Rock has embarrassing acts like Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, and Seether, but I don't hold it against the entire genre.

This is your opinion. Breaking Benjamin is one of my favorite groups and their new album Dark Before Dawn is excellent. I'm glad Ben Burnley put together a new band and they are back in action. We are all free to our opinions on music.

Apple Music is available now and is free for all listeners for the first three months. Following the trial period, the service will cost $9.99 per month for individuals or $14.99 for families of up to 6.

Available for the Mac, or only for an iOS device? I can't figure out how to get Apple Music on the Mac - I have tried everything!!! No download off Apple website and no iTunes update. I am confused.

how come i didn't have to click "start my free trial" to be listening to music?

I believe some parts are free....since it accesses your own music library.

Absolutely. It's very much like a midway point between Radio 1 and 6music on the BBC. Eclectic, fresh, not too experimental.

This was exactly where I was hoping for it to land. All genres covered more or less equally and with some of their finest exponents.... My music taste is historically centred around indie / rock purely because I was a teenager in Manchester in the early 90s but I've always been a music obsessive and will listen to anything I consider "good" regardless of genre. So far Beats1 has not disappointed (although I've probably heard the new Pharrell track enough times to last me the rest of the week now!)

You can't "heart"/"star" songs that are playing on this Beats 1 channel to save them like Spotify? The icon is there but it doesn't do anything. Unless I am missing a short cut or doing it wrong.

Edit:

I tried to search the song though music and it wasn't there so it would make sense that you can't favorite a song that isn't in the store.

Why they do this is beyond me. The song playing now "Melé Ambience" I cannot find either.

Why play music we can't get on Music?

And why the heck isn't there at least an iTunes link?!!!!
Way to kill Music App and iTunes integration.

One Feature they absolutely need is that if I'm listening to Beats1 on my headphones and unplug them that it doesn't pause the station the same way it does for regular music.

So far so - 30 minutes in and the Beats1 is pretty Awesome.

I disagree. I don't want this but I can see why one would this feature. But I do agree that Beats1 is awesome. Loving it. Julie Adenuga is absolutely killing it.

You can do that to songs that are available in Apple Music. Mele is not :( I think that's less Apple than the Artist hasn't allowed it to be available on Apple Music. As for downloads, some just aren't up yet. A lot of this music is new for discovery. But yeah, I'd like to be able to at least bookmark the artists that aren't in Apple Music so I can find them later.

Zane Lowe is putting American DJ's to shame right now.

Many, yes. But I think it depends on the local stations you have. I hate all the NYC stations. But when I lived in LA, Garth Trinidad on KCRW was constantly playing on my radio. I tuned in for all his sets. JRocc is also amazing. Both of them are in the same realm as Zane.

Well I'm totally unimpressed. Don't get why people like Beat1 - The music in the time I'm tuned in till now just sucked. Not a single nice tune, just lots of hiphop and RnB junk 8(

And did Apple really get the ui of the music.app even worse then before? Where is the nice iOS music.app gone 8(

This British lady DJ Julie sucks. But Zane was awesome.

I quite like her!

So this setlist is "all mainstream pop garbage":

Spring City — King
Beck — Dreams
Jamie xx — Gosh
Skepta — Shutdown
ACDC — For Those About to Rock
Hudson Mohawke — Warriors
Pharrell Williams — Freedom
Courtney Barnett — Dead Fox
The Chemical Brothers — Under Neon Lights
Shamir — On the Regular
Gallant — Weight In Gold
Chet Faker — Bend
Royal Blood — Little Monster
The Weeknd — Can’t Feel My Face
Jack Garrat — Weathered
Dr. Dre — Let Me Ride
Slaves — Cheer Up
Stromae — Tous les mêmes
Day Wave — We Try But We Don’t Fit In
Pharrell Williams — Freedom
Eminem — Phenomenal
A$AP Rocky — L$D
Elliot Moss — Slip
Denney — Low Frequency (Clayx & Teebee Mix)
Wolf Alice — You’re a Germ
Låpsley — Falling Short

Like, seriously?

When you say "they just don't", did you mean to say "they just haven't in the first few hours"?

I agree. Massive lack of mainstream pop (good thing IMO). Yeah there is a little bit, but it has to be eclectic.

Censoring???? Nope, won't be listening. If they're doing that with the whole Apple Music app then that's also a big fat NO.

listening now, really enjoying it, Zane was great earlier and this could be my new fav station... great job!

Also liking Beats 1. Didn't quite know what to expect but this is better than many big radio stations where I live. Maybe not objectively so, who knows, but at least going by my taste in music. Feeling fresh and doesn't fall into the horrible trap of overplayed music.

Wondering if anyone is worried about the data rates/sizes for streaming? I drove to work this morning listening to beats1, to my surprise almost 400 megs were used just in that short trip.

I was really hoping to be able to use this while driving, but if there is no "lower quality" option to stream over a cell network, than my data plan will be crushed to little bits using Music.

I have been using Spotify for a while now, and don't have much of an issue with regular commute listening at "Normal" audio quality in regards to my cell data usage.
