Does it matter? The point is, if people are going to be outraged over someone hearing a swear in a song aired by Apple on an internet radio station, they're going to be equally outraged and what their kid is going to be able to hear anywhere on youtube.

How many times... YouTube is not a live radio station.

I do wonder how much or many of these shows are prerecorded. I imagine the first hour probably was for logistical reasons.
I'm not too convinced - Zane Lowe announced on the show that he was sorry for those expecting to hear the Eminem interview. Perhaps reacting to the criticism unfolding moments before launch?

Same for SiriusXM, yet somehow they can send uncensored music? I guess they are just smarter.

Clearly this is going over you head. There are how many SiriusXM stations that can be tuned into at any one time? A few hundred? How many Beats1 stations are there? 1.

Beats 1 doesn't require an Apple Music subscription so will always be free.

I quite like it so far, but not sure if it will replace listening to my own playlists. Now just need a Beats 4 with a contemporary drama in a rural setting... (That's a BBC Radio joke.)
Ah. I wasn't sure it was always going to be free, but if so...well, there are a lot of clever programers in the world. Maybe there will soon be a way for users to switch on and off a "censored" button and listen as they like.

This is a station that's going world wide, and I'm guess that Apple decided that it is an easier option for people who want uncensored to deal with censored (buying and listening to the uncensored if they like it), then vice versa. People who want censored, can't turn off the words if the uncensored is played on the radio.

As for radio stations that play uncensored...are they free?

I'm okay with the censored music aspect. People of all ages listen and all different sensibilities. Some may be easily offended and I'm okay with not hearing all the cuss words because I can STILL get exposure to new music that I've never heard before and if I'm really interested, I can go buy the album to listen to it in its original uncensored state.

I was under the impression that the free trial was whenever you started it not that it was just free for the world for June, July and August...

And they've said that Beats1 will be free with just an Apple ID. and as others have said about censorship it's a live show so there will likely be just one version.

Beats1 doesn't require the subscription and will ALWAYS be free. The 3 month free trial is for anyone signing up at any time, not just today. 6 months from now you could sign up, and get the 3 months free.

People complaining B1 is censored make me laugh. Don't listen to it then. That's what the streaming is for: listen to your music.

It's still an excellent station. I listen to it because of the DJs, not just the music.
Everything that's free to everyone needs to be censored, less some 10 year old gets onto it in his iPad.

No, because YouTube can be restricted and filtered so only certain parts of it are accessible, the censored songs for example. This is a live radio station, there is only one of them available. They would shut out people from the entirety of Beats 1 if they played uncensored music just as they are doing for censored music. On YouTube, as it's not a live radio station, you can filter what you listen to. Or what your kids listen to. Not saying I agree with that, but Apple has to consider the entire world here, not just my (fictional) children.

And as others have said, there may be laws around the world regarding streaming uncensored music, free, live, to anyone.

Um, and Beats 1 is most definitely NOT playing on every iPhone in the world right now. It's only playing for the people who have chosen to listen to it.

There really is no defense for playing censored music. If it's censored, simply don't play it. There are tons of other songs out there.
SiriusXM is NOT free. In order to get it, you have to have a credit card. Get over it.

That's what i was replying that the other person for. Sounded like they were confused with the three month trial like the radio would change in three months...

Well this creates an interesting question on what kind of delay Apple has on the station. I think terrestrial stations have a 30 second to a few minute delay - not as much as TV. This might be tested on the Eminem interview.

Well the Eminem interview is definitely prerecorded because a picture from it was posted on Twitter last week. The St. Vincent’s Mixtape Delivery Service is also prerecorded as I've already read a couple reviews of the first show.

Anyone know whats the data usage on the station?
What are the specs of the stream?

Censored = huge fail. No one was ever going to subscribe for a lame music radio station anyway. This thing so far is OK at best. The white background is terrible. The UI is awful (why can't I create a playlist from Albums?!). Spotify is in no jeopardy of losing me as a customer for this so far.
Does Sirius play uncensored stuff in the mornings / afternoons?

Yes.

Utterly amazing band - It still staggers me how a 2 piece (they are just bass + drums) can make such a MASSIVE noise...
It has been my number 1 played album on Spotify since it was launched. I can't get enough of it.

Ever seen them live? Just incredible.
