as well right?)

Dont think i can use the gift card to purchase an ipad in another store e.g. Best Buy.

My plan

Here's what I'm going to do,

The replacement iPad I got is very good on bleeding with only a few tiny spots on the left side with brightness 50% or higher (which looks like it could be a design defect because people with good iPads always have a little bleed on the left side) now I will stick to this thread over the summer and into the fall, if people get iPads with absolutely NO bleed (not even a spot) at a constant rate then I will exchange with help from the AppleCare senior advisor that has been helping me since April.

Besides, I have been through 3 iPads and this one is much better then the other 2 and I have tested a few family members iPad 1's (purchased april and august of last year) and they have more bleeding then my iPad 2.

(See my post on page 162 Post #4029 for picture)

Did get my new 32 gb white ipad today. Its worse then my 16 gb. So now i have 2 ipads returned an waiting for the replacement. Woho

well, went to the apple store to get mine replaced. i didn't ask the guy if he checked it. initial check outside the store looked ok but on the way home, i noticed a manufacturing scratch (hairline) on the back.

anyway, this one has light bleed as well.
serial DLXFG78

freaking hell... i don't know whether to bother or just keep this... plus with this stupid news about a new ipad???
i wish i never bought apple products! it seems just a constant race to keep up with them! i am running out of money! lol

Update:

My replacement iPad screens backlight turns on about .1 seconds before my screen does, it has only about a second delay from actually pressing the button to it turning on, anyone else have this?

.1 seconds, as in 100ms? I can't help but wonder if people are actively trying to find issues with their iPads.

I am fairly OCD too, but some of you really need to re-evaluate your priorities. :)

I don't notice that issue, but I didn't notice the light bleed, either, until I read about it.

Well I guess it's more like .5 seconds, it annoys me, I'm going to go to the apple store when i get the chance and test the ones there

i'm going insane...9 freaking units counting the 2 today and only one with no dead pixel or dust or orb inside the screen. some bleeding i can live with, i dont even check for that anymore. but these units 5 of them had a dead pixel. different production week, and 2 diff model, 64gb wifi and wifi3g. all black though i dont know if that matters.
what the heck is wrong with me haha. why do i keep getting crappy units. i tried from 4 different sellers, 3 legitimate resellers and 1 online guy who was very accomodating he opened 2 units for me one had dust/black dot not sure if dead pixel and one had a dead pixel. arg. i use this link to check

Ok, seriously. If you've been thru 9 units, why are you not just returning it? THat's the definition of insanity right there. Obviously the ipad has light leakage as part of the way it's designed and it can't be remedied 100%. You must really like your ipad to put up with all that. After 2 I would have returned it for my money back and waited for the next gen.

because im not the only one who's going to use it, so even if i get fedup my fam still wants another unit. and as i said im not talking about backlight bleeding which you said will always be there im talking about dead pixels
