How are there not thousands of refurb iPad2's availble in the Apple Store? Sounds like there have been a multitude that have been returned so what are they doing with all of them? They can't resell them as new so they must be doing something with them....

Reassemble them to hopefully "get rid of most light bleeding" & let them find their way to their new brown box packages for warranty exchange/replacement?

i'm going insane...9 freaking units counting the 2 today and only one with no dead pixel or dust or orb inside the screen. some bleeding i can live with, i dont even check for that anymore. but these units 5 of them had a dead pixel. different production week, and 2 diff model, 64gb wifi and wifi3g. all black though i dont know if that matters.
what the heck is wrong with me haha. why do i keep getting crappy units. i tried from 4 different sellers, 3 legitimate resellers and 1 online guy who was very accomodating he opened 2 units for me one had dust/black dot not sure if dead pixel and one had a dead pixel. arg. i use this link to check
http://www.ipadmalaysialabs.com/ipad...d-pixels-test/

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you've gone through 9 iPads then you have way too much time on your hands.

yup=) im not taking it the wrong way i actually do have time, im a grad student and i only have 2 subjects everyweek thats why my family chose me to be the errand girl when it comes to finding ipads for them. and most of the shops are just an hour at the most away from my house. i just cant believe it. i mean ive had bad luck before. and i know when im being too oc, but this time its a dead pixel. its not a tiny scratch or anything i mean people have gotten ipads without one, so why cant i seem to find one. one seller was extremely nice and offered to open the replacement unit and check for me before delivering it to my place and then voila he sent me a message and that unit had one dead too. so weird..

Anyone else have a loose home button?

The replacement I got last week has a loose home button and when you tap on the lower part with your nail it makes a clicking sound

Could you see if yours has it?

Nope I've been through 4 iPads and all were actually very tight and snug compared to my iPhone 4 on the other hand that thing is as a loose as hell. I'd get it replaced if I were you.

That must be the sweet spot as if any bleed occurs, it's usually right there. My second one has a very slight bleed at the same spot, with no other spots, so I elected to keep it. My first one had an extremely bright spot at the same area that was very noticeable when watching movies. If it's not too noticeable when watching movies with a dark background, I'd say keep it. Otherwise, you might get one that is much worse.

I have one with light leakage in the same spot. I decided to to keep too or the same reasons

I have 14 days to decide, but this is my keeper (DN6G1), some minor spots along an edge, but under normal conditions for me, they're not noticeable. I actually have to go into a dark room to notice them.

I have to agree, the camera does make it look worse than it is.

------------ SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR (serial# ---G-)

1 week 01 (6-HughMann-OK)

(*) X-user-bad, means 'X' is factory DLX, '6' is factory DL6, 'T' for factory DQT and 'P' for factory DMP, all taken from the first 3 of the serial.
(**) 4th character is half of the year. Will be 'F' for first, 'G' for second half.
(***) 5th character is week of manufacturing from previous table.

ps.- If your serial# starts with DLXFP. You have an iPad2 made at (DLX) factory, is made in the first half of the year (F) and on week 20 (P)
ps2.- post your first 5 characters of your serial and if you have a good backlight or the bleeding problem.
ps3.- any error in the table?, let me know.

Just want to post my thoughts on the topic at large-

I ordered my white iPad 2 the first hour of release- it came with SEVERE backlight bleeding. I immediately noticed that when pressing around the bezel by the various areas of bleed, the bleed would become worse/ go away in different spots. As others have said- this is an issue of design and manufacture, not faulty display panels. I will wait until a redesign and when I have some spare change to buy (hopefully) iPad3. I suggest others do the same if they value their time and sanity.

success!!!!!!! 12th unit! no dead pixel or dust!!!!slight bleeding but i dont care! wohoo! w (x)-good

Alright guys, I think I've finally reached the end of this screen bleeding debacle. The story goes: my original launch day ipad 2 (16gb white wifi model, the only one available after I had waited in line for nigh on six hours at an apple store which had a line some 400 people deep) had severe backlight bleeding blighting the entire 1/3 left of the screen. that was exchanged a week later for a unit which for all intents and purposes was worse because while the bleeding was slightly less, it was distributed in an uneven pattern around the entire periphery of the screen. so that went back for a third replacement, which to my luck had only moderate bleeding at the top left of the screen, but was found to have no less than FIVE dead pixels near-center. I was beyond po'ed and at wit's end by that time and sold it, deciding to wait a month for things to clear up with apple's QC issues. Well, a month later I finally found another 32GB black wifi ipad 2 at a target which I drove 2 hours to get to, and guess what, again it had severe backlight bleeding issues visible at less than 50% backlight and with 2 dead pixels. needless to say, that was promptly exchanged for another ipad at a different target. again, screen issues, no dead pixels this time, however there was now a hefty dent on the top right bezel and the digitizer glass seemed to be separating from the case (huge gap was visible on the top). returned it at that point and was resigned to wait two months this time around to see if things would clear up by then. well, finally caved and bought another 32gb black wifi off of some scalper dude on ebay around June, and screen only showed moderate bleeding this time around. everything was working as it should have, until the home button STOPPED RESPONDING. no amount of hard resets could remedy this issue. again, that was exchanged at the apple store for a brown-box replacement, with "7/1/11" stamped on the side of the box and with serial number DLXFQ. thought I had finally come across a good unit when yep, I discovered three dead pixels. well, today I exchanged that sucker yet again and to my relief there are now NO DEAD PIXELS, MINIMAL SCREEN BLEEDING, NO DENTS OR WARPING OF THE CASE/DIGITIZER PANEL, AND NO HOME BUTTON DEFECTS (YET). now there's news about an ipad 2 HD WTF

Well unfortunately my minimal bleed iPad needs to go back to the store because of lines on the screen when waking from sleep and also because of the home and volume buttons are loose, I didn't want to get into this whole return thing, but now I think it will pay off in the end

I returned my first ipad2 and got one with worse ... i mean really bad bleeding. I will find that # and add it to the list.

Then I got #3, it was minimal bleed but the case had a ding in it....

#4 was great, no light bleed at all.... it is DLXFW

Hello guys i had my second ipad2 from apple store online
My serial no. is DN6F my brother in law send me some pictures about it because i dont have right now it arrived at san antonio.

here are 2 pictures

the first looks like the blacklight bleeding its not good but teh second almost looks like nothing.

Having the serial no. and the pics with your experience changing more than 2 ipads2.

Do i need to change it, somebody from applecall told me they are going to ask me about the serial no. DN6FT. So thats mean they know some ipad2 suck compared to others.

So like user512 post, all the serial for weeks and factory i didnt get it very well, so.
Somebody told me is it good or not?

Besides I am thinking of change it and waiting for the iphone5.

How do you see?

P.S. i just bouth it recently May 27 and it arrived at san antonio until June 14!!

I got an iPad for my birthday last week, and unfortunately my iPad also suffers from the backlight problem. Even thought I didn't pay for it, it still bothers me. Especially that big spot on the bottom of the screen. I'm thinking about asking for a replacement, what do u guys think?
