Update to my post #2274

Guy's, just an update to the screenshot from my last post in post #2274. I VERY MUCH HAD the battery issues but cycling the battery properly and doing a small number of tweaks has improved it no end. It is a 'D' serial number handset got on launch day. See below for the last screenshot before it shut off (12hrs after the last one):

It was in my previous post.

As an addition, somewhere in the middle of my process of doing 100% charge cycles the stats were:

22hrs 52 mins Standby
7hrs 10 mins Usage
@1% charge left

I have screenshots of charges after this where the times are just increasing until todays screenshot you see above. I no longer have my first screenshots but my phone was initially dead after 12-14hrs of combined usage and standby so you can see it is markedly improved!

I have a

Iphone 4s 64gb Black (sweden telenor)
And today my results are

8% left
Usage: 3h 46 min
Standby: 8h 40 min

And i have done all the "turning" off the location service and such.
Any tips on how to improve the battery time ?

This sucks, i have had the iPhone 4 32gb black, and i never have had this bad battery.

Thanks

Have you been allowing the phone to discharge to the point of shutting itself off then charging it until (and beyond) the point where the phone says it is 100% charged?

Guys, now my battery shows:
3 hours, 54 minutes usage
18 hours, 24 minutes stand by
And I have 20% left of my battery. All of this after used only 3G data internet.
Is this bad?

I don't have good battery life at all. And I just think it's kind of sad that people just say turn off some features. I don't want to turn off features. I find it funny that Apple designed and advertised a battery life that can NOT be attained out of the box.

What's more, three different (2nd and 3rd replacement on AT&T and one on Sprint) iPhone 4S's of mine have died while being PLUGGED in to the Apple charger. Explain that.

Think of it this way... more often than not, when you purchase a new car, the sticker will say 28 city 34 hwy or whatever. But those are absolute ideal conditions. No AC, no drag, perfect weight balance, on cruise, no jackrabbit starts, etc.

Nobody gets those numbers.

Apple is not your friend, they're not your lover, they're just another company trying to sell as many devices as they can. Sure they're going to report absolute ideal numbers.

You're right my Fusion get's better MPG than advertised :) and the Hybrid actually set the world record at 81

But I still think it's dumb the phone dies on the charger

With modifications... and, as this thread demonstrates, if you're willing to modify iOS out of the box, you can achieve numbers better than Apple advertises.

As for your Fusion, I'm happy for you, but I seriously doubt thats across the board, just as some users here get better life out of the box than Apple suggests, the vast majority do not.

Would you mind telling me what is your brightness settings?
I have turned off time zone location and iaids, restrictions on with ping off, wifi and BT- off, what else can I do to extend this battery usage a bit?

quick fixes to fix battery iphone with os 5

1. Turn off bluetooth if you are not using it
2. Under notfications shut off calander and reminders
3. under general and restrictions turn off ping
4.under general and about, go to diagonstic, turn off auto send
5 under location services. then system services turn off time zone

Pretty sure the only mod was who was driving. Not trying to argue it just clearing that up. And I don't want to modify iOS out of the box to get it to work the way it should, but I have to since it can't do much of what I need it to right now. It's a great iPod/camera but that's about it

So a Ford Fusion, right off the lot can get 80+ MPG?

I'm not a Ford guy, but I'll tell you this, if thats possible it will be next car!

But yeah, I agree, I don't want to make changes to the iPhone either, we shouldn't have to. But after adjusting some of the settings I can go 8 hours of use between charges. It sucks to give up some features, but I like the duration of use I am now able to achieve. :apple:

How are you guys getting this! I tried everything, disabled what you guys say but still no. Have drained by battery to the point of death and recharged. This is ridiculous

My settings are simple:

1. location services = off
2. notifications = off ...except for texts/missed calls
3. fixed screen brightness at 35/40%
4. restrictions enabled and nearly everything disabled
5. no push email, fetch only

With those changes, I can get 8.5 hours of use, however, about 5 of those hours are streaming radio, via 3G, so the screen is mostly off.

Still, works well to get me through a day no problem, with texts, calls, emails, surfing here and there.

Thank you for posting something that gives me hope:)

If you could please elaborate on a few things, how many charge cycles have you gone through to see these changes? Are you running 5.0.1 or 5.0?

What kind of usage would you say dominate those ~8 hrs of usage? Would love an overview like: 10% of the time it's surfing on wifi, 10% of the time it's surfing on 3g, 30% ipod etc.

I am running 5.0.1 and my usage is very light (some wifi surfing, mostly ipod or checking settings/viewing pictures etc. And I have yet to get a better result than ~2hrs use and 18hrs standby.

Just did my second full charge cycle (waited untill phone was dead then charge to 100% in one go) and after 37minutes usage (browsing pictures and settings) and 2hrs standby I've lost 10% battery allready.

My first stats for my new 4s

6 hours, 40 minutes usage
1 day, 3 hours standby

Very impressed...no different to my 4

Why does everyone add "gate" to the end of the problem?

i tested both the 4S and 4 side-by side running 5.0 and there is a huge difference in battery life. Stop trying to show that there isnt an issue when there clearly is a major one.
