Apparently, you are very young. Here, let me explain it in terms you might understand. She was the Beyonce of her day, times 10. And she still sells out stadiums, although she claimed retirement a long time ago. She has sold millions of records and starred in and also directed several excellent movies.

Thank you so much for that history lesson on Barb! I feel more educated and enlightened now. Could you provide me any other life lessons on Barbie's biography? I can't wait to share this information with my friends. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain.

Since you asked, now twice, who she is I'll be glad to post links for you (hey, if you can be snarky about her, I can be snarky in my response, huh?).

http://www.biography.com/people/barbra-streisand-9497402

"Barbra Streisand is the highest-selling female recording artist of all time, and has won awards and acclaim in every medium that she's worked in." Named the best-selling female singer of the 20th century. She has sold more than 68 million records, with 47 Gold, 28 Platinum and 13 Multi-Platinum.

"After a 27-year absence, Barbra Streisand returned to the concert stage in 1994. Her performance resulted in the Top 10, million-selling album, The Concert. The tour itself generated over $10 million for charities, including AIDS organizations, women and children in jeopardy, Jewish/Arab relations, and agencies working to improve relations between African-Americans and Jews. Streisand's philanthropy and activism also extends to her Barwood Film's productions, such as The Long Island Incident, which inspired a national debate on gun control."

"Second single largest grossing American concert engagement, with $16.6 million, seven performances, Madison Square Garden, 1994 (#1: $19 million, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, 15 performances, Continental Airlines Arena, 1999)."

"Only artist to receive Oscar, Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, CableACE and Peabody awards."

Barbra doesn't want to know, how her name is pronounced with the german voice of Siri. :D

Hmmh. Streusand is what you put on icy roads to make them less slippery, if you want to avoid using salt.
[doublepost=1471902039][/doublepost]
And Kenya West would demand that Tim Cook change the Sirian pronunciation of his name to "God"
And Tim Cook would answer: "If that was the correct pronunciation, you wouldn't have needed to call me".

Barbara who? I must be behind on the times. Is she even notable? She must be if she is makes a Macrumors front page story.
You may be a little young to be familiar with her, but she way pretty popular in the late 1960's and 1970's. The 1968 movie Funny Girl was I think her first big movie hit and she had a pretty successful singing career also.

How about The Way we Were with Robert Redford in 1975? Ever hear the title song by her?

Nothing? Hmm... better check with your parents maybe? :p:D

Kidding aside... yeah she was a pretty big thing in her day. :)

It wasn't Barbra Streisand that complained; it would have have been her agent / public relations team that did. What does it achieve for someone that is fabulously rich? Publicity and more money. Just ignore it - on a personal level I think she's $#it anyway.

Excuse me? How does she have the ability to speak to him on the phone and we can only send an email him to a mailbox he never reads.

Seriously? To borrow from a post put up for a slightly different purpose, read the one I've appended below. Then go out and jump through at least a couple hoops and just ask for Apple's CEO's number again. Get a Grammy first, why not.

And btw he does read mail from that mailbox. Maybe not all the way through some of them. Maybe adjust attitude before hitting send.

What? I had no idea she was this famous. And here I thought she was famous for her small role in 'Meet the Fockers.' What a small world we live in.

I just finished reading all the links you provided and her autobiography. Wow! What an incredible Lady. Maybe she should run for President. Truly inspiring. Thank you so much for educating me on Barb.

73 posts in... obviously there's interest and people care enough comment. Whether it's to complain, defend, or joke about the topic; there's interest. Imagine what MR would be if they only posted what you want to see? Or only stuff that I want to see? There's something here for everyone. We both have a choice to ignore the articles we don't like.

I have no interest in Barbarsa Streizand either. I did have a curiosity about the replies in the thread. Thus far, they haven't disappointed.
good point. Thanks for setting my bad attitude straight.

MR appears to be populated with the most unhappy, miserable, entitled whiners from everywhere on the planet
This lot will complain about any and everything
I have started coming here less and less and I read comments a lot less than I used to. There was a time when the conversations were interesting regardless of the subject. Now...there's mostly hate, jealousy, complaints of all kinds that many times don't even make sense.

I still appreciate what MR does in regards to reporting tech news and rumors but a lot of members here can go pound sand for all I care. It's kind of sad really. Not many civilized places left on the internet where you could have a decent conversation :(

Babs is an idiot.

I wouldn't say "pretty popular". I would say she was more like the #1 female pop star in the world for about 20 years.

Only in some circles. Barbara Streisand's music was liked by the same sort of people who liked Wayne Newton and Celine Dion.

Walter Matthau on Barbra Streisand:
"I have more talent in my smallest fart than you have in your entire body."

In a South Park episode, her character tortures Stan, Kenny, Kyle, and Cartman with her singing voice.

We can also thank her for inspiring the term "Streisand Effect".

Why, yes! In South Park's Mecha-Streisand episode, this is the song her character sang to torture the boys into giving up information.

I'm no fan of Streisand, not in the least, but those "some circles" have indeed made her one of the biggest living pop stars, bigger by far than either of the other two you mention, and for much longer. In fact it is her legions of adoring fans who've been hanging on her every note for decades who've enabled her rather notorious pop star personality.

[QUOTE="laurim, post:
Um, it took a lot of work to become one of the most famous singers in the world. More work than you will ever accomplish.

That makes you look very sad and shallow, and you certainly didn't understand my post. Anyway I am not a fan of Babs Streysund.

Actually, she has accomplished a lot considering she has an awful case of stage fright and has to force herself to perform in public. Most people who have diva behavior are actually very insecure people who think any tiny thing that goes wrong will make them look bad. Hence, she probably gives every technician on her shows an incredibly hard time and then she gets the rep for being a diva. I hear Celine Dion is also very difficult to please. Hmmm, sounds familiar. Bet Streisand and Jobs had a lot in common and how she first got acquainted with Apple.

I don't know about that. She's lived in a pop star bubble since she was little more than a teenager and now she spends no small amount of effort tending to the bubble, as this story shows. But then I've always found her singing and especially her acting to be repellant so who am I to say.

A lot of the snarky comments in this thread remind me of the comments that were made about U2 when that band was working with Apple a couple of years ago. Just because a performer is no longer in his or her prime doesn't lessen what they achieved at the height of their fame.

Streisand isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's fine. But does it make us better people to say how much we hate her (or U2, or the Beatles, or Dr. Dre, etc.)?

So people aren't allowed to dislike things and express their opinions? Well, good luck with that philosophy.
