Guys, I need advice. This is mine at 100% in a pitch black room. I notice it when watching films/youtube at 50%. I have to travel to another city to swap it and its next to impossible to test it inshop. The photo makes it look maybe 5% worse than it is in person...what do you think?

this is really terrible. too many spots all over the edges with bleed. RETURN IT for a full refund. then buy one from apple.com.

that's what i did. returned mine this week and ordered 32 GB wifi black on apple.com... will arrive may 4th

Ya thats got issues, definitely return/exchange. However.. call apple care and get it recorded that you will get a replacement.. dont bother with replacing it yet as your chances of getting a better one are slim to none at this point.. could even get one worse.

Word on the street is apple is aware of the problem and will have new units in a month that are fixed. Use yours till then, then spend the time to hike over to the apple store for an exchange, with no hassle as the "exchange" is already in their system on your account.

I ordered a White 16GB Wifi yesterday, expected delivery may 5th. I will post what happens then to see if apple started fixing the problem only way to know is if the ones being delivered are getting better

I done the same thing. Returned my old one for a refund and ordered another from Apple online. Thought that in the 2-3 weeks it takes to be shipped they may have fixed the problem. My delivery date is May 6th.

Agreed, but I feel that with most people, the problem is there is too much brightness adjustment, and that can be fixed in firmware. The people that are saying that their monitors and TVs don't have light bleed, are they sure they have LED back lit displays, and when they turn the brightness up to max, is it as bright as the iPad's display ? (Yall do turn up your other monitors to 100 brightness, right ?)

I have seen several post in this thread where people claim they don't see any back light bleed, but ask how do they test for it, they then come back on and say they have bleeding and inquire about exchanges. These guys don't have back light bleed. My iPad 1 will show bleeding at brightnesses that require a wielder's hood. Since I don't want to damage my eyes, I don't use the screen at that brightness, (I use minimum 95% of the time.) therefore, I consider my iPad perfect and bleed free. Really, what more do you want.

Better tech but I can wait.

My question is (and I have no idea what the answer is here) do the other tablets out there have this kind of issue? I'm not talking about different shades of black on a dark or black screen but obvious what's that dude doing in my bezel shining a flashlight up on my screen type issues?

Ok, I have to quell this crap about brightness and eye injury. This is pure BS.

Please provide me your source. The increased brightness will lead to fatigue and dryness but does not damage your eyes.

Just like readingbthe dark will hurt your eyes. Oh yea, I'm an ophthalmologist.

Next I use my iPad at about 35% and the bleed can be see with videos. Yuck.

I was thinking of doing that. I didn't realise it was that bad, by comparison. I'll call em back (they logged the complaint), and confirm I want to swap but will wait a while. Many thanks!

Heres my ipad 2 which i returned to PCWorld after having it for only 6 days.

That looks crap tbh. The halo at the lower side is terrible and the ones of the left are so inconsistent.

That is the key problem here. If the bleed was uniform it would be acceptable. It isn't. It's all over the show, completely random and consequently ugly to look at.

Lol and this was the best one we got so far. Hahaha. Yeah I made sure people were able to see that it's not a pitch black room, nor is it on 100 percent...and I was reviewing a movie.

yea that's pretty bad. good thing u returned it.

the only thing i worry is that apple will adjust these and send it back to manufacturer and repackage this as new... that would be heart breaking.

I went to return mine to the Apple section of the bookstore I bought mine from and they wouldn't let me because I had opened it.
Everyone else here who's returned their iPads because they saw backlight bleeding had to have opened it before returning..what is this nonsense

return at an apple retail store.

I just got a fax on behalf of my girlfriend, apple sent her a written confirmation that she can exchange anytime due to light bleed...I said wtf I thought they weren't owning up to it...in any case, she made an appointment to go exchange today, I'll post pics when I meet up with her.

I got my replacement today from Apple. I decided to give 'em the benefit of the doubt and not get a refund.

My previous 3 units had bad backlight bleed. Surprisingly, there is no backlight bleed in the new replacement. I know this is a new unit as it's what they promised me and it did take an extra two weeks to receive. So either I got lucky or the new units beginning to roll out are not having the issue.

I'll take some pictures later and post them.

would they let me do that? I doubt it..wouldn't they just tell me to go back to where i got it from and return it there? since I didn't buy it at an Apple store

i think for an exchange you can take it to an apple store. if you want a full refund you will prob need to take it to the store you bought it from.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I have a question for everyone who called Apple support for a case number, is it just a nine digit number? no other numbers associated with the call that I might confuse it with..?

1st, lighten up. There is such a thing as intended exaggeration. No, it won't make you go blind, but at 100% (mine) it's unusable because it is way too bright. Look at the post one or two post before you, gives a pic at 100%, which is meaningless because he stated he uses it at 50. Says he noticed it at 50, so why not post the pic at 50% brightness? I also said most people, not all. I am not saying that you don't have light bleed.

heres my girlfriends replacement...again, shame, this is at 50% as she was downloading wallpapers before going to bed...I guess the black space background was a bad idea:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/42195243@N04/5623462819/in/photostream/

She's done, by the way. Settling on this cause she's outside the return window. sound the price is right fail horn!

Forgot to mention, it actually gets worse at different angles, and gets kinda hot really fast...like dangerously hot. Feels like your putting your hand next to a lightbulb. I just advised her to let it cool down for a bit, i think she was using it for a couple hours lol.

Odd, I use mine for hours at a time and don't experience that kind of heat.

lol, just realised that although I noticed some backlight bleed coming from 1 corner of my new iPad 2 on the iTunes connect screen yesterday - it completely vanished from my mind and I did not see it or think about it again until I saw this thread :D

Post pics at your own peril. SOMEONE will see light bleed on your unit, and you'll get pulled back into OCD land.

I have a appointment scheduled today... To try and replace for light bleed does anyone know if the Stores are stocked with replacements?

I am so fed up with the so called REPLACEMENTS
I have been driving back and forth just so the Genius is mixing up my serial number not once but twice. After been driving I called Care and well with mixed up serial numbers that was a waste off time. I called a few times until I finally I got someone who at least understood what was going on. Then send it in and I was without for 10 days. Yeah you guessed since the serial numbers did not match! Then no tracking number for the replcement nothing. They just send it when ever (of course we were on spring break and di not know it was coming)
I heard nothing ever again and the iPad2 I have now is the worst of them ( #3)
So now what ? Wait for Apple to make an announcment ? Call the Apple care yet again? or drive to the store ?
