I think apple will be using Beats1 as the variety station and down the line making other beats named stations geared towards other specific genres.

That would be pretty cool. I wonder if they see it get popular enough they could even add some type of sport talk station, covering world sports...

For anyone who loves music and not just a certain genre of music - Beats One is brilliant. As a regular BBC Radio 1 listener, this is exactly what it used to sound like a year ago before budget cuts ruined the BBC. Good music, variety, the right mix of mainstream music vs independent/less popular stuff and good balance between DJ speak and music. So far, so good....

But how many songs actually have that sort of language?

Seems a bit short sighted to not listen to Beats 1 at all because they might occasionally play an edite

Did the cuts affect Zane's show much?

What was great about his show earlier was that it was exactly like his R1 show - there was no hint whatsoever of it being geared any differently.

Have been enjoying Annie Mac in his old slot - so really it's a win win for us in the UK who used to listen to Zane as its like having another version of evening R1.

For those who missed the initial broadcast, above is the entire playlist Zane selected to launch Beats 1 from Los Angeles. Now currently playing from New York is the following… (An interesting note is there are in fact sponsors.)

Alabama Shakes — Don’t Wanna Fight
“Apple Music is made possible by American Express.”
David Zowie — House Every Weekend
Florence + The Machine — Ship To Wreck
Grace — You Don’t Own Me
Taylor Swift — Bad Blood
Vic Mensa — U Mad
Alessia Cara — Here
Justin Timberlake — Seńorita

I will never listen to radio with ads.

Who is this female host on Beats 1? Isn't Ebro Darden the New York host? Did he not make it into work on his first day?

I think Ebro starts at 6p EST. But I'm wondering who this is as well. Curious why it didn't go from Julie to Ebro straight away.

Ah yes, let's protect the youngens who know every explicit word and use them from hearing them
You think it's just "youngsters" with over-protective parents that would object to such songs? There are countries where a good percentage of the adult, and, yes, young adult population is of a certain faith, one whose followers would be supremely offended by such words.

No, Apple isn't protecting them from hearing those words any more than its trying to protect youngsters from them. It's simply and wisely protecting itself.

I'm not going to tell anyone to "deal with" the censorship--to the contrary, if it bothers you it bothers you, and if you can't listen to a song that isn't as the musician intended...then you can't. But I do think you're asking too much of Apple to have put out a world wide, free, 24/7 radio station with no compromises. I think Apple's done a pretty good job minimizing those compromises and trying to keep this station as intended: run by DJ's passionate about music and wanting to share all kinds of music globally. But Apple really couldn't get away with not having any compromises on this, not given the fact that it is a business that has to maintain good will with many different types of customers of many different faiths and cultures in countries were this this station is playing.

If that loses it customers who are offended by the censorship...oh, well. Maybe someday there will be a way to give those who want it uncensored the uncensored versions. Till then, sorry you're not going to be listening.

Youtube is free. Get over it.

Pandora is free. Get over it.

YouTube can be censored, that's why they get away with it. Stop being obtuse.

That read sounded suspiciously like Eddie Izzard. But it couldn’t be, could it?

It definitely is.

It's all mainstream pop garbage. There's plenty of modern, new rock from this year that they could play, they just don't.

HAHAHA!!! Royal Blood is mainstream pop?! That statement alone renders your opinion invalid. Just because you don't like it, does not make it mainstream pop. I'd say over half, if not 2 thirds of what's being played from Launch until now has been mainstream, let alone pop. There's been stuff I haven't liked, but others will. The point of this Beats1, mainly, is discovery. If you've bothered to look at the shows coming up, there's going to be a differing range of music coming on Beats1, from old, to new, to rock, to hip hop and more.

Can I stream this on my Apple TV?

Only via AirPlay from an iOS device on 8.4 currently, then by iTunes 12.2 on a Mac (when they get round to releasing that!). With native support when they release the next Apple TV update in the fall.

Well I'm totally unimpressed. Don't get why people like Beat1 - The music in the time I'm tuned in till now just sucked. Not a single nice tune, just lots of hiphop and RnB junk 8(

It's had more than just hip hop and R&B since launch. Each show will have it's own style, so some shows will be R&B and Hip Hop, some will be a bigger range, so you just need to find shows you like.

Censoring???? Nope, won't be listening. If they're doing that with the whole Apple Music app then that's also a big fat NO.

Daft statement. Also, Apple Music, like iTunes, has uncensored versions....

It's not really an ad, just sporadically, "Beats1 is brought to you by Amex", that's it, just a little line, it's like 10 seconds, i've only heard it once in about 2 hours, that I noticed. If you cannot deal with that, then more fool you.

There was a woman in LA for an hour. If you look on the schedule, there's bits that say "Beats1 LA" or "Beats1 London", these will be some of the other DJ's, other than the big 3, as it were.

no thanks ill probably never in my life listen to that station. not my kind of music, never will be.

Beats1 isn't just 1 type of music, there's a wide range, from launch until now, we've had rock, r&B, hip hop, old stuff, new stuff. There's shows from varying types of people coming up. Binning the whole station off because you don't like 1 show is stupid. It's like saying you hate HBO as a whole, because you don't like Game of Thrones...

i would put money on there will never be any goth, industrial, EBM, music on there ever... that stuff is just not big enough in the world.

What kind of music is that? Classical? What it started with, what it's playing now, or the Nina Simone "Feeling Good" cover? So far, I can't find any "type" of music it's playing exclusively--though I suppose if you're into Classical, you'll lkely never hear that.

But, hey, if it's not for you that's fine with me. I just don't understand why you felt the need to say so--you don't have to say "no thanks" to everything offered you

I stopped reading after a sentence or two. Just like I stopped listening after I heard the censorship.

No, because YouTube can be restricted and filtered so only certain parts of it are accessible, the censored songs for example. This is a live radio station, there is only one of them available. They would shut out people from the entirety of Beats 1 if they played uncensored music just as they are doing for censored music. On YouTube, as it's not a live radio station, you can filter what you listen to. Or what your kids listen to. Not saying I agree with that, but Apple has to consider the entire world here, not just my (fictional) children.

And as others have said, there may be laws around the world regarding streaming uncensored music, free, live, to anyone.
