It would be really nice to be able to schedule text messages. Often, I want to share something with my spouse, but I know he is doing something and doesn't want to be disturbed so I want the message to go out later....
That can be done with Shortcuts, I believe.

So, in order to use Beeper Mini, you now need to set up your own Mac server – just for this?

That would be nice feature to have. You can always draft it(type it out) and send later. Not ideal as automatic of course.

Dear reader,

Think about something that you own and value. What would you do if some stranger came along and used it without your permission? Would you feel violated? Would you take steps to keep it from happening again?

iMessage is Apple's property.. use it according to their terms, or leave it alone and design your own messaging platform/service.

Are there Android users who are so desperate for this to jump through all these hoops?

All Android users that I know (and with whom I text in 'green') don't care and never would do this ...

Really would like to see the business plan of Beeper how they plan to make money and how much - can't assume there will be lots of people renting iPhones for them for this. Any business model based on reversed engineering and stupid hacks is not a good one.
I’ve repeatedly heard from iPhone users that would be inclined to switch to Android if it didn’t mean they’d lose iMessage. For those, if their iPhone is still jailbreakable, Beeper would provide a good solution.

Well said.

Funny, i have seen and heard the opposite. People are amazed at the foldable trends but would never switch to an Android because they hear bad things about them or it's not an iPhone.

Of course, Apple could likely do an update to knock off all older iPhones (if they saw where it would not cost anything) therefore rendering jailbroken iPhones useless.

As it appears, beeper has given up on their "cat and mouse game"
yes, possibly a workaround. Tedious though.
I just looked it up. It sounds tedious

Apple does claim to be responsible for Apple users being secure, so why not give Apple users the option to ALWAYS be secure, regardless of who they communicate with.

This is about the Apple users communicating with Android users, not the other way around. At least for me.

Apple cares about Apple users as long as they use Apple hardware, software and services.
Apple's argument have always been that iMessage, being an Apple service is secure, while using SMS is insecure.

Apple doesn't car when Apple users have to communicate with Android or Windows users. nor should they. Apple should never help Apple users becoming better at communicating outside the Apple ecosystem.

Those iPhone users who care about security when it comes to short text messages to Android users, will be able to find a solution.

I think you are being disingenuous... we are all aware it's Apple's property, that's not the issue.

It's the fact that Apple took an opportunity, which is genius on their behalf... converted SMS into some form of messaging platform on their accord. Because in the US... SMS was how we exchanged messages due to how carriers were giving away unlimited SMS packages.

And at this point, iPhone popularity in the US is driven hugely by iMessage (Apple is aware of this) ... and if you were to take iMessage out the equation who's to say what a consumer might choose. With all that being said, it prevents users to switch to a different platform since most will go with the majority.

A company is working on an ingenious plan to allow Apple users to access CarPlay on new GM vehicles that only support GM’s proprietary in-car infotainment system.

GM was hoping to earn billions in subscription fees, but this might not be the lucrative cash grab it was hoping for – if BodgeIT Systems has anything to say about it.

“We’ve been working on it for two years now,” said Malcom Bodge, CEO of BodgeIT. “For a tiny monthly outlay, you can use CarPlay in any GM car.”

It sounds almost too good to be true. But there is a catch?

“Yeah,” said Bodge. We may suffer the occasional outage as GM patches security holes in their servers.”

Anything else?

“Yeah, you’ll also need to buy a CarPlay-equipped Volvo to make it work.”

If that is the case, then they just don't care, period. Apple knows I can't decide what other people decide to buy or not buy. iPhones are communication devices, first and foremost, so secure communication should be their first priority for their users, regardless of what other people choose.

Either they care or they don't, and by what have said, they don't. That's unfortunate and I think they should absolutely focus on that. Apple should offer their users security in all situation, regardless of who/why/what they are communicating with.

At this point, unencrypted communication shouldn't even be an option, for anyone. All encrypted communication, all the time, every device/manufacturer, by default. No exceptions.

I legit wish you guys would tell me where you guys are pulling this source from. I think this is android fanboys attempts to change the narrative.

Because iMessage is not in the top 10 reasons I own and use Apple products.

Either they care or they don't, and by what have said, they don't. That's unfortunate.
If i do, then i use an app that is focused on privacy.

I care about privacy when browsing. It's why I dont use google.

I hope you dont use chrome or any google services if you are preaching about privacy because that would be hypocritical.

At this point, I don’t even understand why any android user would do this.
If it’s about better communication with group chats, I get it. But that’s coming, that’s a fix that’ll be out next year with RCS.
If it’s literally about the color of a bubble, almost every third-party messaging app I know of either has blue bubbled by default, or let you change them to whatever color you want.
If it’s about better media, again, RCS fixes this. RCS (if I’m not mistaken) has a 100 MB file size limit, which is 20X larger than the file size limit for SMS.
If it’s about end to end encryption… You’re not even guaranteed that with these workarounds, hacks, and third-party services.
The nothing phone workaround from a couple weeks ago, was literally storing iMessages in plain text, it’s not secure.

Beeper is using a totally different method, which could possibly be totally secure, but they can’t guarantee that. Apple can’t guarantee that.

So there is literally no benefit, you have to download a third-party app anyway, you’re not being guaranteed end to end encryption, and everything else is solved by RCS.
RCS handles group chats better than SMS, has read receipts and typing indicators, and also has a larger file limit.

With all that being said, it prevents users to switch to a different platform since most will go with the majority.
This is why people should always incorporate an exit strategy into their plans, in case an exit is ever needed. Poor planning on the part of a user is not the fault of a technology platform.

I am in tears laughing. Stop it :D

This seems obsessive at this point. And creepy obsessive. Like why?
If there is a problem to be solved, somebody will try to solve it.

If they manage to get it working reliably (they won’t), then I would legitimately consider at least trying Android for a year — but of course Apple doesn’t want that.

I don't use Chrome, I don't use Google, I don't use Google Maps, and I don't use Gmail. I don't even use YouTube, other than maybe a video or two per month...

I use Firefox, DuckDuckGo, and ProtonMail.

They're idiots. Everything they try Apple will immediately shut down. Just give it up. They're only trying at this point to stir **** up.

Apple knows I can't decide what other people decide to buy or not buy.

But you can decide not to communicate with them or not! That's why so many Android users don't understand.

Stop communicating with iPhone users if you don't want to do it because of weak security of SMS.
