looks like my battery is the same or close to as good as my 4.

Is anybody with 5.0.1 seeing a change in battery life? Or are we doomed to go charge the phone after 5 hours of average use?

Mine is crap

4 hours, 50 mins
stand by-21 hours ,41mins

@ 10% battery

wouldn't say thats crap...think if you run it all the way down you are looking at

5 hours usage
1 day in standby

which isn't bad.

you run it all the way down yet?

So Apple's latest phone and software have brought more features that inherently use more battery power, and turning some of them off saves some battery life?

...Breaking news.

Please people. There is no Batterygate. Stop.

I'm not saying there are no battery issues. Apple themselves said there are, but they're unrelated to the new features and to go as far as calling it a gate is extreme.

Yes there definitely is a severe batterygate issue. I have all these features turned on on my iphone 4 with 5.0 and i still get great batterylife whereas my 4s has about 25-35% less battery life even with all features turned off.

We are doomed until apple releases a hardware fix which wont come until the release of the iphone 5. The batterygate issue has been proven to be hardware related not software.

I'm really happy to see all the reports in the mainstream media about this pesky problem. That's the kind of exposure it will take to get Apple off it's duff & do something.

I'm on my third 4S after the first two expired completely leaving me with bricks. the genius bar has been great, as they don't even hesitate or cause further delays, they simply replace it without question. However even though I'm only ten minutes from the store, this is getting a bit tiring.

Sadly this third phone is beginning to act like the others did before they died. And they call this the best smartphone ever ? Having had every iPhone to date, if it's "about the experience" as everyone claims, then Apples going backwards as of the bug ridden iPhones 4 & 4S.

I had just one terrific 3GS that lasted just fine. Why Apples blown it so bad with the Antennagate Special & now Batterygate, is a testimony as to American gullibility. Despite widespread problems, these things are flying off the shelves. All because of some guy named Steve.

Now with a level playing field it will be interesting to see how Apple fares.

Not on my 4S there isn't. >2 days between charges with plenty of use and very little toggled off.

Some people are having a problem, some aren't. What is it the Americans say? "YMMV".

Why does everyone add "gate" to the end of the problem?

So we are to beleive that you had multiple handset bricked and the current one you have is on the way out? Doubtfull, battery issues and other issues, possible, but not the issues you describe.

Why does everyone add "gate" to the end of the problem?.

The "-gate" meme is based off the original Watergate scandal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scandals_with_"-gate"_suffix

So you don't think having location services on matters when it comes to battery life?

Hasn't for me, I've experienced "normal" battery life compared to my previous iPhone 4. Of course the dual-core cpu uses a bit more juice when doing cpu intensive stuff, but overall usage & standby times in my experience are fine. There's certainly something going on that's affecting the people who are having issues, but it's not universal.

having location services turned on doesn't do anything. its only when an application is actually accessing the gps chip. the time zone setting was constantly accessing the chip and causing battery loss.

if you turn on location services for maps and don't use maps then there is nothing to drain the battery.

Guessing it's the same for weather and find my iPhone?

I've always left location services off as I thought it effected battery life

with weather it may be polling if you have the weather widget in the notification area. if not then weather wouldn't be polling unless it was actually on the screen

find my iphone may poll in intervals. i'm not sure on that one as i don't use it

Yes there definitely is a severe batterygate issue.

No there's not, there are some people who are experiencing issues that can't be replicated all the time.

The batterygate issue has been proven to be hardware related not software.

No it hasn't, if it were hardware then we'd be able to replicate it all the time. My Phone has been caned today and still shows 60% after 8 hours. It showed 40% the previous day with similar usage.

Ok I know after I post this battery will go back to before, I sure hope not.
I switched off Ping, went back to 3G only and the battery life under normal usage has lasted a day and a half and still at 61%.
It looks like I will get a full two days maybe more.
Also off:
Location services
Bluetooth off

I have noticed on so many of these post no one seems to be talking about Siri and when she, (we have a close connection her and I) is used the battery drain is big.
If we are using her a great deal that in my opinion will kill the batter very very quickly. I hope that is the case and it is just not my phone.

NEVER-MIND... went from 41% to 8 over night...

I left my phone at 96% when I went to bed, when I got up it was at 82%.....
Granted that it was about 11 hours but still, that is insane surely?

I had 2 text messages when I looked at it but that was it...

Mine has been good the past couple weeks since I got it. Lasting about 2 days with light use. Then I started playing around in the settings seeing if I could get it better...turning off locations services and turning off time zone. Well after I did that, it started getting worse.

Last night I charged it full before going to bed, taking it off the charger before going to sleep. When I woke up(6 hours later) it was down to 87%. Then in the past hour it started to drop rapidly almost like it was hemorrhaging. It was dropping about 2% every 10 min just in stand by, going from 60% down to 48% in just about an hour.

I then did a settings reset, not a full restore, just resetting the settings back to factory and that has seemed to slow it down. I have dropped just 1% in the past 30 min. Also my standby time increased by 90 minutes.
