Fixed!

So I just fixed my battery problem.. I have Sprint and the 3G is horrible on it!!! I mean HORIIBLE!!

Today I turned off Cellular Data just to see what happens, and I was at work all day today and I have no 3G signal their, so why keep cellular data on right.

I started at 100% at 2pm and now its 10:30 pm and Im at 87% with 55 minutes of usage and 8hours and 42 minutes of standby.

I just turned wifi on right now as well.

I think my drain has been coming from the crappy 3G i get with sprint, and the phone is constantly looking for 3G.

Im just gonna keep cellular data off when im at home, and keep wifi on.

I used to get about 4 hours of usage and like 20 hours of standby with 3G always on.

Just so you will know, the biggest drain on battery(IMHO) isn't screen or anything else. It's easily the radio. Without question. I used my 4S as a touch for about a week when switching to a razr(worse batt life). I left it in airplane mode and left wifi on. It was nothing to see 8.5+ hours of usage and 2-3 days on standby without cell signal, and I have Verizon. Whose 3G is several times better in both availability and speed and it doesn't matter. If u leave cellular data off of course it will be good. If u are on sprint, maybe u didn't have the ip4. It had sensational batt life. I started a thread with a small tip that has drastically helped my battery life but no one seemed to listen. So, mileage will vary, and it will be far better with cellular data off.

That's completely expected when apple increased carrier antennas from 2 to 3, a 50% increase. That means a 50% increase in battery DRAIN too.

(1 antenna is reserved for Wifi+GPS+Bluetooth)

Was having really bad battery issues, wasn't even lasting a day. Calibrated it 3 times now and this is from my first full usage after, big big improvement in my opinion

I do a lot of local traveling. The signal quality seems to effect this phone (4s) much more then other smartphones I've owned. With good signal it seems to do better then most.

I keep everything on except Bluetooth. I'll lose an average of 2-4% battery while I sleep at my house connected to wifi.

I fell asleep at a friends after a party and had very poor 3G signal. I lost about 27-30% battery life over the same amount of sleep time.

I didn't think my battery was too bad until I fully charged it before I went to bed, unplugged it, and didn't touch it. The only thing I had on was an alarm to wake me up.

Lost 16% over night. Seems suspicious to me.

Check your usage.

I posted earlier in this thread a page or two back. I just got my 4S last week and so far I've drained the phone til dead 3 times now. Each time, I let the power fully charge back up to 100%, and it remained plug in for about 1-2 hours after hitting 100%.

Results from my usage today are below. Today consisted of mostly text messages, about 2-3 hours of Pandora over Wi-Fi, and some light web browsing. No games today.

The same thing happens to me.

Its not the battery drain but the usage on standby, with nothing running.

I had a huge issue with my iPhone 4s discharging 50% overnight (phantom usage issue) with usage about that too. So this is the approach I suggest.
1. Restore you phone as a new phone and do not install any apps or music or email or anything at all. I copied my contacts onto the phone via a vcf file I saved previously. Leave iCloud disabled and turn off wifi sync and other services not required. See how it works and what battery life you get. You should get 8-10 hours usage and if you leave it on standby it should give you max 10% drain over 8 hours. If it doesn't take it back to apple because it is knackered.
2. Add Email and test again.
3. Add Apps and test again.
4. Add Music and test again.
5. Add what ever you need.

Step 1 is what apple will tell you to do any way. I have 3 email accounts with push and fetch enabled, I have notification on with location services, basically everything you need. I don't have icloud back up, but do use other icloud feature (not the photo stream). In the end my problem was down to wifi sync, disabling that means i can easily get about 5+ hours real usage and 1.5 days standby which I am very happy with.

Be systematic, restore to 5.0.1, Telluride 9A406, iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw (see http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Firmware)

I've said this since my first experience with it. I was at a company function in the back room of a lunch place and my signal went down by like 12% in a matter of an hour or something. I realized it about halfway through and went into airplane mode. No prob.

At work my signal is lower than at home and my battery drains much quicker.

I can't be certain but when your using email as fetch also go into each email account and set it to fetch. I had mine set to push but global push set to off. I'm not 100% sure but I think my battery is better.

Battery seems to be acting weird. Charged to 100% today, unplugged, and after 30 mins standby and about 8 minutes of use, the phone was at 96%!

I did a soft reset and when the phone turned back on it was at 99% (weird?). I'm charging it up again now to see if it holds better.

I dunno..

Is not doing anything with it for 3 hours, and seeing a 2% battery drain normal? I have 3G + Wifi on.

there's definitely something wrong either with your iphone or with your config

What config? I've tried a few tips to prolong battery life on the Internet but they haven't worked.

Think I may be better taking it back? had the phone since October and battery life has always been awful

config as in location services... are they on or off? If you go into location services, how many of them have little grey navigation-like arrows next to them? How many email accounts do you have syncing? How often? Did you turn off diagnostic data? What's your brightness set at? How long till your phone atuo-locks? Do you have iCloud on? etc, etc, etc.

Based on your replies to the "configuration" question, I say you should NOT take your phone back as it is operating normally. You SHOULD do some research on the internet in order to optimize your battery life. Here's a couple of links to get you started:

I have done some research and none of it has worked, in fact my battery life has gotten worse.

Diagnostic data is off, location services only on a couple of apps, bluetooth off, wi-fi off

Have 4 email accounts, got auto brightness on, icloud is off for about half of the options.

Even if I had all of this stuff on, surely i should be getting more than 4 hours usage and 19 hours standby? Its shocking.

How's your signal on average? Do you go many places where you don't get great reception?

Signal strength is a large battery killer as well.
