What's it look like at the brightness setting that you like?

i usually put it like 60-70... honestly at that i don't notice a thing. that's why i'm thinking of just holding onto it rather than go through with exchanges/returns and getting a crappier one...

I HATE U APPLE. why can't u be perfect as we expect u to be... haha jk :apple: <3

Keep it.

On my iPad2 at the setting I like I have the tiniest hint of it in one spot. It bugs me but it's the best I've found so far in the merry-go-round of exchanges. Unless I hear of a major change I'm keeping it

thanks for your suggestion! i'm kinda leaning towards what you've said...

did you get a chance to look at the photos i've uploaded though?

oh and what brightness level do you usually put it at???

So, my new iPad has a bit of bleeding. It's not the worst I've seen but if there were plenty of iPad 2's in stock and I could easily walk in and exchange it, I would. Since they are hard to come by, I don't want to go without waiting for a replacement that could be worse.

That said, do I need to call Apple and "register" my complaint so that a couple months down the road, I can get it exchanged? Is the kind of thing that can only be swapped out under the initial 14 day return policy or would this be covered under the normal one year warranty?

Sorry to tell you guys this, but it's very normal for the iPad. I own a marketing company, and we supplied every one of our employees with original iPads. Literally every one of the 322 we passed out had the problem. Every. Single. One.

If there are people out there who claim to not have it, they don't know how to look. I think 322 is a pretty good sample.

32GB Wifi only iPad 2 (black), two major sources of bleed on the left side and bottom left corner.

32GB Wifi only iPad 1, ZERO bleed. I even retested after seeing the bleed on my brand new iPad2 and it's night and day difference. On the version 1, full brightness completely flat black screen compared to the bleed sources on the iPad2.

I don't know if I should try to drive the 45 minutes to the nearest Apple Store and hope they have one in stock to replace mine or just live with it. It's only noticeable in dark with 25% or more brightness setting, which I don't typically do in darker settings.

I would call. You can swap it out for a so-called new one or refund within 14 days.
After 14 days you will get a refurbished model. Just as good though. I think.

iPad 2 - Still no relief

I purchased the iPad 2 on launch date at a local target store. I bought the 64gb wifi white model. I had obvious bleed issues that night and noticed it before seeing forums on the issue. This was at 40% brightness in a semi-dark room and normal usage. I completed two exchanges at the local Apple store with no fix. During the second exchange, I got Apple tech support involved and have been working with a case manager. After the 2nd replacement with no fix, he offered to send a brand new one in box and recommended switching to black just to try it. He threw in a free smart cover black as well. I agreed and the black 64gb wifi only arrived today from China. It still has obvious bleed at 30%-40% brightness. I am contacting him but unsure on what to do from here. This is the 4th iPad I have been though, and they all have had obvious bleed. I also believe this is a widespread issue. I wanted to say thank you to everyone on here who has posted and kept me informed. I am sure there are many others who have not posted but are able to track things. I may try the guaranteed replacement in the future once the issue is resolved. Any other thoughts?

My update:

Just got off the phone with Apple. I called in for a full refund.

They e-mailed me with a fedex return label.

No restocking fee...

Sad to let my baby go...

I'll think I'll buy a new one around early May.

When I went to the genius bar the guy helping me was really nice and offered to replace mine, but then talked about backlights to me and talked about the light leaking as though it was normal and would happen on any iPad I got. He basically told me that my replacement would have the issue too, just in different spots..I think I'm going to return mine and probably buy one in a couple months. I find that I'm not using my iPad much at all..

also does anyone know if any stores are still selling the original?

I wish there was a way to relieve some pressure on the screen. This is whats causing this in my opinion.

Images and Call with Apple

I just got off the phone with Apple again. My 4th iPad still has the bleed, and it is just as bad as the 1st one from launch day. Attached are the images at 30%, 50%, and 100% brightness. They are telling me that this case is well known and will be resolved in 3-4 months. They are promising to replace with a brand new iPad once it is resolved. Not sure how I feel about this.

I personally can't see anything wrong with that one. If it really looks like that picture I would personally stick with it.

Ditto.
I'm sure you've tested it further since posting that pic, but I'm willing to bet that, even in a dark room, once even a letterboxed video is playing on that screen at 50% brightness, you won't notice those spots. They look a lot more like "shmears" than the "spotlights" on some of the bad ones.
Still, would be nice if they were all perfect!

I had the same spotlights on mine as well as a little bleed over the home button. My concern really is that the spotlights are white while the corners are a little yellow (from the glue?), wondering if the glue will fade, if so, the spotlights are the only major defect that i can see on your screen. My girlfriend just got hers in today, NO BLEED!!!! BUT, theres a big but, it has yellow splotches around all 4 corners.

she literally turns to me and says "is that some kind of feature?" lol, no, its not. Hopefully the glue will dry and that yellow stain won't be there. I said she lucked out cause at least there were no white bleeds on the screen, just that yellow.

I've got a corner that has that yellow look but I don't think it'll go away. I have a feeling it's more of diffused light leak. I'd rather that kind of leak because it disappears very quickly when droppingnthe brightness.

Hi- Can you see the bleeding under "normal" conditions, say at 50% brightness indoors, during the day, or indoors during the night in a room that is lit? Do you notice it surfing the web, on all applications, only sometimes, etc? Thanks.

I agree with the yellowing and lowering the brightness. Id much prefer that instead of white spotlights along the bezel.

Well...unfortunately after a little more movie time with it, I saw a dead pixel lol. I'm not as upset as I am humored over all of this. If it isn't one thing it's another, so pick your poison. In any case, were sending my gfs replacement iPad back lol, we also sent comparison pics to apple and the guy handling her case to see what they'll say. At this point, like I said, I'm really just over it, I got one with light bleed...really bad and exchanged it a couple times over, my exchange units were either similar or in some cases had other issues, like constant restarting. At the end of the day I returned mine. My gf bought hers with mine and didn't notice the bleed until she was watching aliens on it. You don't watch aliens in a lit room, that's for sure, so she did see the bleed. She sent pics to apple and AppleCare came to the rescue. Fast forward two weeks later to today, we received the replacement and seemed like it would be fine until we noticed the dead pixel...while watching aliens lol.

She's pissed and I'm sitting here laughing...not at the fact it's another defect but just at the thought that this is pretty damn bad. We're just two people and we experienced the worst of the worst, I feel, of bad mfg iPads. What are the odds?

Anyways, she's passed her 14 day return window...I said ur pretty much SOL at this point and take the 800 dollar loss. Apple won't refund her either, even though they played the stall tactic on her.

Good luck to the rest of you folks, btw, aliens is a good movie to bring up when talking about screen bleed. The movie is generally dark so brightness will have to be up just a tad. Oh yeah and before some people go flying off the handle that it was 100 percent brightness in a closet, it wasn't. Aliens is a dark movie, if you lower the brightness you lose a lot of detail in the film. We were in a room with the blinds half opened and she was watching aliens when she noticed it. Not like going into a bathroom and turning off the lights. And brightness was down to a little over 50.

What your opinion about the bleeding on my iPad

Hi guys,
This is my first iPad and I really like it. Like everyone, I notice bleeding issues as shown in the attachment. The image displays a black picture on iPad at 100% brightness. The bleeding on the top-right of the image is the one that never goes and can be seen on a black background even in normal light conditions.

Do you think its worth trying to replace this iPad or I may end up in something worse?

Thanks for your help.

nah, yours is minimal.

For those who have gotten replacements, is the Genius Bar swapping them out for a new iPad in the retail box (with cords, manual etc.) or are they doing the brown box replacements?

does the brown box mean they are refurb?
