Got mine replaced yesterday.

This is the original:
iPad1.jpg

And this is the replacement:
iPad2.jpg

To be honest the replacement actually looks a lot better in real life than it does in that photo and it is certainly an improvement over the first (even though it may not look it in the photos!). This still might be going back depending on how much it annoys me in the coming days.
Both photos are in a dark room on 100% brightness, the only things really visible in the replacement on my normal brightness setting (about 50%) are the two corners on the left hand side.

I've seen 2k-3k+ imac likes this, nothing new here as this has been a ongoing issue for several years! As long as the law doesn't come down on Apple they will get away with it.

Sheesh. Not much better. Ther Apple for me is a bit less shiny these days.

Replacement still has bleed and now a "wonky" home button!

Being collected tomorrow and sent to Apple Relations Ireland, they want to pass it onto their "engineering" team.

I'm having a new one shipped, see how it goes.

Still keeping an eye on this thread hoping to see more leak-free posts. Notsomuch. Poster with a portfolio heavy in Apple stock is entertaining as ever.

Currently using an iPad 1 I picked up from BB. Screen is gorgeous with no bleed. Yes, if someone wanted to go way-out OCD light can be seen at the edges but it's NOT the random splotchy bleeding like I had on 2 iPad 2s. If my iPad 2s looked like this iPad 1 I likely never would have been a part of this thread.

I do have to admit that the 2 is faster and I would like to go back to the 2..when Apple gets their $&@# together on the screen.

This thread is hilarious. You guys put your iPads in situations you'd never encounter in the real world (who uses full brightness in a dark room?!) then complain when it shows some minor defects? Come on.

I don't think you've read the countless people who see it under your so called normal conditions. Now that I think about it what's wrong with wanting to have the brightness up if that's the way that person chooses to use the iPad? Some of you people are amazing and I don't mean in a good way.

Exactly....

I would wager more than a fair share of people enjoy watching movies on the ipad. I do, and even at 50% while in a dark room it's annoying as hell. I'm not going to change my viewing preferences to mask a product defect.

Please read the posts in this thread before writing complete rubbish.

The issue also present where the brightness is 50%+ and in a room with very little ambient lighting, the present of no light is not a requirement to replicate the issue.

How do you watch a movie, let me guess with the lights on!

My iPad 2 had this one annoying spot of back light bleed. I decided to take it in and see what a genius thought. They took my iPad in back and came back out about 5 minutes later with a brand new wrapped iPad.

He asked where I got it, I said Best Buy...he then proceeded with the exchange and my new unit is almost perfect.

They must not have refurb iPad 2's yet

I've got to say, I'm leaning more and more towards just forgetting about the light bleed and enjoying my ipad.
My white 16GB wifi definitely has it along the home button side, but I can only see it at 50% brightness when on a near-black screen in the near-dark.
Yes, if I'm watching movies on Netflix with the lights out, I can see it. But, it's either improved over the last week or I've just gotten used to it.
90% of what I use it for (browsing, calendar, email, etc.) during 90% of the time I use it (in at least a moderately lit room) does not show the problem.
I've got no dead-pixels, no other weird build-quality issues...
Unless Apple acknowledges a guaranteed fix (very unlikely), then I'm not going to bother swapping. I've already called Applecare and gotten a case number, so I've at least made them aware of the issue.

According to Apple Relations they said I was given a refurb, which shouldn't have happened etc, so they're swapping it for a new one yet again

Oh, possibly then that local store was just out of refurbs. I was pleased though to see it new in box.

I'm not sure if it's the photos or what but some of the bleed posted in this thread is horrible. Mine was nothing like that, still bugged me a little, but I could of lived with it if they turned me away. It's wasn't that big of a deal to me.

I never used my iPad 1 nearly as much as I use iPad 2.

Exactly, exactly.
Watching Netflix or Hulu in bed at 50% or less brightness is not abnormal usage. No way in hell I'm buying a product, largely marketed for video/movie/TV show/younameit consumption and then putting up with splotches of bright lights protruding randomly around the screen.

I have to assume as well that someone has done more scrolling than reading of this thread.

The Apple Forum removing posts now about screen bleed

Looks like Apple are starting to remove posts they don't like over on their support boards with regards to screen bleed.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13367874#13367874

Someone mentioned going to the press and also something about current screens are LG and they are moving to Samsung screens and a few mins later the posts were gone

I wouldnt be surprised if the people on their boards saying how their pads are perfect and the bleed is a "non issue" are actually Apple staff...

Ipad 2 3g 64gb here.. in london UK

I have the backlight bleeding, its pretty noticeable especially by the home button while playing movies. Its not really nice after dropping 1000$+ (659£) on this thing.

These things just came out - how likely is it that i'll get a refurb if i go to the Oxford Street store for a swap out?

Also, should I just wait, hopefully they will sort out the screens?

I remember 3 months after getting my Iphone 3gs i swapped it out, and the guy told me basically they were still all new models, they just have them in black boxes at the store for swaps.

Ie when these new things come out the first 3-6 months they are all new ones, just shipped in black boxes to store for replacements, along with the retail packaged ones shipped for first time buyers.

I'm not Apple staff. I wish I was though.

How's that wonky home button you were complaining about?

People in glass houses...

It looks like they just killed about 25+ pages of that thread. Just happened as I was able to see 38 or so pages just a few min. ago and now there is 12 (I am logged in). Good thing most taking part have the emails backup their comments/discussion.

I know, its a longshot but maybe they are starting to take this a bit more seriously and might acknowledge the issue. Did someone mention that they a changing screen manufacturers from LG to Samsung ? this is interesting if its true.

Yes they did "I read recently that Apple has signed a 240 million dollar contract with Samsung to produce 3 million more displays for the IPAD 2. LG is the original manufacturer."

Dear DXXX,

Apple removed your post on Apple Discussions titled "Third Ipad2 Return" because it did not directly ask or answer a question. While your post may have technical merit the current incarnation does not fit with the Terms of Use, which state:

Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer.

... 25 pages apparently were not in-spec.

This is interesting. So, Apple does have a pretty big issue on their hands.

Is BBC going to report on this? I thought a post above said something to that effect.
