I thought it was a point deduction if the one minute mark is breached.....guess not. The ref DQed him and the Cuban guy went "tiger" on him then proceeded to give the judge a good talking to.

Oh well better luck next olym.....wait they ban the fella for life:eek:

I've read somewhere that the Chinese are contesting the American contest.

Good day at the Olympics then..

Bless

Yay for Matthew Mitcham...he's the Aussie guy who won the 10m platform diving tonight. He's also the first openly gay male on the Australian Olympic team so I love him just that little bit more than usual. He really did an amazing job to beat the Chinese. His last dive was flawless! :)

Being a former Martial Artist (Tae Kwon-Do), I have to say that Angel Matos is a huge disgrace to the art of Tae Kwon-Do. Even before they hand you your white belt and uniform, you (we) are told never to abuse your skill and that is what Matos did. One of the codes that all martial artists follow is self-control and Matos did not show that. If I were to blatantly attack a fellow classmate, Master/Grand-Master or a Ref, I would have been stripped of my rank.

Shame on you Angel Matos:mad:

I can't believe I missed the diving finals!! I watched the quarters and semis. I didn't think anybody could beat the top Chinese diver. Lowest score I saw him get was a low 80s, and everything else was in the 90s. Dang. Unbelievable! The Chinese diver probably is the best diver of the all, as he had lead through every round, and sometimes, from the very first dive of each round. Too bad for him. ;)

@2nyRiggz: The coach was saying they were too strict on that rule if the fighter was hurt, but come on. If a boxer was down for 12 seconds and got back up, the match is clearly over. This is no different, and since he jumped straight up after being disqualified, he was probably acting.

Yeah it was a pretty shocking win. His last dive scored something incredible like 112 which was the highest score ever, which put him about 4 points ahead of the Chinese guy. I'm sure you'll get to see plenty of replays tomorrow!

Was beyond flawless. and he did it to come from behind to win.

It prolly depends on the setting in which you train.

In most commercial schools, they naturally don't want their kids fighting in school and thus have their parents withdraw them and not pay anymore dues.

If this guy had trained as part of a "military" or other "combat" setting, then there probably isn't too much of that philosophy involved. I mean, Cuba is a country that is known for strife so it's not too unlikely that some of their "schools" are a bit different from more "stable" countries. I guess. :p

Second this, I was up till 2 AM watching before calling it quits. The Chinese looked unbeatable! Congratulations to the Aussie!

I was thinking Bolt could have a career in football.Make him run a route to the corner of the end zone and lob him the ball.

Besides, his celebrations aren't too far from Mr. Owens'.

From the article:
This system counts against countries like France which had enjoyed 32 podium finishes but only a handful of wins. Maybe with this in mind, and half an eye on China, media in the US have been publishing a table of total medals won, regardless of colour, and that puts the US top.
The U.S. sports media doing this for France? I don't think so. They are clearly doing it to make the U.S. results look better than they are. Good news = more excitement = more money.

As has been pointed out, the US media have ALWAYS published the rankings based on total medals won. This is true regardless of whether it helps or hurts the USA's rank.

The Los Angeles Times reports that X-rays of the knee, wrist, elbow, iliac crest, and teeth could determine a girl's age within 12 months, even if her development is affected by a high amount of exercise (which delays bone development). Wisdom teeth alone can pinpoint ages to within 18 months.

Instead of searching through documents, the matter could be settled with X-rays, said Dr. Gil Brogdon, a professor emeritus of radiology. "A Caucasian girl is going to fuse her knee centers at about age 15; they're going to fuse their iliac crest at about age 16; and part of the elbow will start fusing around 13 or 14," he said. "That's the way you do it." For the Chinese gymnasts, investigators would have to consult growth tables for Asian girls, Brogdon said.

The article says it is unlikely that the Chinese government would agree to such tests for its women's gymnastics team.

Most interesting. I didn't realize that they could be this accurate.

Definitely better than pursuing a paper trail.

That much is certain.

I am sure that China will pursue any method where they can save face. Either one that shows were an "honest" mistake was made, or one where the gymnasts are of the minimum age.

Why was the women's beach volleyball team from China seeded number one, while the defending Olympic and world champion team was seeded number two?

Have no idea. I know that when the games come to London we are allowed to enter a team in all sports. So even the ones we really suck at will see a GB team, so maybe it's an honour thing for the host country.

EDIT: Would seem it is the case that the host nation gets No. 1 seed as an honour thing.
Seedings for beach volleyball
