Anyone with phantom idle usage and that hasn't done so already. Do a reset all settings and setup as new.

Worked for me anyway.

This doesn't work for me! I've had it with this seriously.

I plugged out my phone at 5am (100%) and went back to sleep. Woke up at 830am and checked it again.

2hrs 40mins of usage and 3hrs 30mins of standby. (90%)

WTF!

I might be reading it wrong but how is your usage and standby time more than the time it's been unplugged? I wish I had that usage and standby time and be only at 90%.

They're not. Standby is the time I've had it off the charger since my last full charge. 3h30m is accurate.

But usage is atrocious. How could I have clocked 2h40m of usage in my sleep?

This is what you should get. Didn't use the phone much since waking up this morning. Text or two so pretty much on idle. About 1% per hour. Although the Batt meter is not that accurate.

I think my battery is getting pretty awesome! Only under locations- iAids, Time Zone, Diagnostic and usage are turned off. Ping- off, everything else- on, brightness ~65% with auto brightness on.

This is with i-net surfing, listening to music, playing some light games like fruit ninja and battleship.

Bad bad bad battery life for me :( 20% drainage through the night when its on standby!!
Pretty sure the reason fot that is the fact that you cant turn off 3G manually. I have very poor 3G coverage (1bar) so the 4s is constantly switching between 3G and edge. So frustrating!!!!!!!
Apple needs to do something about this!!!

I see your screenshot, and I raise you mine.

Also, my phone feels like it's about 90 degrees right now. Pretty awesome!

Restart your phone. If your usage and standby times are still increasing together do a restore from new. You have an app that is hanging (kind of like when an app gets stuck on your computer and the fans start running full speed)

More airplane mode w/ only wifi times. Back to the US in 4 more days:

I've restored multiple backups and tried resetting all settings on the phone. Issue is still there. I'm bringing it to an Apple store this evening.

I wished my phone would behave like yours.

Problem is, I can't resolve this usage and standby increasing simultaneously bug. Tried hard reset, restore as new, reset all settings, even exchanged the set. Still got the same problem.

Could it have something to do with the SIM card?

Seem to have improved vastly from when it was brand new.

You can turn off 3G Data this way. Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data/OFF.

That will give you voice and SMS (turn off imessage too). You will not have Edge data either. But if you then turn WiFI on in your home, you will have data there.

You can then test whether your weak data signal is the issue. Of course, you will still have 3G voice. If that is a concern turn that off too. Of course all of this is just to test what is draining your battery, not a way to operate.

Have you tried resetting all settings (from the phone...Settings/General/Reset/Reset all settings)...AND only then and after the above, discharge phone until it shuts itself off...and then charge overnight.

That prevent the bug battery calibration from carrying over from previous restores. Restoring as new from a backup, will not remove this bug.

So... question.. Does turning Siri COMPLETELY off [not just raise to speak] save anymore battery life than it does just leaving it on?

Trying NOT to cripple my device by turning location, wifi, siri, AND everything off..

But will it help? if so. how much.

I wonder does turning Siri off in location services help your battery life?
Doing this will result in Siri not looking up your location when you use her. Theoretically this could make using Siri slightly more energy efficient but I doubt you'd even notice the difference.

agreed. Why even bother posting your screenshot? It's like the guy who posted a screenshot with the words "this iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge". Why bother? Yes, there are ways to make your battery last forever... plugging it in between full charges is one so is airplane mode. That's like me saying "I just got 6 days out of my iPhone. I left it off for 5.5 days and just turned it on!! I still have 93%!!!"

Even if you make it clear what tactics you are using, it still doesn't add anything to the discussion for people who are legitimately experiencing battery problems.

I had the same phantom usage time increases with my 4s running 5.0, 5.0.1, and 5.1b. I turned off all Notifications and it seemed to have solved the phantom usage problem for one day, but the problem came back.

So I reset all contents and settings, didn't install any applications other than the ones come with the phone, turned off all notifications, locations services & diagnostics send, and turned off Siri. Basically, there shouldn't have been anything running. Yet, I saw usage time increasing steadily - I checked every hour. Out of desperation, I took the phone to Genius, and they gave me a replacement 4s. No more phantom usage time increases and my battery usage is "normal". The guy at the Genius bar told me that my water damage sensor was triggered, but other than that he couldn't find any anomaly with the battery. I believe there are bad iPhone 4Ss out there. Some to try if you have phantom usage time issue and there wasn't any other solution (reset or what not).

Well, figured I'd follow up here regarding my phone issues after restoring a backup. I went to the apple store yesterday and they confirmed that the backup I restored "must have been corrupt" and there was nothing I could do to save the data and would have to start fresh.

By the way, I used iCloud backup, so for those of you who do as well, be weary, and maybe every once and awhile to a backup to your PC just to have something else to fall back on if your iCloud backup is corrupt like mine was.

I confirmed that a fresh restart did intact fix the 100% processor usage all the time error. Little hint for those of you who are experiencing the same issue but don't want to lose all your data:

Grab "IExplorer" (for Mac or PC), plug your phone in, and it will let you get down into all the app files. Back up any game/app data onto a folder somewhere else. When you reload your phone and reinstall the apps, copy the backed up files over to the phone and you will get all your save files back.

I was able to recover everything but my "Cut The Rope" save files, which I can live with.
