Disappointed

My battery life is awful. I am sad about that, but what I really was disappointed by was the fact that when I called apple their suggestion was that I take the time to close all the background processes - like a *%(^($ Android phone. The background processes are not supposed to be really running, I thought that was the point. Yet here is a Apple rep telling me to go through and click them all off - every app I have used in the past week is in there. YOu want me to click on 30 apps and turn them off. If that is really the solution and Apple wants me to start babysitting my apps than what is the point of iOS? If that is what I need to do for battery they need to give me an option to turn off multitasking entirely. How is this any better a solution then an Android phone. Its not - its worse because at least they have faster mechanisms for killing background apps. Now there will need to be an app to run to kill background apps - the ultimate failure on Apple's part according to Jobs. Wish he were alive to scream at some people and get this crap figured out.

I hope the tech support lady was just making crap up. I was so baffled by this. And no - I never had to do that for my 2 year old 3GS which at my usage worked for 2 days as opposed to 3/4 of a day now.

Just got my iPhone and will drain it to 0% before I give it its first charge.

I installed this as a new phone rather than restore and since turning it on yesterday at 3:30pm (it is now 7:15am), I still have 66% left with 90 minutes of usage and 14 hours standby.

I think my iPhone 4 was worse. While I do not doubt many are having problems due to certain settings, location services bugs, etc. I dont think this is something that should necessarily shy someone away from the 4S.

Enough with the BS results.

I have an iPhone 4S on 5.0.1b2 and have performed a discharge.

Usage 7 hours 5 minutes
Standby 1 day 2 hours

This is with notifications ON, Siri is used once an hour, location services turned off.

This is 25% improved from 5.0.

Personally I would be happy with this

4 hours usage

12 hours Standby

Had mine 3 days and having to charge it every night - sometimes doesnt make it through the whole of the day

Should i take it back? Will Apple replace it?

Charged mine overnight and took it off at about 8am. Its 1.11pm and it has just died. I am running all apps, icloud, etc etc (as it should). This is not good. Please apple sort it out. Ignoring it isnt an option.

Do people really not do research?!

Apple have announced they are releasing 5.0.1 to address the battery issue

The developers are currently testing the beta release.

Wow, just crazy. I had awful battery life to start, and overnight after about two weeks it just cleared up- got fantastic battery life (better than my iPhone 4 on iOS 4.x.x or 5.0 betas).

As of yesterday morning, the terrible battery life is back. Right now (with no settings changed from when it was great) I've lost 15% in an hour, with literally the only usage being 3 minutes of reading Twitter.

Looks like I'll be installing 5.x.x betas.

My sentiments exactly. I'm convinced people turned off EVERYTHING on their phone except for wifi here and there, no notifications, nada.

The lack of the 3G switch and the fact that while moving the phone will constantly switch between the 2 bands is also a battery drainer. Apple needs to bring back the switch as well with any other fixes that may be incorporating. Why take that away? Its kind of ridiculous!

Isn't it better to charge for 4-5 hrs at once when getting the phone then use till empty and fully charge again?

You should return it. If the battery is crap you should get your money back.

Had my worse stats on my 4s this morning

6 hours usage
19 in standby

alot of that was due to the 3G coverage and being at work where there is no 3G too.

Hope not! I read in several threads letting it empty (I received it near 100%) and then charging. So we'll see.

Basically 24 hours later I am now at 6% with a lot of 3G usage. I have 5 hours usage and 23 hours standby.

Yeah thats not too bad..anytime you have over 5 hours usage and close to 1 day in standby is ok to me.

*ehem*

I won't trust ANYONES usage. Especially the people that miraculously have long battery life. You can easily plug the phone back in charge it for a little bit and the usage will still be counting and not refresh. So.. I can easily make my phone say a bunch of hours of usage to fool people. Just going to have to wait for the update to see if it really will fix the battery drain.

I just purchased the Morphie battery case.... I have two weeks until I can return it to the Apple store [which I more than likely will.. the extra battery portion at the bottom isn't working for me already], but I was planning on using it as an extended battery....

Anyone else done this?

That picture was a joke, but on a normal day, my day starts at 7 AM.

I wake up, unplug my phone, text some people, take a shower, then head to school. I listen to music on the drive to school which is about 15 minutes, and usually when I get to school I'm at 98-99% depending. I use my phone on 3G through the school day 8AM - 3PM and I text probably 50-100 texts per class, (classes are ~50 mins each) and I browse Facebook, Twitter, Pulse News, Tumblr, Craigslist, and the App Store all day. Once I get out of school I'm usually at ~50-60% and then when I get home (again a 15 minute drive with music) I switch to wifi and I usually go to bed at around 10 PM and I have 10-20% left on my battery normally. This is with heavy use on WiFi. A normal day has about 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours of Usage, and 15-20 hours of standby. This is all on 5.0.1 Beta 2.

Cool story bro.

After disabling Siri (which I barely used) I noticed a huge improvement in battery life. I also noticed there was no more "mystery usage" that would occur when I have the phone idle sitting on a table overnight not doing anything. Trouble is- I don't want to have to disable Siri to get these results.

Extremely good improvement.

Can we install the beta if you don't have a dev account ?
