Apple today once again lowered iPad 2 shipping estimates in many of its online stores around the world, now citing 1-2 weeks for new orders in those markets. Shipping estimates had peaked at 4-5 weeks, but a series of drops brought the window down to 2-3 weeks early this month, and the new decrease suggests that Apple is indeed getting its arms around the supply-demand balance for the popular tablet device.

yay~

I have just come back from picking up my ipad from John Lewis. Here are the pics (i have also included my first ipad 2 i bought from pcworld).

much better! :)

I agree, its a keeper. I'll give it a couple months then if i manage to have some spare time i'll pop in and see a genius.

Hey guys, my apple store online order iPad2 was delivered two weeks ago and I have pretty bad backlight bleeding. I generally only operate my iPad 2 at 20% to 35% brightness and last night while watching a movie within that brightness, I could see the backlight bleed in my living room (which is not brightly lit). Most of the folks here are saying they notice it at 100%, if I set mine to 100%, it is just hideous.

I decided to call the Apple Support number today and they were willing to swap it out for me or have me go to my local Apple store, but the rep said that I was the first person who had called her about this issue. I asked to talk to her manager explaining my concerns about getting another defective replacement. She talked to her manager and said that none of them had heard of this issue. Pretty lame. I told her about how it was all over the forums and she basically said that if I got another bad one, I could just call back and have them send another replacement. I told her I would hold off for now.

Any tips on getting someone who knows what's going on?

Tbh i think they have been ordered to pretend every person that calls in, "is the first person with the problem" its BS. I am assuming your light leakage is more worse then the pictures i posted up. If i were you and its what i am planning to do is to wait a few months and then book an appointment with the genius bar and get one hopefully without any bleeding issues.

It is similar...I wouldn't care so much about this issue because I almost always have my brightness at like 20% because otherwise the white background of webpages, etc. hurts my eyes. The issue comes in when I'm watching movies which require me to turn the brightness to 30% or 35% and because movies are widescreen, I notice this gray shading like in your pictures. If I set my screen to 100% brightness, I wonder how it made it past quality control.

You were offered the best solution; having someone "in the know" won't change that. You are being offered a replacement from the only iPads being made. If there is a random chance that those iPad has this issue how would they be able to guarantee a problem free one?

PS. Of course they will say you are the first to report the issue.

girlfriend is returning her 4th replacement today:
"tired of this, when can I use my iPad? Only during the daytime...if there isn't a glare on the screen. When can I use my iPad at night? never, unless I want to stare at yellow tints on BLACK and white spotlights along every edge." her words.

this screen bleed issue has been going on for the past month. For 500+ dollars this isn't worth the trouble. Voting with the wallet is better than voting with an invisible "ticket" that they have in their system. pffff, punks.

Lol...the letter 'F' simply means that the iPad was manufactured in the first half of the year. Good luck with your magic fix. Maybe Apple will share the pixie dust with Sony, Samsung, and LG. At least the Apple Manager got you out of the store to extend his lunch hour by 15 minutes, hoping that within the month timeline, you will have either forgotten about it or just stop bothering.

ohhhh, so changing the debate now that your basis for this backlight bleed being confirmed "not normal", "not acceptable" by Apple contrary to your LCD brilliance.

Manager was actually awesome and was fine exchanging every day if that is what I wanted.

Feel free to post some proof regarding your latest theory on what "F" designates.

Sounds like your memory doesn't exist beyond a post or two. What I said was that the back light bleed issue in edge lit displays in this price point is inherent to current LCD technology and assembly. You've certainly kept track of most of my postings, so you of all people should know what I've said over and over again. And it goes without saying that my response was completely laden with sarcasm. Is that a trait that you can't pick up either? Maybe that's why you are easily swayed by the Apple store managers.

LOL..go ahead and exchange everyday if they allow it. Surely you know the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Besides, you are just wasting your own time, which if you are spending that much of it wandering around an Apple store, is not that valuable anyway.

Oh yeah, per your request, here's your proof in terms of Apple's new serial number format. This is a 2010 Macbook article, but doesn't need a genius to decipher application to many new Apple devices. Specifically it states that "Next year, (meaning 2011) we will see the use of codes F and G, and so on." Feel free to provide your own 'proof' stating otherwise. I won't hold my breath.

Makes sense.. as of recent, almost every iPad produced in the first-half of 2011 likey has the issue whether the person with it wants to admit it or not.:)

Apple taking hints from the gaming community, send out an unfinished product to beat the market and then fix the bugs as time goes by, or in apples case, release a new product :D

Do you think it is safe to get a replacement from AppleCare yet?

The senior advisor has been emailing me with updates and they are hinting that it is safe to replace

I will be posting the emails

Hi -------,
I have not heard of anyone having the issue with the replacements as stated in our conversation yesterday. The solution to fix this issue is to have the Ipad replaced. I will let you know as soon as repair times have come down to the normal time frame if you would like. *Hope you are having a great day!

Look mines visible in a room that isnt even dark... its almost 11 am here... so its nicely lit in here and I can still see it... it actually seems to be getting worse!

Get that sucka in a brighter room. Problem solved. ;)

To be honest I think some of the spots on my iPad are getting better but others are getting worse.
