Here is my blacklight bleeding at 100% brightness. At 50% it is not visible. Since I normally use my ipad at about 35%, I'm not going to worry about. I've already placed a skin on it, so it's a keeper at this point.

Can anyone clarify this for me. As you know you have 14 days for the return period.

As mine has backlight bleed, if I wait say a month for a new shipment will I still be able to get a brand new one?

If not how is the 14 days monitored, for example could I take this one back in 13 days then get a new one, and then would I have another 14 days to get another one if that was faulty too?

As long as its under warranty Apple will exchange it. The 14 day return is to return it as in get your money back and have no iPad.

Went to Apple Store today, get my third replacement ,same issue (noticed at home). The guy from Genius Bar said to me that all of the iPad 2 have this issue more or less -really genius statement, but still they replaced it.

First is one from today, second one is replaced at sunday:

Ridiculous

I went to the apple store today to exchange my iPad due to the bleeding and the sales person told me all of them have it and it's called "shadowing.". What a joke. I pay nearly a grand for this and it comes standard with flaws and then they try to market it as fine.

Edgelit/Backlit Monitor Screens

Do you know what really undermines your argument? The fact that you keep spouting about how edgelit displays exhibit this behavior. That may be true, however if you look at the iPad specs, it states that it is backlit:

Will you show where you did your research indicating that it's edgelit?

EDGELIT IS BACKLIT! A look at this video will show you why (and how it works explains that statement):

http://geekbeat.tv/how-an-lcd-monitor-works/

Either the panels are grossly defective straight from the OEM's or Apple specified some kind of change to have them be thinner/lighter, which change is causing the problem. Tight mounting is another possibility. Hopefully, Apple is looking into all this now, and we can hope for MUCH better QC and iPad 2 shipments in April and beyond from Hon Hai.

Now I noticed that I have same thing on my iMac...I never noticed durning almost year of usage, and for sure I will never noticed on iPad 2 if I not read about it somewhere. So now I decide keep my 3 replaced iPad and forget about it.

Ok, yes, I understand that Edgelit = Backlit, but Backlit <> Edgelit. All I'm asking is where is it specifically indicated that the iPad is using edgelit lighting or what?

Yeah that is at 100% here's it at 50%.

Good heavens. That looks like an IMAX screen with the lights at the bottom.

Does someone wander up with ice creams half way through.

I could not live with that. Awful. At least its only 600 quid :D:D

I guess that's why some refer to the backlight bleed as "stagelighting" :D

Really looks that way with most of these units.

Mine was a lot worse. It looked like the imax lights were all pushed to one corner so the popcorn vendor could wander about. It was awful.

This was an issue with iPad I correct? If so why does anyone think that Apple will make a mid production change to fix this problem?

Not my ipad 1. Perfect.

Not any of the ipad 1's I have seen. The lighting was uniform on them all.

When opening my ipad 2s, and the 'I need itunes' pic is displayed it was the first thing I saw. I was convinced that they had been dropped, such was the problem.

I have never seen this on any ipad 1 I had.

Ah ok. I thought it was pretty widespread. the first time I powered up my first iPad 2 I saw the light show and it bothered me.

Welcome to the VERY large club. It comprises of 2 types of people. People that see the problem and act on it and people that are in denial. We are ALL currently members though :D

Just spoke to my Apple store on the phone.

The woman told me that it's not a defect and it's because the brightness is set high when in a dark room etc and turning the brightness down should solve it but I told her even when the brightness is turned down it still shows up for me so she told me to book an appointment to take it in so i'm off to take it to the Apple store today and see what they say.

They all have it. Its poor manuf/QC/design.

In terms of tech, we are about 5 years post this sort of problem. Apple need to step up and sort the Foxcomm fellows in China out. This is all very poor.

I had mine changed at the Apple Store in West Quay, genuis confirmed this issue. We checked the replacement in store and found the same problem. Genius recommended keeping it and then exchanging in a month or so when new production batches start coming through. I have an acknowledgement of the problem and the genuis gave me his business card for future reference to the problem when I return with my Ipad in a month of so (if I think it is still necessary).

And not on my iPad 1 either. I'm extremely picky with backlight bleed and uneven backlight illumination and my iPad 1 has an almost perfect display.

This reminds me of a few years ago when pretty much all MacBook pro 15" exhibited bad backlight bleed and poor uniformity. Even today the MBPs have bleed, but they are relatively cheap TNT displays. The iPad is a small IPS display and shouldn't have this issue. I agree with those who think it's all attributable to the thin design and the screen being pinched around the edges.

Let's hope Apple takes care of this problem quickly.

Ok so lets assume that Apple takes steps to remedy this issue in a month or so and we start hearing of new iPads without a hint of backlight bleed. What's going to happen when there is a rush from those who care not to have a 500 plus tablet that has annoying bleed? Are we to expect a happy handover (OK that sounds a bit weird but you know what I mean) of brand new iPads?

I cannot imagine Apple being willing to replace thousands of iPads for backlight bleed.

They might only replace the ones they determine 'bad', while other iPads with minimal bleed will be 'in spec' and not be replaced.

Apple is trying to figure this out as we're reading this forum.

That is not my problem. I will simply go and buy a new one. Hence returning the current one.

Failure to act at this stage will make your future argument weaker.

For me, a 600 quid investment, at minimum, requires a screen fit for purpose. If for example my 1k+ macbook did the same, that too would have gone back in a shot.

It didn't and it is fit for purpose. I wanted to say porpoise but I resisted. Awww crap, I didn't :D
