This thread is hilarious. You guys put your iPads in situations you'd never encounter in the real world (who uses full brightness in a dark room?!) then complain when it shows some minor defects? Come on.

Are you this stupid in real life? Or only when you're in front of a computer screen. Just wondering. By the way, your post made me laugh too, I mean come on.

Yes they are articles that they are buying screens from samsungs. Also contacting bbc watchdog or a similar organisation to apply some pressure and make it a known issue like the verizon 3g issue which is going to be fixed with the 4.3.2 update.

I tried to search on google for said articles with no luck.

There are no articles that I can find as of today that indicate that Apple is purchasing more LCD screens from Samsung. Can you provide a link?

Heres a good read about the display issue:

This about lg and samsung making the displays. Could it be due to the different manufacturers making the displays. http://www.freecontractphonedeal.co.uk/blog/lg-and-samsung-ipad-screen-shipment-numbers-are-big

I see what you are saying, but there is really no proof that Apple is purchasing these displays because of the light leakage.

There is an issue with some of the screens on the iPad 2, as evidenced in this thread and others on other sites. I just don't think this is concrete proof that they are reacting to the issue.

I guess we have to wait and see.

I've thought about contacting the consumerist website with this thread. I'm not sure what the powers that be on MR would think though.

I don't think it has to do with the LCD screen, I think it has something to do with/during assembly.

With that said, I heard that the reason Apple recently ordered LCDs from Samsung is to ensure enough (extra) supply of LCDs.

The funny thing is that I do use my iPad in the dark on full brightness. I tested to see if I had backlight bleed because of this thread; turns out I do. I honestly have not even noticed it in any use since then and I have it a 100% brightness all the time.

Agreed, I believe to its an assembly issue, my theory is that one of the top layers, either the glass or top frame is being "SMOOSHED" down to hard and the glue sealing it that way, thus putting to much pressure and .. light leaks.

If your brave, put pressure on the frame near the edge of the screen, you will see it makes the issue worse.

I wish a firmware update process is going to fix this fail...Not to be negative but I sat through a phone call with AppleCare where they insisted I reset and wipe my device...I nerd raged on the tech...this had to be done to proceed lol...

To whoever is commenting they see this on white screens I didn't yet notice this.

I hope if they recall the fail screens, and I get a moderately usable camera...this camera should be an embarrasment anyone that had to do anything with implementing a useless camera its way way worse than any modern day cellphone they should be walked out the door.

I guess the camera is another thread

I agree the camera is worthless. Seems like an after thought addon, very odd?

I never planned to use it but after take a couple pics they should hav never included it

The cameras are really only there for FaceTime, for which they are perfectly adequate. The still camera capability is an afterthough though, clearly.

I thought FT camera was very grainy as well. Seems they could have made it a little better:(

lets be honest, the cameras will be upgraded for the next one, steve-j sees an opportunity to milk us yearly for upgrades.. simply put there is zero reason they didn't put 3 mpixel cameras on this thing, other than an excuse to upgrade to IPAD SUPER HD 3 next year (RETINA DISPLAY + REAL CAMERAS!)

I love my ipad 2 but apple's strategy is pretty transparent by now.

To get back on topic - anyone know if Regent Street has Ipad 2 replacements?

I've booked an apointment tomorrow at 5:20PM for a ipad 2 swap in hopes to get one without a backlight bleed problem. Will let you know if they're in stock.

Let us know what they say on the whole subject. I took mine back for a refund there week or so ago. Wonder if they had many returns?

Be great if you get one with zero issues, as i am waiting for new stock with little/no bleed to come in and then will go there and buy again.

I done the same. Ordered one from Apple online as well after I returned it just hope they have fixed the issue with the 2-3 weeks waiting time for the order to be shipped. If not I won't bothered getting it replaced I will just get a refund and either wait again till I hear anything about it if not probably just either wait for iPad 3 next year or buy an iPad 1 for now.

suggestions?

hey guys,

i ordered my ipad 2 wifi 32 GB on Mar 11 and it was shipped on Mar 27.

The body itself is flawless and no dead pixels, but I am getting some light bleeding and wanted suggestions on what to do...

1) was thinking of returning it for full refund; or
2) do an exchange at the apple store

the only crappy thing abt my situation is that i already placed a SGP screen shield and best skins ever back shield...

here are the pics! opinions would be appreciated it. the photos were all taken in a dark room with 100% brightness on a black photo.

honestly... at this point i'm too lazy to do anything abt it... haha :(

What's it look like at the brightness setting that you like?
