I was seriously considering swapping out my brown box, very slight light bleed, but dead pixel iPad out for another replacement. However after seeing so many of you getting one with bad light bleed, I'm inclined to just hold onto this dead pixel one until the light bleeds get less common.

A single dead pixel can be annoying, but not as annoying as light bleed issues when watching movies.

Dead pixels? No no no.

They dig into your mind like a little chisel. And you know this. You don't see an ipad anymore. When you power on you see a 10inch dead pixel.
:D:D:D

Is the one on the left an original iPad?

Also i think the yellowish screens are normal

Both are ipad 2s. The one on the left had terrible light bleed so the right one is my replacement.

In all honesty, the whites are, well, not white when compared with the first one...I really don't know what to do.

I looked at your images. I know the camera might not be showing it exactly but I'd keep it. The no light bleed pic looks great. For the longest time I liked all my displays cooler and now I can't stand it. Give a warm toned screen and I'm happy and it's more natural.

KEEP IT!!!!!!!:)

Get into Acceptance that it is, what it is (unfortunately).

Sadly, the only right choice for your peace of mind, is to realize that Apple doesn't care, it's not "defective, according to them" and that's the best it's going to be.

I had four of the original iPads (have a big family) and overall they were much better than the four iPad 2's I have presently.

I've exchanged two of these due to massive light leakage. The replacements have only a tiny trace on one corner, so that in and of itself PROVES that quality is not Apple's forte at the present time.

If the replacements were only slightly better that would be one thing, but for them to be dramatically different with next to no light leakage, that tells you that Apple has a very "wide" specification of what they consider "acceptable".

Finally, this also proves what Jobs has said for years, and especially when bashing Netbooks. "Apple can't and won't make anything under $1,000." Well now they are and we are seeing how marginal it is.

Brown-box update:
I went in today to have them order me a replacement per the advice of the Apple Manager and they just happened to have my model in stock. I was early for my appointment but they got me in almost right as I arrived.

Long story short (I'm horrible at short story..) is I have an iPad 2 that I am 100% satisfied with and am 100% satisfied with Apple support and service. I was told before it even came out of the box that if I wasn't happy today/tomorrow/whenever based on it having the issues discussed here I could do another swap. I took my new iPad home and tested it for light-leak, dead-pixels, screen separation, dust under screen, etc and it passed with flying colors. There is no sign of separation and it looks completely consistent around the bezel/screen. I did the color test for pixel issues and no dead pixels. I did the hide-in-the-bathroom test and no light-leak issues.

Now, I should say this... depending on the angle you hold your iPad when in the dark you will ALWAYS see some light around the edges.. the screen has to be lit somehow. The light-leak issue (to me) was when there were huge splotches of light randomly oozing from the edges. My screen now has no splotches. If I wanted to be 1000% OCD I could FIND something wrong based on the light looking different based on the angle you hold it but IMO this is over the top. You either have light splotches or you don't. This screen is A OK by me and I am a bit OCD.. a bit. when it comes to quality.

Note on the screen tint. I thought I preferred a cooler temp screen and was worried about getting one too warm.. well this one isn't hot.. isn't cold.. it's JUUUUUUST right.

FINALLY.

Good news. Apple has my iPad and I just got an email that it's pending replacement. Hopefully it ships today and I can finally say finally. :)

Was that a new-in-box or brown-box replacement?

A few people were asking me if my screen issues bother me during normal use, the answer is yes, I noticed these screen issues first on my own accord and then searched the Internet, and as it turns out I'm not the only one.

I called Apple today, very friendly people on the phone, I have a new unit coming, I will let you guys know.

Just got mine today, and I'm kind of disappointed. :( But I'm thinking about just keeping it, cause I'm afraid I'm just going to get something worse if I exchange it.

Are you serious? I've been waiting three weeks for my replacement.

Hi all had to sign up to post my problems.

I think someone is trying to tell me something I got a new iPad2 last week from the online store from an order i placed about a month ago, but it had 3 dead pixels and a lot of yellow bleeding around the edge of the screen, fine i thought and rang Apple UK and had it sent back.

Replacement comes a few days ago and this one has 2 dead pixels which tbh aren't as bad as the older one which had a massive white one or bunch of white ones. But the yellow screen bleeding on this is awful and its off back. So rang them up again today and its off back and a new one has been ordered by them.

So next week will be iPad2 number 3 and if that's worse or not up to par its off back and i will be getting a full refund, not happy by all this messing i love the iPad but these issues shouldn't be happening at all in this day and age!

They are crediting me £40 though for all the 'inconvenience', not like that matters i just want an iPad2 without all this crap.

I cant go to an Apple store as the nearest one is Manchester UK which is bloody miles away and tbh they wont have any to replace it with.

My iPad1 had none of these issues.

It's frustrating. I have iPad number six being delivered this morning.

Bloody hell!!!

Well they have one more chance before i go for a full refund and leave it for a few months till most of the normal stores like PC World etc have plenty in stock and i can have a look at it in store!!

I expected more from Apple tbh this is shocking.

Well I don't have high hopes for this unit but you never know. I'm an early adopter for the most part but I have to say when iPad 3 comes out I'm waiting and reading the forums before I buy.

Just went on Apple.com to place order for new iPad 32 GB black.

This is my 3rd order.

Will ship in 1-2 weeks. Will let you guys know how that goes...

Ships: May 20
Delivers: May 26
