I have the same battery issues. The battery went down completely from 60% in standby over night, therefore my alarm did not work.
Fully charged it, made several restarts, closed all apps, put phone in flightmode and used the monitor app to check the usage.

Wow that is quite telling and hard to believe in basic airplane mode on, your CPU was constantly being used above 50%. What app is that you used?

And to think of the thousands of hypocritical posts placed on this forum over the battery life of Android phones.

Seems as though Apple is struggling with a real problem on it's hands.

1 Hour Usage, 14 Standby, 13%

I have had battery issues since day one. Last night, I used my Kindle app for less than an hour and the phone has been in standby since then (with location services and most other things off). Battery is at 13% with 50 minutes of Kindle use and 14 hours standby (with full 3G signal). The phone has become basically unusable if I can't charge it overnight and make it through the day ON STANDBY, which is theoretically supposed to last for up to 200 hours of battery life.

That's what I want to know too.

Here's my latest report. I think this is pretty alright. The usage was phone calls, navigating and watching youtube videos, so I'm pretty satisfied.

As with my previous screenshots I never got more than:

5:30h use + 1 day 5h stand by
- - - with notifications, 1 push mail, wifi off, no location, no music...

I find this battery issue baffling on a day to day basis. Not because I am paying that much attention to it daily but the fact it doesn't seem to have consistent life from day to day, considering I use it the same amount of time each day due to work.

My general usage on a daily basis going from 100% to 0% is typically as follows:

5 hours 30 minutes - 6 hours USAGE
1 Day - Standby

I am happy with this. Most of the time (while I am not testing the battery for a full day) the phone will get plugged in numerous times while at work.

Today I am noticing the following (took off charger at 100% at 8:15 this morning)

5 hours 25 minutes USAGE
6 hours 45 minutes standby

with 59% of the battery remaining!

This cannot be right. I have not been using the phone more than a total of 1 hour today.

Something has to be running in the background or this phone is not properly calculating usage vs standby.

Just thought I would chime in. Here is how my phone is configured based on a post I made weeks ago.

Here's where I'm standing right now, just for the sake of comparison.

Wifi in and out. A few phone calls, and a bunch of texting. No major gaming or anything. Maybe 10 minutes of angry birds. Just mostly data apps and things of that nature. Average use for me, but what I think may be light use for others.

Wow that's terrible

Seems like a dodgy phone

Yea that seems fine to me too

It must be a dodgy app

I always put my phone in airplane mode overnight too and it only ever uses 1%

My iPhone 4S performs really well, with usage ranging from a few games, read pdf and surf websites on safari, music, emailing, texting, calling, all the normal stuff you'd do on an iPhone... (all settings are normal, location services on) see attached image
but somehow today, it drains like crazy where the battery would simply runs out at 3pm... i unplugged it at around 9 in the morning too. i will see if it happens again as this really gets on my nerve, and i also hope 5.0.1 update really fix this.
PS: the attached image was when it worked well, and it kinda died out at around 10hours+ usage.

I finally found the issue. I disabled notifications for my Calendar, and the CPU usage went to normal. I can reproduce it when I activate the notifications, CPU usage goes all the way up to 100% immediately.
I use the " Activity Monitor touch" from the App Store.

The link to the app:http://itunes.apple.com/ch/app/activity-monitor-touch/id385619152?mt=8

Just got a Sprint iPhone 4S couple of days ago and I'm experiencing the battery problem. Everything is turned on except bluetooth. I have 4 push and 1 fetch (every 15 minutes) email accounts, and also have iCloud on.

First night, I completely drained the battery, recharged to 100%, drained again, recharged again, then unplugged the phone right before going to bed. Next morning, my battery was around 75%. I checked the usage settings and it showed that the standby time was around 7 hours while the actual usage was 2.5 hours. Note that I did not use my phone at all during the night.

I did the same on the second night (drain, recharge, and unplug overnight) and the results were the same more or less. Here is a screenshot:

I figured I would keep testing throughout the day, so I barely used my phone and only checked a couple of emails for about 5-10 minutes total. Rest of the time my phone was on standby.

This was right before the phone shut off. Note that the phone was actually only used for about ~15 minutes total.

I realize there is a iOS update coming, but was wondering if other people were having the same issue regarding the "usage" when not in use. Also, even if that was my actual usage, doesn't it seem a bit low? I have no idea how some people are getting 2-3 day standby time or 10+ hours of usage. I've never had a iPhone before so I'm not too sure what would be considered acceptable battery life.

Any thoughts?

See post 2461.....

That's my stats with nothing but Bluetooth disabled and raise to talk. My mail is set to fetch once per hour

I consider yours acceptable

EDIT: sorry just realised what your saying.... No that isn't acceptable. If your figures were genuine usage and genuine standby then yes it would be

That is not legitimate as its been plugged in since it's last full charge. Compare your screenshot to mine and you will see what I mean

Try restoring your phone and setting up as a new device.

You can try anything you like.

It's called the "placebo effect" in medicine.

Here it's a wild ass guess :)

But no worries, Apple is working on it.

Right so my phone that had battery troubles started working properly after I restored it was a placebo. Gotcha.

Mine ad battery issues and without restoring suddenly started getting 9hrs usage and over 2 days standby..... No placebo there either.....

I can't tell if it's a dodgy phone, a crashed app, various IOS 5 bugs or a combination. My bet is on #2 and #3, but I've restored as a new phone and done most of the other tricks on here and can't really track down what is causing the problem. I'd love to have that app from Apple that supposedly tracks what is using resources and sends to Apple, since there is probably a straightforward software problem.
